A very Panick-esque Card....

Shroud of Darkness

Field Spell

If you would Normal Summon a DARK monster: Place it in face-down Attack Position instead. DARK monsters in face-down Attack Position are only revealed when declaring an attack or selected as a target for an attack or effect. All face-up DARK monsters you control gain 300 ATK/DEF.

Hmmm question:
Once something does involve them in a battle or as targets for an effect, is the card saying that in that instant they flip face-up for good? or that they flip face-up only while in that specific transaction?

I like this. A full theme can grow from this concept where you dodge stat-related negative effects (like Bottomless Trap Hole), or avoid Counters like that of Venom Swamp, or give them support in the form of equips the mechanic is supposed to drop when flipping back down, or something like the attack protection of the Ghostrick Field Spells.

Not saying all this combines well with all those specific examples (multiple field spells and all that) but the core concept of those effects can be built around this idea of face-down attack position. Darkness Approaches being errata'd out of its unique trait was a waste along with other strange ideas like Carboneddon requiring "pressure" in the form of "x number of cards on top of it in the GY", or "attachments" working for stuff OTHER than Xyzs.... among other stuff that'd be fun to break rules with like using non-Level monsters (Xyzs/Links) as Tuners that could potentially achieve 2+ monsters adding up to Level 1 Synchros at last., or giving Ranks or arrows to stuff out of their mechanics.... lots of experimental stuff I'm now recalling.

A-anyways, I'm getting side-tracked here. I like the card, and Kudos to Panic and his oddly numbered stats. King of Yamimakai has lore in other card artworks but too much of that seems anime-only.

Well the card says to "reveal" the monster. So I guess it would return to its original position after the situation resolves. Since revealing a card doesn't inherently keep it face-up. So I guess that 300 point boost only applies while the monster is revealed. Interesting thought.
