Sleepy
Ascension CarpWATER Level 3 [ Fish / Tuner / Effect ] 200/1800(Quick Effect): You can discard this card to Tribute 1 monster with a Level; Special Summon 1 Fish monster from your hand, Deck, or GY in Defense Position with a Level equal to or lower than the total Level of this card and the Tribute on the field. If you Summon a Fish Normal Monster: You can add this card from your GY to your hand revealed, but if you do, banish it when sent to the GY. - - - Coelacanth consistency is the main purpose of this card. Any Level 4 Fish + this in hand = Coelacanth. Then if Coelacanth's effect brings out something like a Seven Colored Fish or Space Mambo, this adds itself back to the hand, and you can make a second Coelacanth with it. Without this card Coelacanth will leave you with itself + a Mistar Boy + Bahamut + Toadally Awesome, so it's not like it needs much help there.Though with this card, it can extend a little further and it offers extra options for recovery. Another extra potential tech for whatever that's worth: Cranium Fish pops face-down cards and triggers Atlantean effects.
Darj
I suggest to improve the flexibility by allowing you to Summon a Fish with a Level equal or lower to the total Levels. I also suggest to make the GY effect not miss timing.Since you mentioned Atlanteans, AFAIK if this card was WATER, it would also trigger the effect of an Atlantean you Tribute, since they would be sent to the GY to activate the effect of a WATER monster. Overall, a sweet card. It may be a -1 in a vacuum, but you should be playing this to make pluses with what you Summon and/or what you Tribute. Summoning the monster from anywhere is a big plus, since that means you can run a key Fish as a 1 or 20of without worrying about this card running out of targets, unless the copies are banished of course. I'm under the impression that it'd be a bad idea to make it that flexible. As far as Fish are concerned, it's a generic quick Transmodify that goes up 3 Levels instead of 1. To make it search "or lower" means access to 90% of the type no matter the setup.... Then if it was a WATER, it'd also be retrievable in multiples by Salvage. If it was an "if... you can" effect, would that mean you can trigger all copies of it off a single Summon? because I designed this thinking it'd require a hard OPT clause if I didn't do that. It's a -1 but it shows you there are bigger fish out there :v
Tinkerer
Quick question: your explanation of the card says by tributing a level 4 Fish you get Coelacanth, but the card itself says it lets you tribute any monster. Can I just get confirmation one way or the other?

IIRC there was a ruling on a similar effect that prevents such thing. Wasn't it the ruling on Treeborn Frog?
Draconus297
If the effect was mandatory (no "you can"), you could definitely trigger it in multiples. Since it's optional, they go off one at a time. That's why people flipped their sheet about an early TCG mistranslation of the Paleozoic cards' Summon effects being mandatory. Sleepy
Well if that's the case, I'll edit the changes and see if I get any new opinions on it.
