Justice League: No Justice

Following the conclusion of the current event, "Dark Nights: Metal" will be a weekly miniseries from Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Joshua Williamson, and Francis Manapul, where Brainiac warns Earth of a cosmic threat, and various heroes and even villains form individual teams, each teaming setting out to save a different world.

From a publishing standpoint, this storyline also seeks to reconvene the various team books, and also branch out into new books that will launch in June, headlined by Scott Snyder writing the main "Justice League" title.

Personally, I'm really excited about this. It's a great creative team, and Brainiac is my favorite DC villain, and while I'm not sure if the specific teams would lead into team books featuring the exact same line-ups, overall this is a pretty good premise. It also seems like a good way to keep up momentum, rather than allowing event fatigue or the like to settle in. Metal has generally been a major turning point for DC, and this is a direct continuation of that. I hope good things come from this.

Been wanting to see Brainiac used better after Convergence. That event I think was solely just to get the old Superman back into the current universe.

Scott Snyder's an awesome writer, his run on Batman is one of the best comic runs in recent years. I still need to read the Dark Nights: Metal event, but I've heard good things. Him writing Justice League should serve as a great jumping on point for folks interested in checking the JL comic out.

Convergence was just a filler event DC published while they moved their offices to Burbank. I think Brainiac has shown up in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, but subservient to Larfleeze. This sounds like a much better use of his character.

I've read a few of the tie-ins to Metal, though I need to read more of Snyder's Batman run proper. I have the second box set to read through.

Agreed that this will be a good jumping on point. A lot of Rebirth seems to be wrapping up its first "phase", so something like this to fold back in an relaunch the Justice League line sounds like a good refresher.

It was all pretty solid, even the Jim Gordon stuff for the Superheavy arc.

He also did that All-Star Batman run, that limited series felt like Snyder asking, "What would a Tarantino-style Batman look like" and amped it up to 11. Even Alfred does crazy sheet in that one.

I've never really read Green Lantern, though maybe I should check out some of the Geoff Johns stuff to see if I'd be interested.

I agree with the end of the first phase, I think the end of Doomsday Clock would line up with that as well (also need to read that, though I might just wait until it finishes).

Anyways, I've got faith in DC. They seem to have been keeping things on the ball ever since Rebirth.

I should check out All-Star Batman as well. It was basically Snyder trying out various collaborations with artists he's wanted to work with. I'm especially interested in The First Ally.

DC has recently started publishing trades of older Green Lantern runs, and I got the first trade with Kyle Rayner's introduction. He's always been the GL I've been most interested in, so I'm really happy with this. Geoff Johns' run sounds like it's really good, too, though I think my main issue with Geoff Johns is that he brought back Hal and Barry, when I think it would have been better to focus on their successors.

I've enjoyed the first two issues of Doomsday Clock, although considering the recent shift to bimonthly, it might not end until May 2019 at the latest. This story has been what the DC Universe Rebirth one-shot was leading to, so I think we can consider Doomsday Clock the definitive end of this era. So it may come down to what happens after that story.

Rebirth brought me back to DC. I enjoyed some of the New 52 books (I finally finished Kyle Higgins' Nightwing run last year, and I loved it a lot), but Forever Evil was the "halfway" point of the New 52, and it changed a lot, and maybe not necessarily for the better. But I'm happy with Rebirth because DC is owning that they lost their way with the New 52. To give an example, one of Geoff Johns' absolute favorite characters is Conner Kent. Reading Scott Lobdell's Superboy stories, Johns said it was worse than being angry. He felt apathy towards what Lobdell did. So a huge part of this is wanting to bring back that sense of joy and excitement.

And because Geoff Johns loves Conner Kent, I really think he may come back in Doomsday Clock. Though I can't help but notice that the majority of Damian's Teen Titans team is mostly involved in No Justice. Considering how DC is looking to refresh the team books, I think Teen Titans might fall under that as well. Maybe Conner Kent, and some of his teammates from Young Justice, could be reuniting to fill the gap?
