From my observation most low level monsters are just tribute fodder (for now), so this being able to contribute 2 tributes later in the game is better than most vanillas and pseudo vanillas (in fact this is the only non-tribute +1 monster (unless I forget something). The only downside I see with this is the type being undersupported (as of now), while Spellcaster seems like the best type (at the moment).
