Star Ratings.

I Think That YCMaker Shpuld Change The Star Titles If Possible.

I Suggest Like This...

[spoiler=My Ratings]

0-99= 1 Star

100-299= 2 Star

300-499= 3 Star

500-999= 4 Star

1000-4999= 5 Star

5000 And Above= 6 Star

My Resoning For This Is That it only takes twenty five stars to become a full member and then everyone thinks your ok and responsible.

Well.......Theyre not at least 3/4 of the newb who are two stars are spammers and if they dont stop spamming by 100 posts then they should be banned anyway i just want feedback on this nothing serious.

I agree completely with this one for whatever the opinion of a lowly 2 star is worth. Personally, forum ranking systems that are based on post counts are, IMHO, a complete waste of time and are, for the most part, pointless. Course it has little effect on me, personally, since I don't make a ton of posts. Just means if you raise the bar I'll be able to enter newbie only contests from here until the end of time and will have to hope that my past victories and submissions are good enough for me to weasel my way into the higher level contests. ;)

If I might make a better suggestion, either adjust the furm ranking system or leave it alone because it doesn't really matter. Go into the forum setting and just create 1 or 2 new User Groups. The 1st would be a VIP group of those members who are easily recognized as being good contributors to the betterment of the forum. Once you're promoted the easy 20 or so people who obvioulsy deserve this title to that rank then you can create a hidden forum for them to make proposals and nominations for those members whom they feel are deserving(final word to the Mods on this, of course). Then, after a few months when you feel you've promoted the deserving...create the second group. On my forum we call these people "Premium Members." A Premium Member can still see the VIP Hidden Forum...but they can also see their own hidden forum as well. The Premium Members(PMs) represent the best members your forum has to offer that aren't already Mods/Admins. so they're obviously less of them and it's a big deal when you promote one(make an announcement when this happens). Over the years we've converted the Premium Members to a kind of "Mini-Mod Task Force" which has minor forum abilities to cover for those times when there are not Mods or Admins around. not only do the PMs lighten the workload of the Mods/Admins by helping out with some of the lighter things like Spam, Stupidity, and PMing newbies(not n00bs) with helpful hints on how to become productive members of the forum...they're also an easy candidate pool to draw from when selecting Mods.

When you have a system like this in place the forum rankings are still cute...but the real titles of prestige and accomplishment A) have no post count based requirements and B) are truly earned by those who attain those ranks. In using this type of system we've seen that those who earn the rank appreciate it more and are actually respected by the lower ranking members. It also give the lower ranking members something to strive for and works as a nice incentive for good behavior.

Ok, I think I've rambled on long enough here. If I didn't provide enough details then either post here or shoot me a PM. I would be more than happy to further explain how our system works if you all think it's something worth attempting. ;)

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.

100-299 posts for 2 STARS?!

Come on.

Listen, I am not a spammer or anything, I joined November of 2007, I am an active participant, and I am on probably one hour a day 5 days a week.

Alas, I have only gotten two stars.

I think the star system is okay the way it is, and besides, There are other ways of telling if a user is "spammish."

We use the reputation system, and if a person spams, neg reps start popping up, and respect for the user dwindles.

Therefore, we can tell if the user is a nice guy, or just a jerk.

I am not criticizing your opinion, it is just that I wanted to voice my opinion.

Thank you. :]

kizzi, madchurro you are absolutely [spoiler= Click Here To See What You Are]CORRECT!

This system is great and anyone asking for a new system should think about it. The majority of members from the old system would have their ranks stuffed up and for what? For two members who think that the time put into editing a site is nothing because they just want something? Besides I made a Poll saying "Do you respect a member if..." And out of 2 options (They have alot of Stars/Posts or The time they have been here as well as activity) and it was the time option that won. So who gives about stars and stuff when your activity and helpfulness will help you much ,much more. Once again madchurro is right about the reps. You wanna be respected? Then just be helpful and earn reputation points but don't get corrupt *cough*Johanderson*cough* and stuff up. Once again no need to change the system the current one is fine.

Your assumption is incorrect on multiple levels to be perfectly honest. I'm actually a forum admin on a site that's roughly in this size range and I've had to deal with the problems that some people are complaining about here in the past on my own forum. I merely stated my own observations about the pointlessness of a widely used forum ranking system and offered an alternate solution which has yielded positive results. I didn't just make this up, "because I want something." If my suggestion is completely ignored by the people who actually count in a decision like this then that's fine with me. In my attempt to be a positively contributing member to this particular forum I merely offered up a solution. I have no deeper ulterior motive in this action nor do I harbor any ambitions to be more than a productive member of this forum. The fact that I have the experience in this field and the knowledge of day-to-day forum operations means that I am, at least in this point, more than qualified to offer up such an opinion. I would ask that you please consider that before you make any generalizing assumptions that are not based on fact in the future. angel.gif

i think there should be more stars in the whole forum because there are loads of 5 star people who have posted thousands of times and still only have 5.
