gmaster1991
Fortress of Dark Illusions1 Fiend monster, except a TokenIf this card is Link Summoned: You can activate 1 "Lair of Darkness" from your Deck, also you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn. Cannot be used as a Link Material. Your opponent cannot Tribute this face-up card and the card it points to. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 DARK monster; cards you currently control cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects for the rest of this turn, also neither player takes any battle damage. Grim Reaper of the Cards2 Fiend monsters, except TokensIf you were Tribute a DARK monster to activate a card effect while you control "Lair of Darkness", you can Tribute 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls instead. (You can only Tribute 1 card your opponent controls with the effect of "Lair of Darkness" each turn.) Cannot be used as a Link Material. Your opponent cannot Tribute this face-up card and cards it points to. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 DARK monster and target 1 monster in your opponent's GY; banish it. King of Yamimakai, Ruler of the Lair2+ Fiend monsters, except TokensIf you control "Lair of Darkness", all monsters in the GYs become DARK. Cannot be used as a Link Material. Your opponent cannot Tribute this face-up card and cards it points to. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 DARK monster; change all face-up monsters your opponent controls to face-down Defense Position, also all DARK monsters in your opponent's possession cannot activate their effects for the rest of this turn. They're basically Lair support. Lair Decks are usually inconsistent and necessitate a hybrid Deck to make full use of its strengths. The Fortress of Dark Illusions alone makes the Deck much more consistent by searching out and protecting Lair of Darkness with literally any Fiend monster, while the other two empower the Lair with new abilities. The art for any of the cards are not mine.
TheTrueSaiyan
Fortress of Dark Illusions is just perfect Lair Infernoid support. Summon Tour guide, Summon Rhino, Link TG for this, activate lair, link Rhino for this, send an Infernoid with it. You now have 2 tribute fodders for their banish effects, which can even tribute themselves for a nice protection effect, and Lair on the field. Grim Reaper of the Cards is cool, I'm biased in the sense I'm looking at this in terms of Infernoid support, but the last effect is just a worse Infernoid banish. that said, tributing Spell and traps would be interesting depending on the matchup I thought that King of Yamimakai, Ruler of the Lair was decent until the last part of its effect. Dark attribute in GY doesn't do much (outside its own effect which I'll get back to), the tribute protection is only relevant in the mirror and Kajius, and changing to face down isn't terrible as we've seen with Guru but doesn't do much against links. All fine, certainly a decent effect for a link 3, has disruption and nice materials. However, being unable to activate DARK monsters in your possession? That's broke, like VFD or ZEXAL level of broke, and he is far easier to bring out than them. He doesn't even need this effect, he is good enough without it. You are stacking too much disruption in a deck that already has more than enough, the simple flip face down is fair and effective enough and you should probably leave it at that. So, less VFD and more... Ultimate Tyranno? What if it could attack everything once each instead?
