Dogga
I know there is a lot of text upcoming, I am sorry for that, but trust me I bet you'll like them. This archetype has been over 2 weeks in the making of designing and testing. Would love to hear your thoughts and hope you enjoy my idea (all criticism is accepted). At the end of this post will be featuring Deck lists and Replays made on Dueling Book, I implore you to watch or view them for yourself. Premise: I absolutely love Pendulum Monsters, but I also really enjoy the ideas behind Ritual Monsters. This passion is what drove me into creating a Pendulum Ritual Archetype with borrowing styles of Branded Despian Cards, giving birth to a new Ritual Summoning mechanic as well as play style! Featuring all the control and combo aspects of both worlds I believe many players will enjoy. Theme: "Hollow-Eyes" was honestly the after thought regarding this archetype, a few cards were already conceptualized before I decided on generating it into an archetype. After a few hours of brainstorming, I came to the idea of "Hollow-Eyes Dragons". Which features as an almost double edged blade, as sometimes ___-Eyes Dragons can come across as cringe without a proper idea or plan. But I happy to declare that the deck has an somewhat established Lore. To which the theming of this literal ritual deck could be provided for some of the cards. Lore: Quote In a small city north of the world, often freezing and damp, houses a small population practically isolated from the rest of world. The habitants are rather simple individuals, all apart of a tight-nit community looking after one another. Unfortunately, one day, when a brave group of farmers wondered far outside of town in search of land to cultivate they discovered an opening into the Earth on the side of mountain. As curious as they were, they attempted to explore it by trying to make the opening larger through mining the mountain. After some excavation, the farmers find it is a seemingly empty cave filled with glass like stones, too fragile to be of any use and too dirty for any collecting. The farmers leave and returned homes. Days pass and those same farmers started to become ill, having horrible pain and presented with strange markings appearing over they're bodies. Any attempts to help the farmers seemed futile. In search of some answers, others returned to the cave the farmers visited. After a long journey to the cave, as they enter they are meet with a large Devastating looking creature. Before they would react and run away, the exit way was blocked by its tail. Grey scales can be seen, and the Party then discovers it to be a Dragons nesting chambers. The mighty dragon lowers down to inspect the intruders, for where the group are met with large darkened eyes. Void of any color or relative shape, they almost look Hollow. In sheer panic, one member starts charging at the dragon in some sort of Desperation to take on the beast. Just like that, within an instant, they just vanish with only clothes and tools left behind. The others noticing the mighty creature lick its lips in satisfaction and seems to returns to its own domain deeper into the mountain. In a even madder panic, the rest hurry back to the village to relay to the grimacing news of their discovery. Only to find that those ill farmers have practically withered away. They're skin became pale, bodies looking weak with bones and ribs visible. But most harrowing, was their sunken eyes. All the remaining party shutter at the similar sight of Hollow eyes. Many years after this incident, a religion has taken hold of this small city that in which to keep everyone safe from this horrible sickness, is to sacrifice the towns most grieve stricken members to the dragons living in domain at the far mountain. It was discovered there favourite meal, is the meat with that of negative emotions. As those who sustain injuries and symptoms from the ancient rocks subside, but the markings still remain. Hence, the cult of those with Hollow-Eyes were born, sacrificing their worst affects to the Dragons in the mountains. Playstyle: The mechanics and strategy of this Deck is very much a mid-range style archetype. This deck features entirely DARK Monsters as Dragon-type and Psychic-type monsters, most either Level 4 or 8. The most unique thing about this Deck is that all the Ritual Monsters are capable of being Ritual Summoned from the Pendulum Zone by their own effect. This archetype is a combo deck trying to generate a controlling end board by being able to Ritual Summon during your opponents turn, to which some of the Dragon cards (Ritual Monsters) will destroy and negate your opponents cards. The cult apostles, non-Ritual Pendulum Monsters, act as the Tribute fodder for these Ritual Monsters to which they gain added benefits from being Tributed by a card effect (presumably by Ritual Summon card effect), like searching missing pieces or placing themselves into the Pendulum Zone for possible Pendulum Summons. The other interesting aspect of non-Ritual Pendulum monsters is that they could be Tributed from the Pendulum Zone as if they were on the field. This effect was inspired by "Predaplant Triantis" and somewhat by "Predaplant Bufoflicula". Because of this effect, in order to balance the concept, most other Ritual Summoning effects will restrict you from only tributing from your field, and must be the exact levels. The Spell and Trap card support is heavily inspired from the Branded Despia archetype, granting protection for Ritual Summoning as well as being able to perform Ritual Summons during your opponents turn. But do know that this archetype is open to other supporting cards, where some effects have been left generic in order to allow for mixing with other archetypes and strategies. Cards: Thank you for getting this far and I hope you will enjoy! First of all, all of the artwork is none of my own, and was obtain through google image searches. Each card image will be accompanied with the card stats & effects text underneath the image. Some cards may feature a commentary about the card. I hope you enjoy my concept of this Ritual Pendulum based archetype, Hollow-Eyes! Hollow-Eyes Devastation Dragon Level 8 DARK Monster Dragon / Ritual / Pendulum / Effect - 3000 ATK / 2000 DEF Pendulum Effect (Pendulum Scale - 0): During your Main Phase: You can Ritual Summon this card from your Pendulum Zone by Tributing DARK Monsters from your hand or field whose total Levels exactly equal 8. You cannot Special Summon monsters the turn you activate this effect, except DARK Monsters. You can only use this effect of "Hollow-Eyes Devastation Dragon" once per turn. Monster Effect: You can Ritual Summon this card with a "Hollow-Eyes" card. Must either be Ritual Summoned, or Pendulum Summoned. During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can take 1 "Hollow-Eyes" Pendulum Monsters from your Deck and either add it to your hand or place it into your Pendulum Zones, then you can apply the following effect. ● Ritual Summon 1 DARK Ritual Monster from your hand or face-up Extra Deck, by Tributing monsters from your field, whose total Levels exactly equal the Level of the Ritual Monster. You can only use this effect of "Hollow-Eyes Devastation Dragon" once per turn. Quote Featuring as our "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" of the Deck. I want to match the theming of the Deck to which all the Dragons feed on different negative feelings. Particular ones that start with D, honestly was just enjoyed the idea. Here is one of your Boss finishers, with also acts as an extender. Allowing to grab whatever resource you want while also acting as a Quick Ritual Summon. For the Pendulum effect there was the idea of making it so you would Tribute levels equal to Pendulum Scale, however due to some Pendulum Scale manipulators, I believed it to just be safer harder 'coding' it to be only 8. The Restriction regarding only Tributing and only SSing DARK Monsters was to avoid the most strongest Ritual Support of the LIGHT Fairies like Benten and Thousand hands. This way it can stay in theme but still allow for other decks to be apart of it. Hollow-Eyes Baby Dragon Level 1 DARK Monster Dragon / Pendulum / Effect - 500 ATK / 500 DEF Pendulum Effect (Pendulum Scale - 9): You cannot Pendulum Summon monsters, except "Hollow-Eyes" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. While this card is in your Pendulum Zone, if you Ritual Summon a DARK Ritual Monster, you can also use this card in your Pendulum Zone as a monster on the field, as material for its Ritual Summon. Monster Effect: If you Ritual Summon exactly 1 DARK Ritual Monster with a card effect that requires use of monsters, this card can be used as the entire requirement. You can only use the following effects of "Hollow-Eyes Baby Dragon" once per turn, each. During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card, and if you do, take 1 "Hollow-Eyes" Ritual Pendulum Monster from your Deck and either place it into your Pendulum Zone or add it to your Extra Deck face-up. If this card is sent to the GY or added to your Extra Deck face-up because it was Tributed by a card effect: You can place this card into your Pendulum Zone. Quote Here we have our Baby/Chick for the Deck. I decided not to approach with Stone ideas as even though its within the Lore, I couldn't decide out to fit with the already established cards that I had. Baby here is our Combo starter, allowing us to get access to any of our HE Rituals. In honestly, I believe it should be exclusively just take "Hollow-Eyes Devastation Dragon" as to ensure we stay with theming as well as avoiding something busted emerging later on or being discovered that I didn't consider before hand. However I have stayed with this as to allow for some synergy with future support if I decide to make any. For the Pendulum effect, if I hopefully wrote it right, will act as an entire tribute for a Ritual Summon even if in Pendulum Zone. Wanted to clarify that as its intended. Yes, this art is Red-Eyes Baby Dragon, the other Ritual Cards are actually Fan Made art of Custom Red-Eyes cards. I thought the color scheme matched best for my theme that I was hoping to achieve. Hollow-Eyes Demise Dragon Level 4 DARK Monster Dragon / Ritual / Pendulum / Effect - 2000 ATK / 1000 DEF Pendulum Effect (Pendulum Scale - 0): During your Main Phase: You can Ritual Summon this card from your Pendulum Zone by Tributing DARK Monsters from your hand or field whose total Levels exactly equal 4. You cannot Special Summon monsters the turn you activate this effect, except DARK Monsters. You can only use this effect of "Hollow-Eyes Demise Dragon" once per turn. Monster Effect: You can Ritual Summon this card with a "Hollow-Eyes" card. Must either be Ritual Summoned, or Pendulum Summoned. If this card is Ritual Summoned: You can destroy 1 face-up card your opponent controls. You can only use the following effect of “Hollow-Eyes Demise Dragon” once per turn. If this card is sent to the GY or added to your Extra Deck face-up because it was Tributed by a card effect: For the rest of this turn, DARK Ritual Monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle. Hollow-Eyes Despair Dragon Level 4 DARK Monster Dragon / Ritual / Pendulum / Effect - 1000 ATK / 2000 DEF Pendulum Effect (Pendulum Scale - 9): During your Main Phase: You can Ritual Summon this card from your Pendulum Zone by Tributing DARK Monsters from your hand or field whose total Levels exactly equal 4. You cannot Special Summon monsters the turn you activate this effect, except DARK Monsters. You can only use this effect of "Hollow-Eyes Despair Dragon" once per turn. Monster Effect: You can Ritual Summon this card with a "Hollow-Eyes" card. Must either be Ritual Summoned, or Pendulum Summoned. If this card is Ritual Summoned: You can negate the effects of 1 face-up card your opponent controls. You can only use the following effect of “Hollow-Eyes Demise Dragon” once per turn. If this card is sent to the GY or added to your Extra Deck face-up because it was Tributed by a card effect: For the rest of this turn, DARK Ritual Monsters you control gain 500 ATK/DEF. Quote Both of these are very 1 note and not too complicated, which I love. Previous iterations only had the Ritual Summoned Effect (Destroy and Negate a card). However, to allow for some flexible playability for the archetype, I wanted them to match other stronger cards with being Tributed. So much lesser effects were made in order to have the option available, as tributing the Ritual Monsters won't be foreign. Also, yes it was intended that the Ritual Summoned effect is not HOPT as I was hoping that your playstyle resolves around Ritual Summoning during your opponents turn as many times as possible. Cleric with Hollow-Eyes Level 4 DARK Monster Psychic / Pendulum / Effect - 1300 ATK / 1800 DEF Pendulum Effect (Pendulum Scale - 0): You cannot Pendulum Summon monsters, except "Hollow-Eyes" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. While this card is in your Pendulum Zone, if you Ritual Summon a DARK Ritual Monster, you can also use this card in your Pendulum Zone as a monster on the field, as material for its Ritual Summon. Monster Effect: If this card is sent to the GY or added to your Extra Deck face-up because it was Tributed by a card effect: You can place this card into your Pendulum Zone, then you can add 1 "Hollow-Eyes" Spell/Trap card from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Cleric with Hollow-Eyes" once per turn. Advocator with Hollow-Eyes Level 4 DARK Monster Psychic / Pendulum / Effect - 1800 ATK / 1300 DEF Pendulum Effect (Pendulum Scale - 9): You cannot Pendulum Summon monsters, except "Hollow-Eyes" monsters. This effect cannot be negated. While this card is in your Pendulum Zone, if you Ritual Summon a DARK Ritual Monster, you can also use this card in your Pendulum Zone as a monster on the field, as material for its Ritual Summon. Monster Effect: If this card is sent to the GY or added to your Extra Deck face-up because it was Tributed by a card effect: You can place this card into your Pendulum Zone, then you can add 1 "Hollow-Eyes" Ritual Pendulum Monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Advocator with Hollow-Eyes" once per turn. Quote Honestly the strongest cards for this Deck. The recursion of being able to place back into the Pendulum Zone and get even more advantage is something found very effective as simple as it is. I decided to make it so that the effects trigger from being tributed by a card effect instead of being used as a ritual material, as to allow for some in archtype themeing and for other cards to be available and provide synergy. Simple, understandable, but very strong resource enabling. Devotion with Hollow-Eyes Field Spell Card The activation of your cards and effects that include an effect that Ritual Summons a Ritual Monster cannot be negated, also your opponent cannot activate cards or effects when a monster is Ritual Summoned this way. Once per turn, during your opponent's Main Phase, if a monster(s) is Normal or Special Summoned: Immediately after this effect resolves, you can Ritual Summon 1 DARK Ritual Monster from your hand or face-up Extra Deck, by Tributing monsters from your field, whose total Levels exactly equal the Level of the Ritual Monster. Eyes of Hollow Quick-Play Spell Card (This card is always treated as a “Hollow-Eyes” card.) Add 1 “Hollow-Eyes” Pendulum Monster from your Deck to your Extra Deck face-up, then you can apply the following effect. ● Ritual Summon 1 DARK Ritual Monster from your hand or face-up Extra Deck, by Tributing monsters from your field, whose total Levels exactly equal the Level of the Ritual Monster. You can only activate 1 “Eyes of Hollow” once per turn. Sickness with Hollow-Eyes Normal Trap Card Target 1 “Hollow-Eyes” Ritual Monster you control and 1 face-up card your opponent controls; Return them to the hand, then you can apply the following effect. ● Ritual Summon 1 DARK Ritual Monster from your hand or face-up Extra Deck, by Tributing 1 monster on either field, whose total Levels equal or exceed the Level of the Ritual Monster. You can only activate 1 “Sickness with Hollow-Eyes” once per turn. Quote All of these previous cards are based on popular Branded cards, (Branded Lost, Branded in Red, and Branded Banishment) in case you didn't notice. Do note that unlike the Pendulum Effects of the Ritual Monsters, you can only Tribute from your field, but have the added chance of Ritual Summoning a face-up Pendulum Ritual Monster from your Extra Deck (as long as you have the Zone Room for it, since it's a Pendulum Monster, even if it's special summoned a different way (not pendulum summoned) you must summon it to a zone a Link Monster points to). However, if you played correctly, since the Pendulum Effects of the apostle monsters act as monsters on the field, you will have no short of material without sacrificing board space. Leader with Hollow-Eyes Link 1 DARK Monster (BR) Psychic / Link / Effect - 1500 ATK 1 DARK Ritual Monster You can only Link Summon “Leader with Hollow-Eyes” once per turn. If you Ritual Summon exactly 1 DARK Ritual Monster with a card effect that requires use of monsters, this card can be used as the entire requirement. If this Link Summoned card is sent to the GY because it was Tributed by a card effect: You can Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. Hollow-Eyes Desperation Dragon Link 3 DARK Monster (BL, B, BR) Dragon / Link / Effect - 2000 ATK 3 DARK Monsters, including a Ritual and Pendulum Monster If this card is Link Summoned: You can add 1 DARK Ritual Monster or DARK Pendulum Monster from your Deck to your hand, but for the rest of this turn, you cannot activate cards, or the effects of cards, with the same name as that card, unless it’s a “Hollow-Eyes” card. During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): Tribute 1 “Hollow-Eyes” Pendulum card you control or in your Pendulum Zones, and if you do, draw 1 card. You can only use each effect of “Hollow-Eyes Desperation Dragon” once per turn. Quote "Hollow-Eyes Desperation Dragon" went through the most iterations. From it's effect from being like the second effect of "Devotion with Hollow-Eyes", to being able to burn for each time you Ritual Summon, to it's Isolde-like effect now. It did previously have the restriction of not being able to summon the monster along side not being able to activate it's effect. But I decided on going into this direction as it does take a lot to get to this Point. So I believed it most rewarding to at least still have the chance to summon the monster, even if you can't use it's effects. The second effect is to mimic cards like "Code Talker Heatsoul", but allows you to generate even more advantage during both turns. Also encouring players to actually keep it on the field, even if we would be locked into DARK Monsters, there are still some nasty Link 4's that would abuse this potential. I am still debating if I need to include the clause "This card cannot be used as a Link Material", even for all the effects already on it. Hollow-Eyes Destruction Dragon Level 12 DARK Monster Dragon / Ritual / Pendulum / Effect - 3000 ATK / 3000 DEF Pendulum Effect (Pendulum Scale - 9): During your Main Phase: You can Ritual Summon this card from your Pendulum Zone by Tributing DARK Monsters from your hand or field whose total Levels exactly equal 12. You cannot Special Summon monsters the turn you activate this effect, except DARK Monsters. You can only use this effect of "Hollow-Eyes Destruction Dragon" once per turn. Monster Effect: You can Ritual Summon this card with a "Hollow-Eyes" card. Must be Ritual Summoned from your hand or face-up Extra Deck. You can only control 1 “Hollow-Eyes Destruction Dragon”. This card gains effects based on the number of materials used for its Ritual Summon. ● 1+: This card can attack all monsters your opponent controls, once each. ● 2+: While this card is face-up on the field, DARK Ritual Monsters you control cannot be destroyed or targeted by your opponent's card effects. ● 3+: When this card is Ritual Summoned: Banish all cards your opponent currently controls. Quote Made as a complete after thought. I realized that I didn't have a boss-boss. I designed it with effects like Baby dragon and Leader with Hollow-Eyes in mind, as cheating it out wouldn't be impossible, so I wanted to reward players that could alter they resources appropriately. Honestly thinking about making the third ability negate all cards they control first and then banish, so we get a real big pay day for they efforts. Deck: All of these cards in their latest iteration are available on Dueling Book within the Public Custom Cards section for you to play around for yourself. A recommended deck list is: Hollow-Eyes Deck List. I implore for you to play around with them yourself, have some fun and see what is possible with them. Here is what I believe would be a popular 2 card combo: Hollow-Eyes 2 Card Combo (Baby + Lvl 4 Ritual Dragon), this combo is done with Baby Dragon + either Level 4 Ritual Dragon or Advocator. (Recommended to be watched in Fast Forward or Next Play button press). Possible Deck List (I apologize for the quality): Possible End Board (Baby + Lvl 4 Ritual Dragon, Ash Blossum was a Draw): This image is a possible End Board for this deck with just 2 cards. All the Spell / Traps are just possible options to have into your hand, essentially whatever you would be missing. Since you are locked into DARK Monsters, you have multitude of options to go into, with Devastation providing you a ritual summon during your opponents turn to either destroy or negate 1 card of your opponents. Viable options are Rank 4 Xyz monsters like Lswarm for going first, or Rebellion/Phantom Knights for going second. Another option is go into the Tenyi Link 4 or I:P Masq for Knightmare Unicorn option / Topologic Tris. If you happen to have searched for the Superheavy Samurai off of Demolition, you have access to Level 8 Synchro monsters too. The most powerful aspect is searching for Magician of Black Chaos MAX to be summoned during your opponents turn. Thank you so much for reading my post and reading my little passion project, please do not be shy to share your opinion as any and all feedback is encouraged and I would love to discuss more into this idea that I developed. Hope you enjoyed this, as much as I had making it.
