Ancient Pily Archetype

Recommended Posts

I just joined this site and after seeing Dogga's Hollow-Eyes i decided to quickly put together an archetype idea i had for a while, while also making it somewhat competitive.

Premise:

I'm a huge fan of cards that have staying power without being too overpowered
on the offence, so i made this simple charmer-esque archetype. I hope you
enjoy the control aspects of it as much as i do.

Theme:

The idea is that a portal works both as an entrance and if it's big enough it
can also be an elevated battleground, which are reflected in the shared
effects between these cards. Also, Portal in greek is "Pyli" but "Pily" looks
smoother so i went with that :D

Lore:

The Dragon Rulers have been emprisoned for a millenia, but their destructive
fury still rages silently. With the rise of psychic technology, they have
managed to project their souls into weak beings that have enough psychic
energy to connect with the beasts, resulting in their will being overriden by
the bloodthirst of the Rulers.

Four major pillars were successfully contructed in the cardinal directions:
Flaemis in the south, Aquans in the north, Erthys in the west, and Aeros in
the east.

Through these passages, the Dragon Rulers shall cross the void into the mortal
realm, and once more they shall rain havoc upon all who oppose their authority.

Playstyle:

The Ancient Pily focus on swarming the field with low level utility monsters
that could lead to bigger bosses while also being able to get back those
bosses if they are banished, they're kind of the middle ground between fodder
and boss monsters. Their ability to stay on the field for 3 turns really helps
drive the idea that they're here to stay.

Cards:

Without further adue here are the cards!

These are actually a very interesting idea! Absolutely love the ideas of the gates, would look forward to see what the smaller like monsters could be.

Some card text may need some fixing, like for recommendation for the Pendulum Effect:

Quote

During your Main Phase, if this card was placed into your Pendulum Zone this turn: You can destrory this card, and if you do, add 1 "Ancient Pily" monster from your deck to you hand.

This is copied text from Performapal Monkeyboard + Luster Pendulum, the Dracoslayer.

The first effect relating to summoning a banished monster is very interesting, and fair for only controlling the one. As long as you keep to these 4 Attributes, I'd easily bet this archetype could be really cool. I would recommend for a small stat change, at most 2000 ATK for each as having nearly 3000 ATK Immune bodies are honestly a lot stronger than you may realize. Also, be weary as the way it's written, your gates also gain that ATK boost, unless that was intended.

My only other critique would be to make it a summoned effect for making it immune, that way its easier to understand how the effect would work for the card. It's gonna be hard to type as we don't have many examples of an effect like this, but a recommended effect for it could be:

Quote

After this card is Normal or Special Summoned, for the rest of this turn, and the next 2 turns, it is unaffected by card effects.

OR

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: For the rest of this turn, and the next 2 turns, this card is unaffected by card effects.

You could say "your opponent's" if you want to keep that feature. But it could be a cool idea to make it affected by its own ATK gain afterwards since it would now be "affected". Just a small idea.

Regardless, love the concept and would love to see where it could go from there.  P.S. thank you for your kind comment :P
