The Highlander
This is out of nowhere, well I guess this means the default answer for "What is the worst idea ever printed that involves Synchros" is no longer Majestics. Stardust Synchron is amazing, being able to search the entire Spell/Trap line-up (especially The Coming of a Miracle), while being searchable by Tuning, Stardust Illumination and Foolish Burial (extending the effective copies to 10). Majestic Mirage also looks decent, given that it can allow the new Shooting Majestic Star Dragon to negate up to 2 cards per turn and in terms of the original Majestic Star Dragon to actually return to the field (and possibly negate twice). On paper the easiest combo would be to summon Stardust Synchron with its effect, then Stardust Trail with her effect, to then search The Coming of a Miracle with Stardust Synchron, use The Coming of a Miracle to place Dragon of Gathering Wishes on top of the players deck, summon Stardust Dragon with the 2 level 4s, draw Dragon of Gathering Wishes and use it to summon a level 1 Dragon, such as Omni Dragon Brotaur, (and 1 Token from Trail) and then play Shooting Majestic Star Dragon. I wonder if the recent Zexal Weapon support and now Majestic Dragon support mean that we can expect similar support for the mechanics of other protagonists (like Odd-Eyes Wing Dragon, Odd-Eyes Venom Dragon and Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon). Edit: Dragon of Gathering Wishes summoning Black Metal Dragon to search Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon would also be a decent consideration. Edit2: Interesting options for Brotaur would include Wyverbuster, Collapserpent, Galaxy Soldier, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, Levianeer, Chaos Emperor (both the Pendulum and non-Pendulum form) and Dark Armed Dragon. Edit3: With Dragon Shrine there are also a decent number of ways to draw into Stardust Trail. The main question, which remains concerns what one intends to tribute for Stardust Synchron. Edit4: Another option for the above mentioned play with Stardust Synchron + Stardust Trail + Tribute would be to summon a Tuner via Dragon of Gathering Wishes, using it and the token for Formula Synchron, then Formula + Stardust for Shooting Star Dragon and then Dragon of Gathering Wishes + Shooting Star Dragon for Shooting Majestic Star Dragon (not getting the benefits of something like Brotaur and requiring 2 more ED slots, however getting an additional draw and 3 attacks on Shooting Majestic Star Dragon). Phantom Roxas
I was expecting this pack to give us a new Majestic from the name alone, even knowing that it's "Savior" in Japanese, but I still wasn't expecting Shooting Majestic Star Dragon. I appreciate that Majestic Star Dragon finally has its own Neo Space, and it's phrased in a way that prevents the opponent from bouncing your monsters. Not sure how often your opponent would try that, but it offers just a little extra protection that's fairly nice. Should note that YGOrganization has a better translation of SMSD's effect, which I think completely changes our understanding of it, and arguably for the better. “Majestic Dragon” + 1+ non-Tuner monsters, including a Dragon Synchro Monster Must first be Synchro Summoned. (1) Once per turn: You can negate the effects of 1 Effect Monster your opponent controls. (2) For each “Stardust Dragon” and each Synchro Monster that specifically lists that card in its text in your GY, this card can make 1 additional attack during each Battle Phase. (3) Once per turn, when your opponent activates a card or effect (Quick Effect): You can banish this card (until the End Phase), and if you do, negate the activation, and if you do that, banish that card. I think the only difference that makes is that it would include Shooting Star and Majestic, but it's still nice. I mostly appreciate this support because it reconciles some of the various upgrades Stardust has had over the years.
