Gravekeeper's Watcher

During either player's turn, when your opponent activates a Spell/Trap Card or monster effect that could make them discard when it resolves: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it.

Well I was searching through Gravekeeper's cards, and this is a card I've never seen or heard of before. Obviously, my first thought was "omg anti-danger handtrap!!!".

So yeah, I just thought it might be worth bringing it up here to see what people think of it. In my opinion, even if it's not worth it for regular decks, it might be an option for actual Gravekeeper's decks because you can search it with Necrovalley Throne, and stuff like that. Just keep in mind it conflicts with Card of Demise if you're playing that.

Gemini Imps has a better effect because it gives you 1 card draw, but in exchange it doesn't have a ROTA like Watcher does. Still, I think the only way these cards would see play is if the FTKs become a serious thing in the meta, otherwise it wouldn't be worth to side cards specifically for Dangers! & variants. Not to mention that AFAIK most Dangers, if not all of them, can already be negated by Ash, and I think even Belle, and stopped by Droll by locking the draw effects, although a downside is that they wouldn't destroy them.

Well, Gemini Imps only works against things that make you discard, such as Mothman, Dark World Dealings and Dragged Down to the Grave. Gravekeeper's Watcher can be used against any of the in-hand Danger! effects as well, making it much less specific. If Dark World Dealings and friends are used a lot then I can see it working, plus it would also be hilarious vs Topologic Gumblar Dragon and Moulinglacia the Elemental Lord. Infact I might just have to get some just for the chance of using it vs the Mermail player at locals, thanks for reminding me it was a card.

Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is useless vs the in-hand Danger! effects since it doesn't stop them from just activating it again, however it's probably still pretty good vs the deck as it can stop some of the if discarded effects such as Nessie and Jackalope.

Oh silly me, Watcher and Imp negate the opposite stuff, and did miss that the discard effects don't have the hard OPT. Still, with Ash, Droll, Belle, Gamma and other hand traps available, that can also disrupt other relevant decks, I see little reasons to side Watcher. Unless, again, the Danger! FTKs become a serious issue. Wouldn't hurt to keep this card in mind, though.

Danger FTK is very much a serious issue, being the best deck of the format and claiming the most tops at a major YCS without Summon Sorceress. Watcher can negate and destroy a Danger (as can Gamma) but that probably won't be enough. Droll, Reaper, Kuriphoton, and Hanewata are the best guarantors for survival, as all can be used before Azathot turns off hand traps. Impermanence gets under Azathot, but loses to Unicorn.
