  • Dokutah changed the title to Abhyss from Deck Build Pack: Ancient Guardians | snake rain your way into seizing the means of resurrection!

So, if I got this right, you want to get King and Queen out ASAP, so your other monster effects stop being a benefit to your opponent. [...]

To be fair Zoha and Phlogi are neutral in terms of being a benefit, while the revival from Curse is neglectable, given that without targets the opponent gets nothing and even if a monster can be summoned its effects will be negated.

Hmm, seems like this deck will be running triple Allure, Trade-In, and Snake Rain... I think.

Good idea, I overlooked Trade-in, which is quite consistent with 4 different maindeck level 8s, although Ash can still hurt.

Further considerations would propably also include Pot of Extravagance, as well as Pot of Prosperity.

Beyond that Sky Striker Mecha - Hornet Drones + Kagari, as well as Collapserpent + Wyverbuster are solid 1 card double tributes for the revival effects (and Phantom Skyblaster might be a consideration as well, given that it can be used as 2-3 tributes).

Mask Change II also has some synergy, given that half of the monsters are DARK attribute and as such can be used to summon Dark Law, which doubles on the work of Aron, allowing Zoha to search + mill any Abhyss + forcing the opponent to draw 1 card and then banish 3 cards from their hand.

Card Destruction, Performapal Popperup, Chaos Space and The Dark Creator should also have synergy with the archetype, especially with the existence of Snake Rain.

One could also run a Reptilianne engine with Lamia, Hydra and Spawn (for additional token generation for revival laddering, while being able to mill Lamia if she is not drawn, either by Null or Snake Rain).

Furthermore Vyper's Rebirth might be a very cheap revival tool if one runs no non-reptiles and the ability to quickly get out 2 Level 8 monsters means that the archetype has access to the numerous negation tools offered by Rank 8s, as well as the Galaxy-Eyes line-up.

Edit: The access to Alien Shocktrooper M-Frame and Reptilianne Echidna (the Link 2 reptiles) could be decent for recovery and has further synergy with Reptilianne Lamia, in case of Echidna.

I'm trying to figure out the benefit of milling Lamia here, aside from being a body to use Spawn on.

Anyways, the other stuff are fairly solid ideas really, though I think using Mask Change II might be pushing it a little in terms of techs, though I guess this deck could afford it simply because it's not ED heavy.

My point with being able to consistently mill Lamia was that one could make an argument that Spawn should be consistent enough to consider (although I would still say options like Wyverbuster are superior).

The point with Mask Change II is that Dark Law synergizes well with Aron, King of the Abhyss and it being easily triggered by Zoha, Haze of the Abhyss during the own turn (and possibly with Call of the Haunted or something like that during the opponent's turn) means that it can snipe up to 2 more cards out of the opponent's hand.

With Dark Law + Aron one could make the cards the opponent has to discard banishes and force the opponent to go (-2) in hand advantage with each time Zoha is triggered and then possibly (-4) before they can start playing, while the one-sided macro cosmos is also nasty interruption.

You make a pretty good point there. Also, I just remembered that King of the Feral Imps exists, so SSing Null using its effect then making King will let you dodge Null's banish effect, while also getting a search off of King. In fact, you could NS Nihil and SS Kagetokage while still searching with Nihil. Then you can make King and Search Null or any other Reptile you want like Lamia, completely negating the 2 card loss while having a decent body on the field.

So while diddling around with potential options for this card, I came across a generic level 6 synchro called Altergeist Dragvirion with an effect that can OPT SS itself from the GY if it gets tributed and sent to the GY. Given Reptilianne Lamia it could be a potential level 6 option alongside Reptilianne Hydra, while also being a far more suitable first turn option.

EDIT: I also considered that, instead of using Wyv-Collapse and Hornet Drones cause they're all limited, what about using 3 A Hero Lives and 1-2 Shadow Mist? It gets you a free body, and you search out Mask Change II at the same time. Granted, it's not always live like Wyv-Collapse but at the same time you can use them for discard fodder when needed.

EDIT2: Nevermind, AHL is limited. Also, I think the Sky Striker stuff may be too useful as Mecha Hornet Drone's token cannot be tributed, so you'd only be using Kagari as a body.

Y'know, I just realized something here. Wouldn't Dark Law conflict with all of the Abhyss cards, since they specify sending cards your opponent controls to the GY. So because Dark Law causes cards to be banished instead, doesn't that mean their effects can't resolve because the target won't be able to reach the GY? Or am I overthinking this?

That is true.

Although I have to say that I would currently say that a list more resembling the list used by Ygopro 3laa looks like the way to go, using Hieratics (to float into the level 8 Tuner Dragon Core Hexer) to access Ultimil Bishbaalkin, followed by using the token for Reprodocus into the 2 reptile Link 2s (Alien Shocktrooper M-Frame and Reptilianne Echidna) to first search 4-5 reptiles (including Danger Tsuchinoko as an extender) and then using Unchained Abomination to pop Shocktrooper to float into 4-5 high level Abhyss monsters (like Ogdoabhyss).

As much as I hate having dragons be involved... that is still pretty damn clever making use of Bishbalkin and Echidna. Imagine being able to insert Reptilianne Hydra into the combo somehow.

EDIT: Welp, it's not just Hieratics people are using, as someone managed to find ways to squeeze Union Carrier into the combo. More than that, there's even a Lair of Darkness variant:

You could with Proxy F Magician or Armillyre, The Starleader Dragon (and many more ED spots).

That being said, Hydra, while giving advantage, contradicts Shocktrooper and its massive revival effect  (although one could make an argument for Reptilianne Vaskii).

Edit: Noteworthy could also be that Reptilianne Echidna can search Performapal Swincobra, Performapal Partnaga and Performapal Lizardraw, which could be used to pendulum summon using the other 2-3 searches (and afterwards one can pop Lizardraw for an additional draw). Although I cannot think of any possible uses for that right now.

Actually, I saw variations of the Bishbalkiin combo that managed to pop Shocktrooper during the turn, bringing out 3 big ones, but also Nihil and Reptilianne Lamia, getting a search from Nihil and then making Hydra to pop the opponent's tokens. It's janky, but feasible.

There's also, interestingly, a variant that uses Scraps as a starting play.
