what exactly is spam in the context of polls then? if i can't post about who i voted for (even if it has to be inferred somewhat).

Well, one word...or whatever that would be called, is always spam to my knowledge. Also think about it like this, a couple more votes get in and there's no way to tell who you voted.

 

But in any case what's in the rules thread for Polls....

"Short, non-constructive comments or general spam (such as a sole reaction image) should be avoided here. Generally, make sure your posts are at least 1-2 full sentences (this should amount to about 15 or so words), or we may consider it spam."

 

So 15 words is what the current rules said

HOWEVER

We've been more lenient and generally go off of the global rules (as it also says to follow those) which are a bit more lax, though those posts would still count.

 

The idea is to make sure people at least explain their vote in a basic way.

Then shouldn't a lot of posts in this section get deleted, since they aren't constructive? Saying you voted for x or whatnot doesn't do much. Either the poll lets you see who you voted for, which makes a post like that redundant, or it doesn't which means you're not meant to reveal who you voted for anyway Whether that is expressed in a single word/reaction image or a few paragraphs shouldn't matter. In my case, I would've conveyed who I voted to, to Rewas since he would've known the state of the poll right before I voted. That's more than enough.

 

Polls is a place to quickly gain some community consensus on a lot of minor insignificant things. It's basically a place for people to have fun. It shouldn't need post control moderation like RP. and tbh you might as well get rid of the post count here too

Some of it and once status stuff gets figured out (which was the first thing I decided to work on upon modship) I will likely bring discussion of Polls reworking.

But anyway the main idea is....

 

That's the point, in a sense, of the rules. That just saying "I vote for x" shouldn't exist.

 

The post count thing has been discussed a few times and best I can tell the general thoughts among mods at the time (Mostly Sakura and Rai, who was mod of this area then) was that it still brings some level of discussion (Hence the "give your reasons for voting" thing). Similar to some common forms of General threads during which people give relatively simple thoughts about subjects. And since it does post count makes sense. (This is a simplification but don't want to get too into it at 5 AM in a single Poll). Technically the entire forum is for fun, but even places like Video Games have a general "Have to post a certain amount".

Which is why its post controlled similarly to General, as opposed to RP. (yee gods that would be terrifying)

 

Basically the rules are meant only so that if people post they give a brief reasoning. Since if they wish to just say "I voted this" then a vote says that (though it DOES get more tricky with anon votes).

 

However once the previously stated topic is dealt with (as I don't want to suddenly flood the mod forum with threads), which should be by tomorrow, then I'll put up a discussion about Polls and, once we figure out our general stance, we'll figure out what people think.

 

To be honest this is a subject I've been heated about in the past (three years ago, as it turns out) due to thinking that Poll creation is enough effort to merit being considered a "post count" post. However now that I'm older and, thankfully, wiser...and now that I have actual responsibilities, I'd like to take a final crack at figuring out once and for all what to do with this place.

 

Since as you point out there are a ton of rule breaks. I just don't want to hastily  take away post count without discussing its merit first.

 

So...uhh.....idk why this got so long and sorry but I hope I answered your concerns. I assure you that I'll try and figure out what would be best, through the mods and members both, ASAP. I just want time to take the correct steps.

 

In the meantime I have to continue following the rules in place. Don't worry, though, there won't be warning points unless someone gets out of hand with it.

tbh the twins are two of my favorite members here. Really friendly both of them and such.

Though their activity, likely very close to the "inactive" category, and mostly Misc posts probably doesn't help as far as voting goes.

Given Mido is a sandy Atheist in Egypt, and Vla1ne is a black man in Rochester, I'm guessing Nico and Mieri are the twins?

 

Are we talking legit twins?

Yeah, 100% legit. Though who knows, maybe Mido and Vla1ne have a secret they're not sharing.

 

iirc Mirei and Nico, and Welche and Luna, are the only instances of (generally known) twins on YCM

That aside Mido is really killing this thing. Kinda shocked given how close knit the RP com is

Yup, he goes by "Luna Lovegood" and went basically inactive before even Welche did.

Mirei doesn't RP, for the record.

And mido doesn't do much of anything post wise since he quit YGO back in my Ruler days and since debates died

 

He's not super well know outside of a close circle of friends, but pt noted

 

Funny enough I've actually interacted with Luna...just assumed it was YCM being YCM rather than them actually being twins

How did you actually get to this conclusion? Like legit, it's so obvious he's referring to Nico and Mieri who have the same theme and talk and are in the same country and etc

 

like, were you looking for an excuse to say "wow mido you so brave and vlaine you so smart"

No becuase cow refered to Elly as his sister before. I'm somewhat unsure if he meant it literally
