Gen Steps
Hello everyone of Yugioh Card Maker Forums, I wanted to share here the Custom card which I have created for the Ninja Archetype, the last remaining and missing Dragon Ninja. Also I want to explain my design philosophy behind the card. The card I have created is a card which I have wanted for a long time, Green Dragon Ninja. Dragon Ninja is a Sub archetype to Ninja which features Transformed upgraded states of the Color Ninjas, themselves a "psuedo" sub archetype within ninjas. Red Ninja (Crimson Ninja in the TCG) Blue Ninja (Armed Ninja in the TCG) Yellow Ninja White Ninja Black Ninja (Strike Ninja in the TCG) and lastly, the newest addition and the last remaining color which was finally added as a recent VJump Promo and PHHY TCG Import: Green Ninja Each Color Ninja (In Lore) Uses the Ninjitsu Art of Transformation OR Super Transformation to Transform Into their New Upgraded form, It is akin to a summoning Jutsu, where in Each Color Ninja Summons their respective "Dragon" from their Chakra. This is demonstrated by the Typings on Ninjitsu art of Transformation and Super Transformation, and in each Dragon Ninjas Artwork, which features each Color Ninja Unmasked with their Summoned "Dragon" Behind/Alongside them. Ninjitsu Art of Super Transformation Lists the Three Types of: Dragon -> White Ninja Super Transforms and Summons the White Dragon Taking the Attribute of Light. Dinosaur -> Yellow Ninja Super Transforms and Summons the Yellow Dinosaur Dragon Taking The Attirbute of Wind. Sea Serpent -> Blue Ninja Super Transforms and Summons the Blue Sea Serpent Dragon Taking the Attribute of Water. Ninjitsu Art of Transformation Lists the Three Types of: Beast -> Black Ninja Transforms and Summons the Black Beast Dragon Taking the Attribute of Darkness. Winged Beast -> Red Ninja Transforms and Summons the Red Winged Beast Dragon Taking the Attribute of Fire Insect -> This Dragon Ninja has Yet to be Officially made (This was the inspiration behind Green Dragon Ninja). This would be the Insect Dragon Ninja Taking the Last remaining Attribute of Earth. First Here is the Artwork, The Basis of the image was created entirely by me, drafted in black and white, in which i used the Insect Type monster Dragonbite for the Summoned Dragon, and I used various pieces of Ninjas to make the Unmasked Green Ninja. Keen eyes may be able to spot Hanzo, Crimson Ninja, and more, Also I incorporated Green Ninjas Weapons, the Blade and the Smoke Grenade. I then Sent my Drafted Piece off for Commission to a Talented Professional I found on Fiverr named Erick Extrada (Eexad00), He did a phenomenal job Fixing and Redrawing all my line art at higher resolution, adding detailing, and doing all of the Coloring, Shading, the Entire Background, basically everything, took my rough draft and he knocked it out of the park. Massive Credit and thanks to him! Now for the Card Itself: LEVEL: 2 EARTH INSECT EFFECT MONSTER 1900 ATTACK / 2100 DEFENSE Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can send 1 "Ninja" monster from your hand or face-up field to the GY, then apply 1 of the following effects: ● Flip 1 face-up monster on the field to face-down Defense Position. Opponent's monsters changed to face-down Defense Position by this effect cannot change their battle positions until the end of the next turn. ● Flip 1 face-down monster on the field to face-up Attack Position, then, if that monster was a "Ninja" monster, you can treat it as a Flip Summon. If a Spell/Trap card or effect is activated (Quick Effect): You can send 1 "Ninjitsu Art" card from your hand or face-up field to the GY; negate that Spell/Trap cards effect, and if you do, destroy it. You can only use each effect of "Green Dragon Ninja" once per turn. Here is a small Image which can convey some of the Design Philosophy: I Chose level 2 for this Ninja for various reasons: For starters, every Dragon Ninja has always been Lvl 5+, these high level monsters can be bricky and clunky, you rather them stay in the deck to be summoned by the transformation traps, than to be stuck with them in the hand, struggling to find tributes for them, which in many cases, isnt even optimal to tribute your other Ninjas just to bring them out. At Level 2, GDN becomes the first and only Low Level Dragon Ninja that can still be Normal Summoned Without Tribute, and also due to having a valuable effect, it never feels like a Brick in the hand or a dead card/draw. But theres more, Green Ninja (The base form) himself is a Level 2 Monster, By using his body as tribute for both Transformation and Duplication, you can summon GDN from your hand or Deck, that's Thematic Synergy, and it continues. Ninjas have only One Main Deck Insect Monster in their Archetype, Mitsu the Insect Ninja stands alone, as a Level 2 Insect. Not coincidentally, Number 2 Ninja Shadow Mosquito is the only Insect Ninja Extra Deck Monster, which is a Rank 2. He also has his own Ninjitsu Art Spell: Mosquito Marching which is meant to Summon Him and be Ninja Support. Mosquito Marching Currently has only 1 Valid Ninja Target to be summoned by its effect, which is Mitsu. Well since Green Dragon Ninja is to be the next Insect Ninja Card to be added into the game, it makes perfect sense, it just clicks in your brain, GDN SHOULD be Level 2. By being a Level 2 Insect, Both GDN and Mitsu can be Special Summoned from the Hand by Mosquito marching. That in conjunction with copies of Green Ninja in your hand which can be normal summoned And/or Special Summoned by its extender effect, can swarm the field with Level 2 Ninjas, and can more Easily Access Rank 2 Ninja Shadow Mosquito. In Regards to his Effects: He was designed in every way to be a Power Crept version of Previous Dragon Ninjas, essentially a fix to their core flaws (Hence being Level 2 and not Bricky) Almost Every Dragon Ninja (Bar Red and White) Require you to Pitch Ninjas AND Ninjitsu Art cards for Their Effects, and Blue can only Pitch from the Hand, Where as Yellow and Black can Pitch from the Field as Well. However, despite this being an improvement, it can also still be a drawback, for one, it still requires TWO, and One specifically of Each, meaning you Absolutely need to have Both in any given situation to do anything, and even when you can pitch from the field, that can be to your detriment because most cases you want to keep control of your Ninjitsu Arts, especially since you lose any monster you control that is connected to your traps. These Dragon Ninjas have decent effects, massively held back by how much resources you need to have and consistently recur to use their effects. So I powercrept that by making Green Dragon Ninjas Effects able to trigger by only needing to Pitch ONE Ninja OR One Ninjitsu Art Card for the Effect, from either the Hand or the Field, meaning you need far less resources for him to be useful and effective. But I threw in a Catch too, you could call it a flaw maybe, its there to reinforce skillful play: The CATCH is that GDN can only use NINJA MONSTERS to Flip face up or Face Down, and He can only use NINJITSU ART SPELLS AND TRAPS, to Negate an Opponents Spell or Trap Card. See what I mean? In order to use him effectively, you need to make sure you have the right card for the right play at the right time, you can only counter your opponents spells and traps with your own Ninjitsu art Spells and Traps, and only counter their Monsters with your Own Ninja Monsters. Plus He is a HARD ONCE PER TURN for both of His effects, i think makes him powerful and good for modern era but still Fair and Balanced. Hes also Balanced by his stats, which are excellent for a Low Level Normal Summonable Monster, but not the most powerful thing you can expect to sit on comfortably with no protection, He could still be played around and Easily ran over if you are not careful. Hes Meant to be used Like Mitsu the Insect Ninja as a Valuable Piece of your board but not the Boss Monster of it. The Boss Monsters are Saizo, Meizen, and White Dragon Ninja, and he compliments them very well. Now here are the Ways in which the card cleverly synergizes with Old and New Ninja Cards Alike. He forms a powerful combination with the Few Monster Negaters within Ninjas, if you can pull it off with the right set up of course. Green Dragon Ninja Can Negate 1 Spell or Trap card per turn (Hard Once per turn) and thus makes a good pair with Mitsu the Insect Ninja, who can negate 1 Monster Effect per turn, or with Rank 2 Ninja Shadow Mosquito, who can the Negate the effects of Monsters which have Hallucination Counters, And Lastly, Paired up with Blue Dragon Ninja, who can also Negate 1 Monster Effect per turn. His First Effects to Flip Monsters Face Down or Face Up is both a call back/upgrade to his Base form (Green Ninjas Effects) and also designed to synergize with other Flip Based Ninja cards/Effects. He is essentially a less powerful and watered down version of Jio the Gravity Ninja, being able to flip opponents monsters face down, and leave them stuck like that, but only temporarily, as opposed to Jio which is a permanent Lingering effect. And his ability to flip your own monsters can trigger Jios Destruction, it can trigger Yaguramrus Banish, it can Trigger every old School and New School Ninja Flip Effect, and its last trick to be able to Trigger a Flip Summon is specifically designed for Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo, which is the only Ninja in the entire game whos Flip is dependent on actually being a FLIP SUMMON, and not just a FLIP. In Casual play, it also Pairs well with old school Ninjitsu arts like Armor Ninjitsu art of Freezing, which prevents your opponent from changing battle positions, effectively making his Flip Face Down Permanent so long as you control it. So thats my Custom Card, Which you can find on Duelingbook for anyone interested! I tried my best to get the most proper PSCT I could, I went through various revisions/Iterations. Sorry if this was a long read, but I really wanted to explain everything behind the card the best I Could, thanks for listening and love to hear any thoughts/comments critiques. Gen Steps
Thank you very much to both of you! I am glad the card is well received and that my design philosophy understood. I have always been a huge fan of Ninja Archetype, And my love for them only grew with the newest Support the archetype received in DABL and PHHY Sets. I am currently on a kick for the Ninjas, And i enjoyed making this card so much that i've decided to make Realistic Cards out of Classic Anime Ninja Cards that have yet to be Officially printed! I have just put together all the Artworks for the cards I will bring to life, Some of these Cards have been done by people in the past before, but I will do my best to create the best, most realistic version of the Card updated for the modern era. I hold myself to a high design standard, my goal is always to make cards so real, so well designed, that you would think it was something Officially made by Konami themselves. Some of these Anime Ninja/Ninjitsu Art Cards effects may have to be radically changed or improved to work in Modern era. I will do my very best to keep the original spirit of the cards effects/intended purposes, while also tweaking, adding, or changing them in such a way that better synergizes with the rest of the archetype. I will increase weaker or functionally useless cards powers while making sure to keep them fair and balanced and not overpowered. I hope everyone look forward to those cards I will produce.
