ClemsContent
My second attempt at designing some cards. I'm drawing inspiration from one of the Celtic creation myths, where Eiocha (a horse born of of seafoam), grew pregnant by eating some berries, and tore some pieces of bark off the tree while in labour. Those pieces of bark then turned into giants of the sea. After Eiocha was done giving birth (to Cernunnos, from my first card set), she turned back into seafoam and became a goddess of the sea (Tethra). With that in mind: Version IV: Name - Eiocha Level - 4 | Attribute - WATER| Monster Type - Beast/Effect ATK/DEF - 800/800 Effect(s) - During your Main Phase, if you control no monsters, and there are no monsters in your GY: You can Special Summon this card from your hand in face-up Defense Position. During your opponent's Draw Phase: You can return this card to your hand, and if you do, select 1 face-up monster you control; Special Summon 1 monster from your hand or Deck, with the same Level as the selected monster, in face-up Defense Position, and take damage equal to the Level of the Special Summoned monster x200. During your End Phase: You can banish this card you control. When this card is banished: You can Special Summon 1 Level 6 or lower WATER monster from your hand or Deck in face-up Defense Position. You can only activate each effect of "Eiocha" once per turn. Name - Seafoam Berries Spell | Spell Type - Continuous Effect(s) - When this card is activated: Add 1 continuous spell card from your Deck to your hand. Once per turn, during your End Phase: You can target 1 face-up Beast monster you control; Return the selected card to your hand, and if you do, Special Summon 1 Level 7 monster from your hand or Deck in face-up Defense Position. Name - Limbs of Bark Spell | Spell Type - Continuous Effect(s) - During your opponent's Draw Phase: You can Special Summon 1 monster from your hand or Deck in face-up defense position, and if you do, take damage equal to the Level of the Special Summoned monster x400. You can only use the effect of "Limbs of Bark" once per turn. Name - Seafoam Giant Level - 5 | Attribute - WATER| Monster Type - Fiend/Effect ATK/DEF - 1800/1700 Effect(s) - During your Draw Phase, if this card is in your hand, and you control no monsters: You can Special Summon this card from your hand in face-up Defense Position. During your Standby Phase: You can Special Summon 1 Level 5 or lower Fiend monster from your hand in face-up Defense Position. You can only use each of effect of "Seafoam Giant" once per turn. Name - Tethra Level - 6 | Attribute - WATER| Monster Type - Fairy/Effect ATK/DEF - 1900/2200 Effect(s) - Cannot be destroyed by battle with monsters with a Level equal or lower than this card. Once per turn, during your End Phase: You can shuffle this card into your deck; Return all face-up monsters you control to your hand, and if you do, inflict damage equal to their combined Level x200 to your opponent. When this card you control is shuffled into your deck, draw 1 card.
Pommelo
I'm liking how you give some background about your cards for us to understand the flavour n.n The set seems rather balanced, in some cases a tiny bit underwhelming, like Tethra, in some cases somewhat OP, like Limbs of Bark. Always try to be careful with effects that Special Summon /add to hand / recycle generic cards, because they're way too powerful and bound to cause trouble. Limbs of Bark does this, and the LP cost is not enough to balance it, and on top of that it has no HOPT. You could easily bring 2 Level 2 or 3 mons with relatively few cost and have a lot of fun xD. Some grammar to mention: Never use Select. IIRC, nowadays it is not used for anything. For cards on the field, banished or in your GY, use target. If you're selecting cards in the hand, use choose. Choose can also be used for the scarce effects that choose zones. I see that you put in use the "exactly 1", but that's not the correct usage. Exactly 1 if used to make sure the effect is applied when that very 1 card and no other is affected. In the case of Seafoam Giant, you can simply say: .......and you control no monsters: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. See ya around! Name - Limbs of Bark Spell | Spell Type - Continuous Effect(s) - Once per turn, during your opponent's Draw Phase: You can Special Summon 1 monster from your hand or Deck in face-up defense position, and if you do, take damage equal to the Level of the Special Summoned monster x300. Once per turn, during your End Phase: You can return all face-up monsters you control to your hand, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to their combined Level x200. So far I have seen WATER Beast/Fairy/Fiend. I'm loving the flavor and here is my review: 1. Eiocha- Finally your custom beast for the archetype, looking forward to more water beast. Great searcher, I wish it was level 2 with how much it works with low level beasts. 2. Berries- great as is and would be great in beast decks. 9 level 7 beast in the game (for pure beast decks) 4 of which are Ursartics. 3. Bark- Generic powerful staple. 4. Giant- the original wording implies you plan to create other cards treated as Seafoam giant while in the hand? Helps swarm well, 5. Tethra- Easy consistent FTK all you need is 34 levels of monsters between the remaining 5 zones an average of about level 7 not including if you could do other burn damage. Draw phase effects are interesting. I modified some of the cards in the quote not necessarily with improvements but some alternate versions. Tell me what you think? ClemsContent
Thanks again! I've updated the thread. Hopefully that makes the overpowered cards a little less overpowered haha :) I'm a little unclear on the different kinds of 'once per turn effects'. Is "once, and only once..." a hard once per turn? Pommelo
Just now, ClemsContent said: Thanks again! I've updated the thread. Hopefully that makes the overpowered cards a little less overpowered, and the underwhelming ones hit a bit harder haha :) I'm a little unclear on the different kinds of 'once per turn effects'. Is "once, and only once..." a hard once per turn? Ok, lemme help you with that. They're many clauses indeed. - The typical one is "Once per turn". If you see that, you can use the effect once per turn (evidently), but each card with that effect can activate it once per turn while it remains in its current place (the field, the hand, the GY). If you could return a face-up card on the field (who already activated its effect) to the hand, AND return it to the field, you COULD activate that Once per turn effect again. - You can only use each effect of "Clems Content" once per turn. This is a HOPT (Hard once per turn). Since it specifies the card's name, that means copies of that card cannot activate that same effect, unlike the previous mild "once per turn". Every effect in the card can be activated opt. - You can only use this effect of "Clems Content" once per turn. Applies only for the effect just before this clause - You can only use 1 "Clems Content" effect per turn, and only once during that turn. This one is also called super HOPT. It will only let you activate 1 of the card's effects per turn, and other copies can't activate their effects at all. And well, there are many variations, like "Once during your opponent's turn", or "Once per Duel", but the basics are these.
ClemsContent
Alrighty! I've updated to version III of these cards. Let me know if they're still a bit flawed. I implemented the wording changes to Eiocha, as suggested by ITSUKOSOADA, and it made it a bit more tidy. I updated Seafoam Berries to be continuous, as in the myth, the berries didn't run out; they just didn't have much use for them after the primordial gods had been born (but it would still need a Beast to target, and could only be used once per turn). SFBs also has a clause to add 1 continuous spell card to your hand when it's activated now, to help bring out Limbs of Bark ASAP. I put a HOPT clause into Limbs of Bark, and up'd the LP cost to Level x400, to make it more fair. In answer to ITSUKOSOADA's question about treating other cards' names as "Seafoam Giant": not exactly, but there will be a family of cards around them with the same type. The Seafoam Giants were the ancestors of another evil species called the 'Fomorians'. So there are more celt fiends to come haha! I'm getting mixed signals on Tethra, with Rayfield thinking it could be a bit tougher, and ITSUKO thinking there's a FTK to be had with that card. I can see the point that it's wimpy for a Level 6 monster. But underpowered stats for Level is a bit of theme of the archetype, and there will be some advantages to that in combos with other cards. Since there is a bit of a swarm element to this deck, there would have been potential for Tethra-burn to become the sole strategy, so I've changed the effect to have Tethra shuffled back into the deck, thus removing its own Level for the total. Hope this version is a bit closer to being playable!

And I say thanks because some people simply disregard and feel like one's attacking their creations when the actual intention is to help n.n. Yeah, the newer version looks nice, good work. There's something else I haven't noticed before, and that's Tethra being a Level 6 monster with 400/400. I believe you can increase the stats of this card quite a bit, and for the effect, since you're leaving your field empty, I daresay it's fair to add an effect that let's you draw 1 card, or Special Summon 1 Eiocha, for a fun cycle here. Eiocha turned into seafoam which in turned turned into the goddess Tethra, but it also says Eiocha was born from Seafoam, which can be interpreted as the aftermath of Tethra returning to your Deck. Just an idea. Fun Fact: Ahem... it's.... ITSUKOSOADO, not ITSUKOSOADA.... lmao. No, I'm not making fun of you, I'm laughing because Itsu is my friend and this is fun. Don't get angry, Itsuuuuu xD. Good to know haha :) I don't mind the suggestions at all. It's all to help improve the cards, so I greatly appreciate the help. I toughened up Tethra some, with some stats closer to a usual Level 6, and a draw effect. Would version IV of these cards be playable in a deck? The effects are now relatively balanced, which is what we've been working on, but they don't have to much cohesion... they're different types, different levels so no Xyz by themselves, none is Tuner to go for Synchros, 1 Summons Level 6- monsters, the other Summons Fiends, and though they have a relation, if one piece is missing, the whole strategy becomes harder to pull. I think that as standalone cards (or perhaps two or three, but not them all in one deck) can be rather useful in the appropriate Deck n.n

Tethra's effect seems to go for game or leave you helpless, it is such an advanced burn card and high risk it is hard to say what is balanced. In Japanese, koitsu, soitsu, aitsu, doitsu こいつ, そいつ, あいつ, どいつ mean "this one," "that one (near you)," "that one (far from us)," "which one?" They're kosoado words that refer to individual items, and, sometimes, to people. The name is based off the first archetype I tried to add to! 5 hours ago, ClemsContent said: Good to know haha :) I don't mind the suggestions at all. I was thinking 3 rank sevens, that treat all seafoam monsters as level 7, 1 of each type (fiend, fairy, beast), and gain effects based off the original levels of the monsters used/ original type/ and just a water XYZ. In addition some link monsters would be nice or Fusion without polymerization that can happen while you have a continuous spell!
