Can we unbanned pot of greed now?

Recommended Posts

Absolutely not.

Even if there are more ridiculous plays in the current game, Pot of Greed is not an alternative path, it just leads into them, makes them more consistent, makes the game more binary by giving the player drawing it a free +1 and is just by any standard by which you evaluate cards a card that by construction should never be legal, no matter how much powercreep happens.

"Can we unbanned PoG?"
Not with your grammar (the "ned" is not necessary). Also it's a NO in general on the grounds it's a +1 with no downside. I'm pretty sure Konami flushed the key to its jail cell down the toilet and I for one wouldn't want a card that any deck can use to gain more advantage to be freed.

is there any point to further discussing this?

if the only reasoning is "Pot of Greed" is weaker compare to other cards then sorry, your advantage math is way off. Konami actually (thankfully) quite conservative about the mathematical advantage even on the latest card that seemingly "better". you need to understand that Pot of Greed at vacuum is a +1 (Draw [+2] - the usage of the pot [-1] thus +2 + -1= +1) compare that to lets say Saryuuja that seems better with its draw 4 shuffle 3 but its actually still a +1 (if the 4 - 3 is not obvious enough) if we not count the minuses of effort use to summoning it. from that perspective if you actually see all of these "better than the pot" cards, you start seeing that its very rare of them go beyond +1 unless in specific scenario that even then rarely involved in a meta. in fact the card is probably trash and unplayable outside those scenario in the first place (example: Memories of Hope, Sekka Lights)

also you need to be reminded that this game mechanically is VASTLY different than MTG (yes the comparative is deliberate) in MTG they get away with draw 3 or more with cheap cost because not all card you draw is immediately useful. heck, the resource system is a brick by itself even if you can make the most streamlined deck. in yugioh when every card is "active" the moment it lands on your hand and for the most part has no need for resource investment means that the streamlined deck actually will exploding advantage in every draw/search they make no matter how little the number of card they fetch

TL;DR, unless konami reboot this game to be as resource management heavy and as (ironically) potentialy brick as MTG which go against all the good things that the IP offer to the world of TCG design and betray all its fans, the pot will never be unbanned. not all games has to be a copy of MTG to succeed (which is irony since its suppose to be MTG parody in the first place) and for all its flaws Yugioh still the big boys in the industries
