Past's retake on the original Toons [Written]

Disclaimer:
This here is limited to the Toon cards from Pegasus's Starter Deck, and the retrain is not to put them up to level for nowadays' game. It is meant to re-shape how it was introduced back in the day.

Toon World

[Continuous Spell]
Pay 1000 LP. Pay 500 LP to attack with a Toon Monster, and Toon Monsters cannot attack the turn they are Summoned. Toon Monsters can be Special Summoned (from your hand) (Tributes needed for Level 5+), or (from your hand or Deck) by Tributing a monster written in its text. Toon Monsters can attack directly, unless your opponent controls a Toon Monster. If this card is destroyed: All Toon Monsters on the field return to the hand.

 

Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon

LIGHT Level 8 [Dragon/Toon/Effect] 3000/2500

It is treated as "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" while on the field and GY. If Summoned by Tributing "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", and this card can attack this turn: You can target 1 monster with ATK equal to or lower than this card's; destroy it, and if you do, this card cannot attack this turn.

 

Manga Ryu-Ran

FIRE Level 7 [Dragon/Toon/Effect] 2200/2600

It is treated as "Ryu-Ran" while on the field and GY. When Summoned, if it was Summoned by Tributing "Ryu-Ran", and if it leaves the field by the effect of "Toon World": You can have your LP become the LP you had when this card was Summoned.

 

Toon Summoned Skull

DARK Level 6 [Fiend/Toon/Effect] 2500/1200

It is treated as "Summoned Skull" while on the field and GY, and it is always treated as an "Archfiend" card. If Summoned by Tributing "Summoned Skull", and this card can attack this turn: You can target 1 monster with DEF equal to or lower than this card's ATK; destroy it, and if you do, this card cannot attack this turn.

 

Toon Mermaid

WATER Level 4 [Fiend/Toon/Effect] 1400/1500

It is treated as "Red Archery Girl" while on the field and GY. If Summoned by Tributing "Red Archery Girl": You can target 1 face-up Spell/Trap Card; destroy it.

 

 

Generic original Toon effects are now cramped into Toon World itself.

Without Toon World, they are just vanillas that might be just extra copies of the non-Toon counterparts.

With Toon World out, they gain the Toon effects, which come with the downsides (summon sickness, pay to attack, etc). Though they are no nomi cards anymore and that's a big plus.

 

Then they have a bonus effect which only is live when they are Summoned using their original counterpart (or if you don't use this Toon World's effect, you Normal Summon them Tributing the original or another copy of themselves.... if they are high Level of course).

This last bit is a wink at the manga/anime.

 

Ryu Ran is the original pre-errata OCG effect of Toon World.

Blue-Eyes and Summoned Skull were meant to wink at Magical Mist and Burst Stream of Destruction, but they are nerfed beyond recognition lol.

Mermaid is light backrow removal. Backrow removal was supposed to be scarce back there so I didn't wanna make a spammable Breaker the Magical Warrior.

I like that you removed their dependency to Toon World in exchange of not having their Toon effects built-in.

You indeed state the goal is to re-make the concept and not so much upgrade or update them to modern times, but still, you got to admit that summoning them by Tributing their non-Toon form is too situational. How about taking an approach of NEX, in the sense they are upgrades, or alternate forms, that reside in the Extra Deck instead? I mean, they could be Contact Fusions that can only be Summoned by Tributing their respective non-Toon form. Then again, that would take an unpleasant toll on Extra Deck space, and these seem to be more like extra copies of the non-Toons with extra bonuses anyway. I would miss Toon Mermaid's self-Special Summon, though xD

Just a note that thread was technically dead for the past month (and CC has a 2 week period for non-change posts or other members). IIRC this was on page 2 already, taking into consideration the activity level in here.
