Atypical-Abbie
Subaqueous Serpent is an archetype of semi-nomi Sea Serpent/WATER monsters with various Levels. They focus on counter mechanics, protection and battling tactics, as well as a bit of Synchro Summoning. Their main playstyle revolves around using counters to Special Summon them, and they each have different amounts required, as well as some needing any kind of counter, and some needing their own counters, Sea Counters. So as you read in the title, this theme is heavily inspired by Magic the Gathering, as I have been getting into that quite a lot recently, so wanted to make something like that, but for YGO instead. As such, the counter mechanic is like mana, with generic counters representing colorless, and Sea Counters representing blue mana. As well as that, the Spells/Traps represent Enchantment, Equipment and Instants, and most cards got effects that are similar to the most common keywords, like for example Swimmer's effects are like Deathtouch and Lifelink, and Soul got a Scry like effect, Surf represents Flash etc. Also I wanted to represent tapping as well, so Sorcerer changes to Defense Position in a similar way. I did not include summoning sickness though, as that might be a bit too slow for them. Their names all got alliteration, cause you know me by now, I like that kinda thing. Sample Deck: https://www.duelingbook.com/deck?id=11098377 MAIN DECK MONSTERS: Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned by an effect that removes a counter(s) from the field. Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned by an effect that removes a counter(s) from the field. If this card is in your hand: You can remove 1 counter from anywhere on the field; Special Summon this card. You can discard this card; Special Summon 1 "Subaqueous Token" (Sea Serpent/WATER/Level 1/ATK 0 /DEF 0) in Defense Position, then place 1 Sea Counter on it. You can discard 1 Sea Serpent monster; place 2 Sea Counters on this card. You can only use each effect of "Subaqueous Serpent Spawn" once per turn. Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. If this card is in your hand: You can remove 2 Sea Counters from from anywhere on the field; Special Summon this card. This card can attack twice during each Battle Phase. If this card is in your hand: You can remove 2 counters from from anywhere on the field, including at least 1 Sea Counter; Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Subaqueous Serpent Sinker" once per turn. EXTRA DECK MONSTERS: 1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner WATER monsters You can also Special Summon this card (from your Extra Deck) by removing 4 counters from anywhere on the field, including 3 Sea Counters. This card can attack your opponent directly if your opponent controls only 1 monster. Your opponent cannot target this card for an attack, unless they control a monster that can attack you directly. Each time a Spell/Trap Card is activated, place 1 Sea Counter on this card. SPELLS/TRAPS: Target 1 face-up card you control; place 1 counter on that target +1 Sea Counter(s) for each for each "Subaqueous Serpent" Spell/Trap you control and in your GY. You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 "Subaqueous Serpent" card in your GY; look at the top card of your Deck, then you can place it on the bottom of the Deck, then place that target on top or bottom of your Deck. You can only use each effect of "Subaqueous Serpent Soul" once per turn. Activate this card by targeting 1 Sea Serpent monster you control; equip this card to that target, then place 1 counter on this card and that target. The equipped monster gains 500 ATK/DEF for each counter on it. Once per turn, if you would remove a counter to Special Summon a "Subaqueous Serpent", that counter can be treated as a Sea Counter. Once per turn, during the Standby Phase: You can place 1 counter on this card and the equipped monster. If this card with a counter on it is destroyed: You can draw 1 card. When this card is activated: Place 2 Sea Counters on it. If a "Subaqueous Serpent" monster(s) is Special Summoned: You can remove 1 counter from anywhere on the field; add 1 "Subaqueous Serpent" card from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Subaqueous Serpent Submerge" up to twice per turn. If you control no monsters, you can activate this card from your hand. When this card is activated: Place 2 Sea Counters on it. You can remove 2 or 4 counters from anywhere on the field; Special Summon 1 "Subaqueous Serpent" monster from your hand, or if you removed 4 Sea Counters, you can Special Summon it from your GY instead. You can only use this effect of "Subaqueous Serpent Surf" up to twice per turn.
D1G1TAL
I think how counter rulings work is that if you need remove a counter, you cant remove any counter, it has to specifically be a counter with no name. Im pretty sure that “counter” and “Sea counter” do not overlap

Im looking for it but i can’t find anything that confirms or denies it. My yugioh experience says that theres no overlap between types of counters whatsoever, as that mechanic has never been used bofore. I think you could clarify in the cards by saying “any 1 counter” tho.
