Official Sprite Rating

Ever wanted to get a great opinion on your sprite from a person who doesn't go "OMFG 10/10 ITZ AWSUM!!1", me too.

I'm here to officially rate and help those who need actual ratings from a person who's done much Spriting.

I rate from 1/5, or 1/10 if you need way more specific information.

I will rate anything that has to do with Spriting, from Recolors to Mass Fusions, and more.

This is free, so don't feel like you have to pay for it.

You can give me reps if you'd like, or points, but they're not necessary.

Anyways, all you have to do is post the sprite and what number rating you want me to rate to.

If you'd like to have a job here rating sprites, PM me.

 

Rules:

1. Up to two sprites per post.

2. No more than four posts of sprites until I finish the others.

3. I will not let personal problems affect the way I rate.

4. I am harsh.

5. I tell the truth.

6. I don't like Pie.

7. I will accept Reps and Points if you wish to give.

8. Re-read #6.

9. You must include the wordoffrocious in your post for it to be recognized, and to let me know that you read the rules.

10. Those who don't read the rules don't get ratings, just ignored.

11. If you post and I haven't gotten to rate it yet, PM me.

I sorta of wish I knew what "offrocious" meant, or if it is even a work, than I could at least have used it properly in a sentence. Well since you didn't say anything really about posting about the sprites, I'll leave the description to a minimal. I would also like these to be rated on the 1/10 scale.

 

A hulk sprite I did for a friend under their request. Please only count this as one, the fact that there are two are only because I couldn't decide between colors, you can ignore the one of the left.

 

This is a Metaknight sprite I did in my free time. It's one of the few sprites I've done that are actually small.

A hulk sprite I did for a friend under their request. Please only count this as one, the fact that there are two are only because I couldn't decide between colors, you can ignore the one of the left.

The muscles are too thick. It's left arm is shorter than the right, which should be the other way around considering the Sprite is facing that way. The left leg/foot is a little too long, and doesn't match the right. There's no indent on the arm when it combines with it's side, making it look like it's attatched like that, therefor unable to be moved. The fists look deformed. He has no lower set of teeth. The left side of his shorts are shorter than the right. His abs indent.

 

Overall; 4/10

This is a Metaknight sprite I did in my free time. It's one of the few sprites I've done that are actually small.

Too small for alot of detail, but since you said it's made like that, I won't sub. the points. Glowing bright yellow, hardly any shading, feet look diformed, and the back of the head looks awkward.

Head: Vespiquen's head (With the sides of the head removed).

Wings: Vespiquen's wings

Upper body/Arms: Blaziken's body/arms

Hands/Claws: Armaldo's Claws

Visible leg: Hitmonlee's leg

Feet: Paras's claws

 

All recolored to Vespiquen's colors. offrocious

It's too small. Not much shading. Too frontal. Bunch of Copy&Paste. Middle Diamond is off-centered.

Thank you a load for the critique. A lot of the points I found very valid and I accept your score. Then only issue is on the Hulk sprite you mentioned the muscles being too thick and the shorts being different length. The muscles are huge because it's the Hulk, a guy made of nothing but muscle practically. I possibly even made him a little too little muscular. As for the shorts, they aren't suppose to be same length, when the Hulk goes Hulk, his clothes are torn, hence the different length, they aren't suppose to be.

 

Also sprites are generally small actually. It does depend on the subject. Sprites though come from games, so if you look at game sprites, like Pokemon, and thing like Megaman, the sprites half the time take up a 80X80 pixel area. Of course some sprites exceed this, and things like backgrounds in games too. So it depends on what a sprite is suppose to be sized for deciding its size. I don't necessarily mean to bash your way of critique, just meaning to critique your critiquing I suppose.

When I say too thick, look at his ankles and wrists for example, how would he possible be able to move them with the thickness of the muscle around it?

Like I said, you made it small. Normally sprites like Metaknight and Kirby are usually a tad bigger, but small ones generally work in the sense that they're not meant to be too descriptive.
