Caroler Archetype [WRITTEN]

Hello, fine peoples!

 

A bit early for the theme, but I'm in the mood now dammit!

 

Anyways, this is pretty much a combination of an old idea I'd had trying to make Zone placement matter combined with Melodious' old playstyle (if it had stuck to its roots and built on its whole "Special Summoning for monsters that are hard to get rid of").  WATER Attribute because winter/snow/ice, and a fairy type because angelic voices I guess.

 

It is a larger set (over 15 cards), but I tried to keep the effects short-ish.  The Zone stuff probably bumped up effect length needlessly, but...

 

Well, anyway, enough backdrop.  Let's get into the cards!

When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Caroler" monster from your hand or GY. Monsters you control in Zones to the left of this card cannot be destroyed by card effects. Monsters you control in Zones to the right of this card cannot be destroyed by battle.

If you control a "Caroler" monster: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. While this card is in the leftmost or rightmost Main Monster Zone: "Caroler" monsters you control cannot be targeted by monster effects your opponent controls. All "Caroler" monsters you control gain 300 ATK/DEF.

If this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Caroler" card: You can Special Summon 1 "Caroler" monster from your Deck except "Caroler Minor Vocalist". If this monster is adjacent to another "Caroler" monster you control: "Caroler" monsters are unaffected by Spell effects your opponent controls that activate in the same column as a "Caroler" monster you control.

If this monster is adjacent to another "Caroler" monster you control: "Caroler" monsters are unaffected by Trap effects your opponent controls that activate in the same column as a "Caroler" monster you control.

All "Caroler" monsters you control gain 100 ATK/DEF for each Special Summoned "Caroler" monster you control.

When this card is Normal Summoned to a Main Monster zone that has a column with an Extra Monster Zone, activate the appropriate effect:
- If this is in your left Main Monster Zone: Add 1 "Caroler" monster from your Deck to your hand.
- If this is in your right Main Monster Zone: Add 1 "Caroler" Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand.
If you control a "Caroler" monster in an adjacent Main Monster Zone, this card and that card(s) gain 300 DEF and cannot destroyed by card effects.

During either player's turn: You can discard this card; until the End Phase, if a "Caroler" monster battles a monster in the same column as a "Caroler" monster, destroy that opponent's monster at the start of damage calculation. During your Main Phase, you can banish this card from your GY and target 1 other "Caroler" card in your GY; add that target to your hand.

Continuous Spell
If you control no monsters in the same column as this card, Special Summon 1 "Caroler" monster from your Deck to your Zone in the same column as this card. You can only activate this effect of "Caroler's Gathering" once per turn. You cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck the turn you activate this effect.

Caroler's Carols
Spell
Target a number of cards on the field equal to the number of face-up Attack Position "Caroler" monsters you control; destroy them.

Caroler's Chord
Spell
Target 1 "Caroler" monster you control; Special Summon 2 monsters from your Deck with the same name as that target. You can only activate 1 "Caroler's Chord" per turn.

Caroler's Chorus
Trap
Your opponent cannot target "Caroler" monsters you control for attacks or card effects this turn. You can banish this card from your GY and target 1 "Caroler" monster you control; add a number of "Caroler" monsters from your Deck to your Deck to your hand up to the number of opponent cards in the same column as that target.

 

Caroler Rearrangement

Trap

You can move "Caroler" monsters you control to different Zones on your side of the field.  If 3 or more "Caroler" monsters change their Zones by this effect, you can draw 1 card.  Set this card instead of sending it to your GY.

 

 

 

 

I got a bit burned out by the time I got to Spells/Traps.  I wanted to make at least 1 more powerful removal card and maybe a Link or two, but, on the whole, the archetype feels pretty complete.

 

I'm actually considering tossing these up and trying 'em out on DB, so any wording/balance help would be much appreciated!
