iexzxx
For those who don't know, Crystal Beasts are a series of monsters which main gimmick was that, when destroyed, they would become Continuous Spell on your Field (The original Pendulums). You would then use them for other effects such as a in-archetype Raigeki (Crystal Raigeki), summoning them all togethers to swarm the Field or go into the all powerful Rainbow Dragon! As cool as Crystal Beasts are, they are not very good and have some design flaws: •They don't have great effects of their own; •Have no effects as Spells; •They clog up your Field real fast. Seekers of Truth try to create a successor to this creative archetype, with more modern effects, some new spins on concept and their own little gimmick! Seekers of Truth designs are based on the videogame Persona 4, published by Atlus in 2008, with a remake in Persona 4 Golden in 2012, and a re-realese on Steam in recent years. Persona 4 is an investigation game around a paranormal murder case, but the real message that is trying to get across, and the one that these cards are designed around, is to face the worst, ugly and hidden side of ourselves, the one we don't want to talk about or we don't want to identify as. Our monsters reflect this by having 2 distinct effects: One while they are a Monster, and the second while a Continuous Spell. The other strong gimmick, like Crystal Beasts, is the power of bonds and working together towards victory: This is reflected on our Xyz Monsters and Spells&Traps. Let's get into the card by card, shall we? (SPOILERS FOR PERSONA 4 CHARACTERS AND STORY AHEAD) SEEKER OF TRUTH, JIRAIYA ATTRIBUTE: Wind 🌪 LEVEL: 4 [Reptile/Effect] (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate (1) and (3) effects of "Seeker of Truth, Jiraiya" once per turn. (1) When this card is Summoned from your hand or GY: You can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Persona" Monster from your Deck, except "Seeker of Truth, Jiraiya", but destroy it at the end of the Main Phase. (2) If this monster would be sent from the Field to the GY: You can place it in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell. (3) While this card is treated as a Spell Card, and you control a Level 8 monster: You can Special Summon this monster from your Spell & Trap Zone, and if you do, change its Level to 8. 1200 ATK/100 DEF Jiraiya is already a great card, not synergizing only with "Seekers of Truth" but any "Persona" monsters (more "Persona" archetypes at the bottom of the page!). The monsters summoned by the (1) effect will be destroyed, which puts our "Seekers of Truth" in the Spell and Trap Zone. As a Spell, it's an instant Rank 8, especially our own Rank 8! SEEKER OF TRUTH, TOMOE ATTRIBUTE: Water LEVEL: 4 [Warrior/Effect] (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can use the (3) effect of "Seeker of Truth, Tomoe" once per turn. (1) If a "Persona" card(s) you control is targeted by an opponent's card effect: You can Tribute this card from your hand or Main Monster Zone; negate that effect, and if you do, destroy that card (2) If this monster would be sent from the Field to the GY: You can place it in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell. (3) While this card is treated as a Spell Card: You can target a monster your opponent controls (Quick Effect); banish it until the End Phase, but any damage your opponent takes this turn is halved. 1400 ATK/700 DEF A non-once per turn protection effect from the hand is pretty great, especially since it also destroys the opponent's card. The Spell effect can temporarily get rid of an annoying boss monster, destroy Equip Spells or Xyz Materials, or disrupt the opponent's play during their turn. Great potential all around, but not a great enabler for the theme. SEEKER OF TRUTH, KONOHANA-SAKUYA ATTRIBUTE: Fire LEVEL: 4 [Spellcaster/Effect] (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate (1) and (3) effect of "Seeker of Truth, Konohana-Sakuya" once per turn. (1) You can target a "Seeker of Truth" monster in your GY; Special Summon it in Defense Position. (2) If this monster would be sent from the Field to the GY: You can place it in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell. (3) While this card is treated as a Spell Card, you can target a monster your opponent control (Quick Effect): Negate that monster's effects, and if you do, inflict 500 points of damage to your opponent. 1600 ATK/200 DEF Konohana-Sakuya can revive some of our lost "Seekers of Truth", ready to get back to combat (and also triggering Jiraiya's effect and getting another Special Summon). As a Spell, she provides some great negation while burning our opponent slowly: This is something they will have to respect, since this deck can get very explosive very fast, dashing out more damage out of nowhere, and Konohana-Sakuya Spell effect is a Quick Effect, meaning that in 16 turns she can inflict 8000 damage alone while negating a monster PERMANENTLY. SEEKER OF TRUTH, KINTOKI DOUJI ATTRIBUTE: Dark LEVEL: 8 [Beast-Warrior/Tuner/Effect] (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by Tributing any number of "Persona" monsters you control (min. 1). (1) Cannot be used for a Synchro Summon, except the Synchro Summon of a "Persona" monster. (2) If this monster would be sent from the Field to the GY: You can place it in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell. (3) While this card is treated as a Spell Card: You can Special Summon it, but you cannot Special Summon monsters for the rest of the turn, except "Seeker of Truth" monsters. You can summon "Seeker of Truth, Kintoki Douji" once per turn this way. 1800 ATK/1700 DEF Kintoki Douji is our Special Summoning mule, easily bringing itself for our Xyz Monsters. Since it tributes our monsters, "Seekers of Truth" will then become Spells: So if we tribute Jiraiya for Kintoki Douji, Jiraiya can then Special Summon itself again as Level 8! Let's not worry about its Tuner status, it's more about "Lore" than mechanics. SEEKER OF TRUTH, TAKE-MIKAZUCHI ATTRIBUTE: Light LEVEL: 1 [Warrior/Effect] (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) (1) If this card is Special Summoned from your Spell & Trap Card Zone: You can add 1 "Persona" card from your Deck to your hand, but you cannot activate its effects this turn. (2) If this monster would be sent from the Field to the GY: You can place it in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell. (3) While this card is treated as a Spell Card: Increase the ATK and DEF of all monsters you control by 800. 1200 ATK/400 DEF Take-Mikazuchi is the only "Persona" card that can search any of the 90+ "Persona" cards, so it's a pretty powerful effect, we'll see how to actually summon it in a bit. Its Spell effect can look underwhelming, but our monsters have pretty low stats and good protection so it's more than welcome to help us stick around, and it works with any monster as well. SEEKER OF TRUTH, HIMIKO ATTRIBUTE: Earth 🏔 LEVEL: 1 [Psychic/Tuner/Effect] (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate (1) and (3) effect of "Seeker of Truth, Himiko" once per turn. (1) During the Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can place a "Seeker of Truth" monster from your Deck in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell. (2) If this monster would be sent from the Field to the GY: You can place it in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell. (3) While this card is treated as a Spell Card: You can change the Level of a "Seeker of Truth" Monster you control to 8. 1000 ATK/600 DEF Himiko is one of our best cards, being able to place any "Seeker of Truth" as a Spell directly from our Deck. Theoratically, you can summon Himiko, place Tomoe in your turn and then place Konohana-Sakuya in your opponent's turn, and you have a monster negate and monster banish in a single summon! Himiko is also an "Emergency Teleport" summon being a Level 1 Psychic, and being a "Persona" Tuner it has some support coming in the future as well. Her Spell effect is also amazing, turning any of our monsters in a Level 8 (Jiraiya can Special Summon itself after this as well!). SEEKER OF TRUTH, SUKUNA-HIKONA ATTRIBUTE: Light LEVEL: 1 [Fairy/Effect] (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can summon only 1 "Seeker of Truth, Sukuna-Hikona" per turn. (1) Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can Special Summon 1 "Seeker of Truth" Monster Card from your Spell & Trap Zone, and if you do, change this card's Level to 8, but you cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck, except for "Persona" monsters. (2) If this monster would be sent from the Field to the GY: You can place it in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell. (3) While this card is treated as a Spell Card: The first time each "Persona" monster you control would be destroyed each turn, by card effect, it is not destroyed. 400 ATK/1000 DEF Sukuna-Hikona is a bit of a tricky card: It's our only way to recycle our monsters from the Spell&Trap Zone, and helps to not clog it; it triggers Take-Mikazuchi's effect; it allows Himiko to get even more of our monsters in rotation during either turns; allows even more summons of Kintoki-Douji; and can get a last second protection with Tomoe. Its Spell effect is also pretty amazing, giving some great effect protection to our monsters. SEEKER OF TRUTH, IZANAGI ATTRIBUTE: Light RANK: 8 [Fiend/Xyz/Effect] 2+ Level 8 "Persona" Monsters (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate (2) and (3) effect of "Seeker of Truth, Izanagi" once per turn. (1) This card gains ATK and DEF equal to half of the original ATK and DEF of all "Seeker of Truth" Monster Cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone. (2) When this card is Xyz Summoned: You can Special Summon a "Seeker of Truth" monster from your GY or your Spell & Trap Zone. (3) Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; destroy cards equal to the number of "Seeker of Truth" Cards you control. (4) If you control no other "Persona" card: Destroy this card. You can control only 1 "Seeker of Truth, Izanagi". ? ATK/? DEF Our first Xyz monsters, and easiest one to access. Its stats are dependant on our board state, and since our own monsters are pretty weak, you will need a substantial amount of monsters for Izanagi to have high ATK (Take-Mikazuchi provides it 1400 ATK if used as a Spell). Izanagi can Special Summon from Graveyard (triggering Jiraiya's effect) or from our Spell&Trap Zone (triggering Take-Mikazuchi's effect) upon Xyz Summon, providing some follow-ups. By detaching a material, Izanagi is a potential board-wipe, depending on how many "Seeker of Truth" on the field, but it can also overshoot: Since it requires to destroy an equal amount of cards on either field, you may have to destroy your own monsters, either sending them to the Grave or in the Spell&Trap Zone (Sukuna-Hikona, could help with protecting you though!) . (Also Pay attention to not destroy it by not having other "Persona" cards!) ATTRIBUTE: Light LEVEL: 1 SCALES: 11 - 11 [Pendulum Effect] (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate the (2) Pendulum effect of "Keeper of Truth, Sraosha" once per turn. You cannot Pendulum Summon monsters, except "Seeker of Truth" monsters. (1) While on a Pendulum Zone, this card can be treated as a Continuous Spell. (2) You can Special Summon 1 "Seeker of Truth" Monster from your hand, but destroy it at the end of the Main Phase. [Fairy/Pendulum/Effect] (1) If you control a "Persona" Xyz Monster: You can attach this card to it as material (From the field). (2) If you control a "Persona" Xyz Monster while this card is the GY or face-up in your Extra Deck: You can place this card in your Pendulum Zone. (3) A "Persona" Xyz Monster that has this card as Xyz Material gains this effect. •All damage this card inflicts to your opponent is doubled, but it cannot attack directly. 0 ATK/800 DEF Sraosha is not technically a "Seeker of Truth" so be careful with that. This is also the easiest way to get any sort of Continuous Spell on our Field if we need one, and it's one of our only ways to Special Summon "Seekers of Truth" from the hand. It also infinitely replaces itself on our Scales as long as we control an Xyz "Persona" monster. Sraosha can attach itself as material from the field, and this could be pretty important for our next Xyz, but as Material she grants double damage to our Xyz Monster at cost of attacking directly. SEEKER OF LIES, MAGATSU-IZANAGI ATTRIBUTE: Dark RANK: 8 [Warrior/Xyz/Effect] 4 Level 8 "Seekers of Truth" Monsters (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate each effect of "Seeker of Lies, Magatsu-Izanagi" once per turn. You can also Xyz Summon this card by detaching 3 Xyz Materials from a "Seeker of Truth" Xyz Monster you control. (1) You can send a "Seeker of Truth" card you control to the GY, then target a monster your opponent controls; attach it to this card as material. (2) If this card is targeted by an opponent's card effect: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the effect and banish that opponent's card. You can control only 1 "Seeker of Lies, Magatsu-Izanagi". 2500 ATK/2000 DEF Magatsu-Izanagi is summonable by making Izanagi with 3 Materials, or by attaching Sraosha to a 2 material Izanagi. Magatsu-Izanagi will start with no Xyz Materials, so Sraosha or its (1) effect are very important if you want him to stick around. This card is pretty similar to Number 101: Silent Honor ARK, but it can remove more monsters and has some better protection. Its main weakness are its stats again, so if you can increase it, do it. A NEW WORLD'S FOOL QUICK-PLAY SPELL CARD (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate only 1 "A New World Fool" per turn. (1) If you control a "Seeker of Truth" monster: Target a face-up card your opponent controls; flip that card face-down. If you controlled "Seeker of Lies, Magatsu-Izanagi" at the time of this card's activation: Flip all cards your opponent controls face-down. An in-archetype Book of Moon, but with a bonus if we control Magatsu Izanagi, basically shutting down the opponent's monsters. It could be hard to pull off though... LIKE A DREAM COME TRUE NORMAL SPELL CARD (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate only 1 "Like a Dream come True" per turn. (1) Send 1 "Persona" Continuous Spell from your Field to the Graveyard: Draw 1 card, then add 1 "Persona" Pendulum monster from your Deck to your hand, but for the rest of the turn after this card resolves, you cannot summon monsters, except "Persona" monsters. (2) You can banish this card from your GY, except the turn it was sent there: Add 1 Level 8 "Persona" Monster from your Deck to your hand. A great searcher by using our Continuous Spells to add any "Persona" Pendulum, in this case Sraosha, and drawing card. In Grave it can banish itself to search Kintoki-Douji (or Castor, if we want to think about Shadow Hunters. See link at the bottom.) SHADOW WORLD FIELD SPELL CARD (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) (1) All "Seekers of Truth" monsters you control gain 400 ATK and DEF for each Continuous Spell on the Field. (2) Each time a "Seeker of Truth" Continuous Spell you control leaves the Spell & Trap Card Zone: You can place 1 "Shadow Token" (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 1/0 ATK/0 DEF) in your Spell & Trap Card Zone. (3) You can Tribute 2 "Shadow Token" you control; add 1 "Seeker of Truth" monster from your Deck to your hand. A very high potential card, that can give a 2000 ATK and DEF boost (4000 if our opponent has 5 Continuous Spells). Also if, for any reason, our "Seeker of Truth" Spells leave the Field, we get a Token which can be used to search a "Seeker of Truth" (not once per turn btw). This does risk to entirely clog up our Zones, so be careful with your manegement! SHADOW TOKEM ATTRIBUTE: Dark LEVEL: 1 [Fiend/Token] Special Summoned by the effect of "Shadow World". 0 ATK/0 DEF NEVERMORE QUICK-PLAY SPELL CARD (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) (1) If you control 4 or more "Seeker of Truth" cards: Target a monster you control; it becomes unaffected by cards effects until your opponent's End Phase, also it gains 1000 ATK. (2) If you controlled 8 "Seeker of Truth" cards with different names at the time of this card's activation: "Persona" cards you control cannot be targeted by your opponent's card effects until the End Phase, also they cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects until the End Phase. 4 "Seeker of Truth" cards is a pretty easy task, and it gives us a permanent 1000 ATK and unaffected until the End Phase, but 8 "Seekers of Truth" with different names is going to really show how broken our board already is, by making it virtually invincible for a turn. NEXT CHANCE TO MOVE ON NORMAL SPELL CARD (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate only 1 "Next Chance to Move On" per turn. (1) Shuffle a face-up "Persona" Pendulum Monster in your Extra Deck into the Deck, OR shuffle an Xyz Monster from your Field or Graveyard into the Extra Deck: Place 1 "Seeker of Truth" Monster from your Deck into your Spell & Trap Card Zone. Just a good way to recycle Pendulums and Xyz and getting a Continuous Spell on the Field. Our Deck is very control oriented, waiting for a chance to explode all at once and getting a win, so this card can help in some sficky situations. YOUR AFFECTION NORMAL TRAP CARD (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate the (2) effect of "Your Affection" once per turn. (1) Destroy 1 "Seeker of Truth" card you control to target up to 2 Monsters your opponent controls; destroy those targets. (2) You can banish this card from your Graveyard, except the turn it was sent there; Special Summon 1 Level 4 FIRE or WATER "Seeker of Truth" Monster from your hand or Deck, but destroy at the end of the Main Phase. Your Affection is inspired by Crystal Raigeki, but it's much better, since it can destroy our monsters as well and not only Continuous Spell. It even has a Graveyard effect to summon either Tomoe or Konohana-Sakuya! HEARTBEAK, HEARTBREAK NORMAL TRAP CARD (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate the (2) effect of "Heartbeat, Heartbreak" once per turn. (1) Send 1 "Seeker of Truth" card from your Spell & Trap Card Zone to the Graveyard; you take no battle damage from your opponent's monsters for the rest of the turn, also monsters you control cannot be destroyed by battle this turn. (2) You can banish this card from your Graveyard: Place 1 "Seeker of Truth" Tuner Monster to your Spell & Trap Card Zone. This card does not destroy our cards, but it still triggers their effect to become Spells. Either way, this is a great way to stall our Opponent to setup more next turn, or if we are just missing that battle protection this archetype oh-so-need. This also place Kintoki Douji and Himiko directly from our deck! REACH OUT TO THE TRUTH NORMAL TRAP CARD (This card is always treated as a "Persona" card) You can activate only 1 "Reach out to the Truth" per turn. (1) Destroy 1 "Seeker of Truth" card you control, then look at your opponent's hand; Special Summon a monster that can be Normal Summoned from their hand to their Field, and if you do, set a "Persona" Normal Spell from your Deck to the Field. A very unique effect: By allowing a Special Summon to your opponent (maybe even an annoying one for them like a handtrap), we can set any "Persona" Spell from our Deck! Pretty tricky and risky, but very high reward. SAVIORS OF WORLD'S TRUTH ATTRIBUTE: Light RANK: 0 [Fairy/Xyz/Effect] 2 "Persona" Xyz Monsters with different names but with same Rank (This card's original Rank is always treated as 1. This card is always treated as a "Persona" card.) (1) This card gains ATK and DEF equal to the original ATK and DEF of all "Seeker of Truth" Monster cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone. (2) Your opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to this card's effects. (3) When this card is Summoned: Look at your opponent's Set cards, then destroy one of those Set cards. (4) Once per turn, you can target face-up cards your opponent controls up to the number of "Persona" cards you control (Quick Effect): Return them to the hand, then inflict 400 points of damage for each "Seeker of Truth" card you control. (5) If you control a "Seeker of Truth" card: This card cannot be destroyed by card effects. You can summon only 1 "Saviors of World's Truth" per turn. ? ATK/? DEF And here is our actual boss monster! We will need to summon Izanagi and Magatsu-Izanagi, which isn't too hard (either 3 Level 8 "Persona" Monsters, or 2 Level 8 "Monsters" + Sraosha). Our ATK and DEF will be double than what Izanagi ATK and DEF would be, gathering our whole potential together, and as long as we have more than 0 ATK and DEF on this card, Savior of World's Truth will also be indestructible by card effects. Upon summon it will reveal our opponent Set cards and in return their strategy and what to work around, and then we can destroy one of them. This card can also bounce the entire Opponent's board to the hand if our own board is well built (this time without overshooting our own board); this also burns our opponent with FTK potential: If Sraosha is a material on Savior of World's Truth it will double the effect damage, dealing 800 for each "Seeker of Truth" we control, so if we control a "Seeker of Truth" in each Zone available, we will deal 8000 points of damage in a single activation! P.S. Our opponent cannot respond to this card's effects! SHADOW HUNTER ARCHETYPE (PERSONA 3): THIEF OF HEART ARCHETYPE (PERSONA 5):
