(Updated) Synchro xyz and link support for Tearalaments

(Edit: I forgot to explain what the base archetype does, but the wiki page will always better explain it then I would, so i recommend reading the Tearalaments wiki article before reading these cards if you have no idea how the deck works.)

Tearalaments is my favourite deck of all time. It’s essentially a better version of Lightsworn, which was previously my favourite. For those who don’t know what they are or do, tearalaments is an archetype that will soon come to the TCG and has already proven its worth in the OCG by being the only deck keeping Splight off of its tier 0 status (not pure though). Even before I knew it was meta, I was tinkering with the deck and putting it in all sorts of decks and engines (super quant teara was a mistake). I noticed that Tearalaments Crime and Tearalaments Grief have a floating effect that adds a banished tearalaments card back to the hand, despite there being almost no way to get these is the banished zone. That got me thinking, and so i made some support cards for them that do what the archetype seemingly missed. I also made them a synchro, xyz and a link monster, because why not?

(The art is not original)

There are 4 cards:

Cannot be used as a Synchro or Link Material Monster, except for the Synchro or Link Summon of a Fish, Sea Serpent or Aqua monster. If this card is sent to the GY by card effect: You can special summon this card, then send the top card of your deck to the GY. You can send 1 “Tearalaments” monster from your Deck to the GY, and if you do, this card's Level becomes the same as that monster’s. You can only use each effect of “Tearalaments Sellky” once per turn.

Name origin: Selkie

- The restriction is specifically made for halq, because a tuner that summons itself for free is otherwise too powerful because Konami doesn't want to ban halq for some reason (look at glow-up bulb).

Name origin: Shoal + Lyngbakr

1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters

Gains 200 ATK for each “Tearalaments" card in your GY. Once per turn: You can send 1 card from each player's field to the GYs. If this card is sent to the GY: You can banish 1 other “Tearalaments" card from your GY: Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Tearalaments Shoalyngbakr" once per turn.

- The synchro is lvl 6 so that it can be made with the tuner + any tearalament main deck monster, but if anyone has a better argument to make it a different level, feel free to tell me.

- I made effect (2) not OPT because you could send itself and then revive itself with effect (3) (which is OPT) to activate effect (2) a second time. This is intended.

- 2400 atk + 500 atk (field spell) + 200 for each adds up to a lot real quick, so that could be an argument for it being a higher level. It’s also why I only made it 200 atk for each card.

2 Level 4 “Tearalaments” monsters

While “Pelreino, the Primal Parallel Ruined Realm” is in your field zone, this card cannot be targeted by card effects or for attacks, but does not prevent your opponent from attacking you directly. Once per turn, during the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can target 1 card your opponent controls; detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, and if you do, banish that target. If this card is sent to the GY by card effect: You can target up to 3 banished cards: shuffle them into the Deck.

Name origin: Nereid

- This cards draws it’s effects from 3 monsters: The Legendary Fisherman, Drident and Redoer (doesn’t detach for cost).

- I think that as long as the materials are only Tearalaments, this can’t be summoned using just a small engine in a different deck, so its fine to make the effects a little more powerful.

3 "Tearalaments" monsters

If this card is link summoned: You can send 1 Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck to the GY, but for the rest of this turn, you cannot activate cards, or the effects of cards, with the same name as that card. During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can send 1 monster this card points to to the GY, and if you do, shuffle up to 3 cards from any GY(s) into the Deck. If this card is sent to the GY by card effect, or if a monster is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck to a zone(s) this card points to: You can send the top 4 cards of your Deck to the GY. You can only use each effect of "Tearalaments Morgeneptune" once per turn.

Name origin: Morgen + Neptune

- 3 Tearalaments is almost impossible to get on the field if you are not playing pure Tearalaments, so that’s why the effects can be very generic and still not be broken.

- Effect (1) is meant to send a fusion monster to solely be used as fusion material (for example a shaddoll fusion to make winda with another tearalaments monster)

- We didn't have D.D. crow in the deck yet, so yeah.

UPDATE:

Hi, I added a new synchro monster to this post and so now apparently Ghoti of the Great Beyond is now a Tearalaments support card?! Because noone knows what that card is, let me show you its effects. (This is an official card.)

This seems like an interesting card if it gets the right support, and I want to make that support and link it to my favourite deck of the next format while we’re at it.

This is the card:

1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner “Tearalaments” monsters

(This card is always treated as a “Tearalaments” card.)

During your opponents Standby Phase: You can Special Summon 1 “Tearalaments” monster from your GY, but negate its effects, and if you do, you can increase or decrease this cards Level by that monster’s. During your opponent's Main Phase or Battle Phase, you can: Immediately after this effect resolves, Synchro or Xyz Summon 1 Fish, Sea Serpent or Aqua Synchro or Xyz Monster, using only "Tearalaments" monsters you control. You can only use each effect of "Messengers of the Deep Beyond" once per turn.

- I was originally going to let it foolish a teara spell/trap, but I thought it was maybe too much text on the card then.

- If you send “Tearalaments Reinoheart” with the effect of “Tearalaments Sellky”, Reinoheart can revive itself and make this synchro monster.

- Also note that I changed the type to Sellky to Fish so it can make Ghoti.

- If you summon Sellky during the Standby Phase, you have to increase its level by 1, if you summon a lvl 4, you have to decrease its level so you can xyz summon the rank 4 from earlier in this post.

Thank you for reading. Please tell me what you think of it. ^.^

All in all a good set that seems to support the archetype in just the exact way it needs, at least judging from the current members.

* The Dewgong Sellky is truly powerful, it kinda reminds me of Neptabyss, though this one is a Tuner that can adjust its level, damn. yes
* Shoalyngbakr <-- the spelling, man xD. Level 6 or 7 are good for WATER Synchros, and considering the Dewgong, I'd say it's just fine. I don't like very much how it can send itself to GY to fulfill the effect and auto revive, if it said "except this card", it would seem fairer.  DPE but better removal type.
*Nereid - Cute lady. That Spell Speed 2 effect you got in there, avoid using "during either player's turn" since that's outdated. Instead, "Once per turn (Quick Effect): I've never been a fan of those effects that reset a place (shuffle all GY/banished into the Deck) but that's just me, it's not an effect I'm against by its quality. yeah that last effect is a little much, maybe instead "you can return up to 3 'Tearalament' monsters that are banished to the bottom of your deck or GY."
*Morgeneptune - Wait, this one has a (Quick Effect) xD. I like this one. That shuffle effect that is both recycle and opponent punishment is good stuff, plus the strong milling effect just fits nicely. Is perfect addition!

I see this is your first post, so welcome to YCM and enjoy your stay, Kirby person with a big cap. Yes Welcome!

Thank you for welcoming me! :D

I’m glad you like the cards!

Xyz errata: You can shuffle all banished cards into the deck -> You can target up to 3 banished cards: shuffle them into the Deck.

This was indeed too powerful in some matchups, and I wanted it so you can shuffle the cards you banished with uts other effects too, because Tearalaments have something with shuffling opponents cards into the deck too (Kaleidoheart). The new effect is just enough to do that, and is in parallel to the link monsters effect. Returning to the GY OR to the Deck will probably be a ruling nightmare and many judge calls would be made, since the question of “Can i choose to put 1 in the GY and 2 in the deck?” would come up (this is not the case btw) and cards that are returned to the GY from being banished don’t count as being sent to the GY, which will confuse players.

As for the Synchro, I specifically made that effect not a HOPT so that can occur, so I think its fine. You also just can’t do that in a Generic WATER deck, because it can’t revive itself then.

Thank you for the feedback ^.^

I might make a lvl8 synchro since it would be easy to summon, and also possibly a ritual monster and spell, but i’m running out of mermaid names :v If anyone has ideas for card names and designs, let me know!

Well, damn, this is not my week...

I think Robin was talking to us both Ray (I don't think they knew that quoting me wouldn't notify you). That or maybe they didn't notice 2 different people were talking since I built off of what you were saying (literally mostly agreeing with you).

Ghoti is very powerful, I think just coming back by being banished by its own effect is enough, if not at least restrict it to when it is banished from the field. One desires makes the ATK 5000. If the field was full when you blew it up (theoretically) 23 cards=11500ATK (not including itself because it comes back 11 other monster zones 12 S/T that's a lot.

Last monster ties the archetype together greatly NICE!

I’m so sorry I did mean to thank both of you :(

I also just in general have no idea what’s going on because I’m new.

I hope the rest of your week is better?
