Ryusei the Morning Star
https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-administration-is-considering-substantial-afghan-troop-drawdown-11545341452 Plans are there for a complete pull out, this is following the troop pull out in Syria. He campaigned as a FPOL dove, and he's pretty much living up to it (thank god, neocon wars have done no good)
vla1ne
This frees up a lot of budged for other things, while bringing back our troops. All around good stuffs.
Dad
Is it stable?
vla1ne
Is it stable?Likely not, but at this point, it's best just to leave it be. Our interference (millitary wise) is not going to make things better at this point. helping them in other ways, like trade deals, would be the better look imo. Dad
So... Won't that just result in Daesh 2.0? I want our boys home too. But is the job done?
vla1ne
Apparently we're bringing the troops back, but we're keeping the intel agents over there, and a couple drones to boot. So we aren't pulling out 100 percent. Just removing the overt military, and trying to let them heal up on their own.
Dad
Okay. I misunderstood. Thanks.
Ryusei the Morning Star
We've taken back every city they possess. Yes there are Daesh agents mixed in with the citizens but short of genocide how do you propose we kill every last one?
Dad
I think we should have very small bases off operations to remain live to keep things under control. Pulling out while we have this kind of pressure seems risky. We keep destabilizing places overseas then leaving them, causing an uprising of a new terrorist group. Then whoever's president when the regime is pulled will be blamed for "rise of terrorist group x". We'll send more troops over to deal with the enemy then repeat the cycle. We need to see this through.

We need to see this through. Why? Assad Russia and the rest are more than capable. We've spilt enough American blood for foreign landsThe only wars we should enter, are the ones of annihilation, where we put down an entire country, or no wars at all. When we kill a father, we create a vengeful son. Your options are either to kill the son, the wife, the grandparents, or none at all
vla1ne
please keep in mind, we are leaving agents over to monitor, and a few drones if swift action is needed. rooting out the problem 100% is not possible, and at some point we do have to let the people themselves rebuild their country on their own or we'll be there forever. you're both right, we should be fixing problems we helped create, and we cannot remoe every single negative influence, but what we seem to hae done is remoed the brute force portion, and left the intelligence portion. that seems to me like it would be the best solution to both problems. keeping an eye out, capable of swift action as needed, but reducing the influence so that they don't become reliant on us to rebuild.
