A'ight, so here's a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure story for YCM. Anyone can post here. Just choose your option.

Glossary:

-Segment: A section of text explaining the section.

-Choice: The selection of options at the end of each segment.

-Option: A single pathway the story can take that's presented in a choice.

-FATALITY: A choice in which one or more option(s) leads to the end of the CYOA. You can choose to restart if you select the fatal option.

-Dialogue: A choice in which you choose what Mike says. Usually used in diplomatic situations, wrong turns can be dangerous, and often lead to a FATALITY or battle.

-Battle: A choice in which you command troops. This is wholly open-ended, and makes use of a grid system akin to Fire Emblem. Usually used when you assume control of someone other than Mike (Link J. Xalax, Marth d'Altéa, etc.)

-BOSS: A choice in which you battle a single enemy. This is wholly open-ended. Be careful, as if you come up with a detailed string of attacks, the boss can interrupt it.

Segment I

The story began on the last day of school, at a quaint little house on the outskirts of town. A confident sixteen-year-old boy strolled into the home in a leisurely manner, laying down his bag for the last time and walking relaxedly to a table in the middle of a nearby carpeted room.

"Whatcha doin', Mike?" a younger, dark-haired girl asked amiably. She was seated at a desk nearby, browsing the Internet on an IMac G4 desktop computer.

"Eh, no idea, Pretta," Michael Retton told his sister lazily. "Nothing to do."

"I thought you were going down to the creek in, what, two minutes?" Pretta reminded, checking her watch.

A cold stone fell into Mike's stomach. It was true: he and his enormous number of friends were to assemble by the old creek in just two minutes. He remembered the shortcut. That would get him there on time! On the other hand, he'd have to find the gate.

FATALITY Alpha:

1. Take the shortcut.

2. Try going the normal way.

Mike mounted his bicycle and began to pedal. He was there six minutes late -- but he only found yellow tape. The creek had been replaced by an enormous abyss that was even now spewing white smoke. Sighing, he returned home.

Segment II

Mike found the gate quickly and easily. Best of all, it was unlocked. Barging through, he began to pedal his bike, faster and faster down the trail...

Suddenly, his bike flipped over. The whole world around Mike was nothing but white smoke. Miraculously, he was able to avoid hitting the bike after his surprisingly short ten-foot drop. Looking around, the boy found himself in a large ravine - wide and long, but not very deep.

CHOICE Alpha-1:

1. Explore the ravine.

2. Climb out.

3. Scream for help.

4. Try and dig your way out.

Looking around the ravine to the extent he could, Mike noted the black soil and flat, rocky ground. The chasm was about ten feet high, and the walls were rugged, so it would be easy to climb out. Mike couldn't see the end of one side, but the others were clearly defined.

Suddenly, as Mike was looking up, what looked like a dusty cannonball shot over the abyss, something resembling blood coating the bottom. A massive boom followed a second later.

Choice Alpha-2:

1. Climb out to investigate the cannonball.

2. Hide in the abyss.

3. Pedal down the length of the abyss.

Terrified, Mike began to pedal down the length of the abyss, desperate to get away from whatever battle was going on. However, he was immediately confronted by a black, lizard-like creature. Stretching its bat-like wings, the dark dragon began to spew flames. Stopping his bike, Mike glanced around, mortified. Several large rocks were nearby - could he take cover? Or would it be safer to turn around and try and outrun the dragon?

CHOICE Alpha-3:

1. Pedal back the way you came.

2. Try and find cover.

Leaving the bicycle at the dragon's mercy, Mike dove behind the nearby rocks, breathing hard. He was certain the dragon would find him soon, but he was equally certain that the beast's flames couldn't melt rock.

Suddenly, the dragon was disoriented and bleeding, as though it had been struck by a flying buzzsaw. A zip was heard a moment later. And on the ground, staring at the reptilian fiend, was a blue figure he'd only seen in video games.

CHOICE Alpha-4:

1. Throw a rock at the dragon to help Sonic.

2. Try and retrieve your bicycle while Sonic occupies the dragon.

3. Try and escape the dragon while Sonic occupies it.

Realizing that he was no help to the legendary hedgehog, Mike began to flee the area. However, he hesitated when he heard Sonic begin to exchange irritated banter with the dragon.

"You're supposed to die when you die, cheapass!" the blue blur barked impatiently. "I have things to do; forget this!"

That doesn't sound like the Sonic I know, Mike thought, thoroughly confused. What could have changed the supersonic wonder into a snappy, impatient, efficient warrior like he was now? It occurred to him that maybe the developers weren't entirely accurate in their portrayal of the hedgehog.

Suddenly, another dragon entered the abyss. It didn't attack; rather, it seemed to be trying to communicate with the first one.

CHOICE Alpha-5:

1. Tell Sonic to let the dragons converse.

2. Don't interfere and watch.

3. Don't interfere, but try to escape.

Mike began to run away, taking advantage of the drakes' distraction. However, they soon took off, one still bleeding from Sonic's surprise attack.

CHOICE Alpha-6:

1. Run away.

2. Try and find out more about Sonic.

3. Try and find out where the drakes went.

Curious, Mike approached Sonic with relative caution. He stopped immediately at the hedgehog's icy glare.

"Who are you?" the cobalt being snapped at the approaching human.

"I... You're... Well, I'm Mike. I know you, but... I don't..."

He seemed to have peaked the anthro's interest. "You know me?" he inquired far less severely.

"Well, yes and no..." He racked his thoughts, and then stumbled across one of the biggest brain waves he'd ever had. "...I know your past, I bet," he breathed.

"...What?" Sonic seemed stupefied. Suddenly, an acidic green vortex appeared from nowhere. Sonic tensed and glanced at Mike somewhat protectively.

CHOICE Alpha-7:

1. Tell Sonic to run.

2. Tell Sonic to stay.

"Let's get out of here!" Mike told Sonic, who immediately prepared to take off. However, the figure that emerged from the portal was far from villainous.

"Geez. I'm not your average ghost," Danny Phantom grumbled as he closed the portal. "I came here tracking those drakes. They've been terrorizing Hypernova for some time now."

CHOICE Alpha-8:

1. Ask Danny about Hypernova.

2. Ask Danny about the drakes.

3. Ask Danny about recent events.

"These drakes have been attacking elsewhere?" Mike asked his ghostly peer, intrigued.

"You bet," Danny sighed. "Almost as busy as I used to be. They're all over the place. I've managed to find out quite a bit about them." He looked Mike over curiously. "You seem like the heroic type," he decided. "I could tell you."

CHOICE Alpha-9:

1. Ask Danny about the drake attacks.

2. Ask Danny if the drakes have weaknesses.

3. Ask Danny if there's any way you can fight the drakes.
