Card Requirement

Create a WATER monster that can Summon a monster when another monster is destroyed.

Card A

Puddle Painter
WATER | Aqua | Level 1 | Union | Effect
Once per turn, you can either: Target 1 monster you control; equip this card to that target, OR: Unequip this card and Special Summon it. A monster equipped with this card cannot be destroyed by card effects. Once per turn, when a monster you control is destroyed (Quick Effect): You can pay 500 LP; Special Summon that monster, and if you do, equip this card to that monster.
0/0

Card B

Nimble Sailfish
WATER - ✪✪✪ - Fish/Effect - 1400/100
You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by discarding 1 card. If this card is Summoned: Send 1 "Nimble" monster from your Deck to the GY. If another monster(s) you control is destroyed: You can Special Summon 1 Level 2 Fish or Beast monster from your GY.

Card A

Like most Union monsters, this one's generally slow by virtue of needing to be summoned first and then equipped. Effects are both fine on their own, though one concern I have is multiples forming a soft revival thing of sorts. However, chances of that happening are low, so I don't think it'll be a problem. Missing a general protection effect (well, the one that kills itself if the equipped monster would die), but it already protects the equipped monster from effects so wouldn't really do much to have it get killed via battle, even if effect removal is more common.

Card B

At least this card provides GY fodder for Beaver to revive later (or this card's other effect), but besides that, Deck is still limited to whatever it has. Granted, the other effect is generic, but outside Nimbles, no other Deck really can use it. The summonable pool is large, but yeah. Statline is fine.

====

Voting A in this case, given it isn't restricted to a single Deck and the revival effect is helpful. I did express concern about the potential "soft recycling" in multiples, however chances of it occurring are low and it's already restrained by being a Union monster otherwise.

One of the contestants would like to note that "Although Sailfish does specifically refer to Nimbles, we have cards like Nimble Angler which are used in WATER variations, and can form a really fast engine." For now, this vote is objected.

Hmm, either I lumped Angler in with the other explanation and didn't talk about it explicitly or I skimmed over it when writing a review.

Let's reevaluate card B.

Taking Angler's own SS effect into account after it gets milled via this, yeah, you can go up to Link 3 if you need to; pending circumstances. That much is good enough. When I said it has limited targets, that was mostly after looking over the viable pool of monsters this card can summon off its second effect outside this Deck. There are a lot of targets this can revive outside of the Deck, but they don't mesh well with this card and/or generally suck. (Then again, I haven't seen the EARTH members used much either in recent days, so...yeah).

So yes, it's much better than I originally credited it for earlier.

With that mind, vote changes to B because even with the archetype limit, this does set up for faster ED plays and for whatever it's worth, alleviates the need to run Foolish for the Angler play.

A is still good in its own right, but is less proactive due to its need to be NS'd or somehow placed on the field to equip itself.
