The bag she carries isn’t quite as large as the one in the picture, more along the lines of a normal backpack. She still carries a lot of first aid items in it though, along with snacks and water, because she tends to over prepare.

She’s also a little bit chubby, which isn’t really shown well in the picture. Not overweight, and it doesn’t tend to be exceedingly obvious, but she’s soft. If anything, the best way to describe her would probably be small.

[spoiler=Biography]

Nothing fun ever happens in Eterna City.

It wasn’t right to call the city outback. It wasn’t that far from Hearthome, if you had a bike, and the bike shop was almost always open. The owner was pretty generous. But to go to Hearthome, going through Cycling Road, making your way through Mount Coronet, it was a full day’s worth of travel, almost.

Eterna Forest blocked the path towards Floaroma Town, but why would someone want to go there? All it has are flowers. If you’re a little persistent, from there you can get to Jubilife, which is a lot more interesting. The lights, the city is nice, there’s a plenty for someone to do there, but ultimately, you have to plan out a full trip.

Gwendolyn’s problem was ultimately clear to any observer, she was just bored. Being born in Eterna City wasn’t the worst thing ever, it was quiet enough and safe, with the exception of the occasional bad child, and there was enough outside contact with the world for businesses to succeed. Travelers would often pass through the city, usually in order to challenge the Eterna Gym, bringing stories and experiences to tell people at the Pokemon Center. That’s how it was when Gwen was born.

Born to the Bike Shop owner and his wife, Gwen and her older sister were often trained for the day they would have to take over the Bike Shop. Coming first, Caethes’ training to take over began when she turned seven, being taught about how the bikes worked, how to repair them, and how to ride them. She accepted the training, not seeing it as odd due to growing up around the shop in the first place, often helping her father out with tasks when he requested her to. Of course, that changed when she overheard her parents talking one evening and learned that her mother was pregnant once again. She did her best to avoid being found out, but resentment had begun to bubble inside of her, feeling as though they just thought she wasn’t enough.

Caethes began to take on a rebellious streak with her parents, getting into petty arguments and running off to hide in the Forest, avoiding them as much as she could. She would often run around the Old Chateau, ignoring the rumors of ghost sightings that had occurred there. Day after day, she would return to the Chateau, hiding away from the chores her parents had wanted her to do, avoiding contact with others, and growing older. Rumors about her began to spread, people claiming that she was possessed by the ghosts in the mansion, and that she talked to them to try and curse others.

When Gwendolyn was born, Caethes didn’t seem to care anymore. She still tried to avoid the Bike Shop, but her parents were getting more determined. Now, with Gwen to take care of, they were tougher on Caethes, requiring her to stay and help with the Shop. It was too much for them to handle the shop and take care of Gwen, so her mother began to focus on raising the baby, while she was forced to help out in the shop. Years of this went by, Caethes getting more responsibility put on her, while Gwen was growing as well. Over the course of seven years, Caethes and Gwen began to grow closer. She never blamed her baby sister for the troubles caused, but watching the child on days she had to could be tiring. When Gwen was old enough, Caethes began to take her out into the forest, letting her sister tag along on her explorations. The two got closer as they had a mutual interest in running around the old, decrepit mansion and the spooky forest around it.

But it wouldn’t last. On Caethes’ fourteenth birthday, she ran. She had gotten her hands on Quick Balls, and had run out into the woods, towards the Chateau. When Gwendolyn chased after her, Caethes tugged her aside and let her tag along. She quickly explained that, while she didn’t want to hurt the family, she was so tired of being expected to take up some shop she wasn’t even that interested in. She managed to get a deal where she picked up enough Quick Balls to guarantee she would catch a Pokemon, and her eyes were set on a Gastly. She said she had kept Gwen away from the Pokemon, Ghost Types were notoriously hard to deal with at times, and she still had to keep her sister safe. After Caethes caught her Gastly, she hugged Gwendolyn tight and spoke once more:

“I know it isn’t right for me to run like this, I shouldn’t abandon you. I promise that I’ll be back, and I will find a way to get you out of here too. Just wait for me to get back, okay?”

Gwendolyn stifled a little sniff before nodded to Caethes, watching as her sister ran. She ran through the woods, fleeing from her life. Gwen made her way back to her family’s home, sneaking inside to avoid her parents… Resolving to keep Caethes running away a secret from her parents, forever.

Eight more years of living with her parents, lying about Caethes, and trying to figure out how she was going to leave Eterna. The boring, forest city didn’t have enough to keep her occupied. The chances of going out on her own adventure was slim, her parents didn’t want to entertain the idea of her leaving the town. No, they wanted her to stay and help with their shop. Trapping her. Until one day, during one of her walks through the woods to begin her day, she saw someone. Travellers through the woods weren’t uncommon, but this wasn’t any traveller. A loud gasp escaped Gwen as she rushed to meet her sister once again, hugging her tight as she let out a little sigh.

She didn’t return home that night, instead choosing to spend the day catching up with her sister. They roamed the woods like they had years ago, spending time in the old Chateau. She learned her sister had been on the Gym challenge, saving the Eterna Gym for last. She had planned to sneak into the Gym, but knew that if she had waited in the woods, “Well… It would only be a matter of time before I saw you again, little sis.”

Caethes didn’t plan to stay long, a week at most, staying in the woods. She wanted to catch up with Gwen, but she had no desire to see the rest of their family. Instead, she presented her sister with an Egg, a pale gray, almost black in color, with two faded white bones along the back of it. She handed Gwen a black Pokeball, red and white stripes along it for when the Egg hatched, then gave her specific instructions. Take a bike and run down Cycling Road. She could easily avoid trainers with just the Egg. There was a ship in Canalave City, preparing to head to a new region. She had originally planned to go herself, but remembering her promise, she knew this was the best chance for her younger sister to get away. She confided in Gwen, she intended to face the Champion here, and win. And then hold that title until Gwen returned:

“...Then we’ll have a battle, sound good?”

Gwen nodded, just like she had when they were children. Her sister gave her some money to purchase repels, in order to avoid any Pokemon that might try to attack her on the way to Jubilife, then Canalave… Then once they were prepared to part ways, they shared one last hug.

Caethes fought the Eterna Gym while Gwen snuck out of town, taking her new Egg with her, eventually coming to Canalave. On the boat to the new Region, the egg finally hatched, leaving her with her new partner, who she nicknamed Von.

[spoiler=Personality]

Gwendolyn, despite usually being rather soft spoken, has a rather strong personality. She’s extremely diligent, thanks to her years of working with her parents in their Bike Shop and the expectations that things be done properly, and doesn’t like to cut corners on most of anything, really.

She often ran to Hearthome City during her teenage years, being drawn towards performers to distract herself from her home life. She didn’t particularly want to be a Contest Star though, she just enjoyed the escapism of it, and that sums up a lot of her life. She often would find ways to escape from the boring day to day life she lived, whether that was Eterna Forest, Hearthome contests, or just hiding in her room with books.

She likes to chat with people when she’s able to, after being in a relatively slow growing area for so long. She’s not entirely used to being around people her age, so when she speaks, it can often seem like it’s either coming from someone younger than her, or much older. She concerns herself over how she speaks a little too much, often times trying to rephrase things to make them sound more normal than her first attempt, though it often ends up backfiring on her.

Thanks to her upbringing, she has a hard time picking up on jokes, thanks to her time with her sister being mostly exploration, and her time with her parents being mostly work and chores. While she can understand them, and occasionally makes them, it’s really easy for her to miss social cues that others would’ve picked up on.

[spoiler=Starting Pokemon]

Name: Von the Duskull

Gender: Male

Obtained: Egg given by her older sister, Caethes, hatched during the boat ride to the Korova region. Trained slightly on the boat, the two have gotten used to each other.

Personality: Von has a little more trickster in him than Gwen can actually handle, not that she knows it yet. She was warned by her sister that Von might be a little… Excitable, compared to others of his species, and she was right. Von has a tendency to float around haphazardly when he’s out of his Pokeball, phasing through people just enough to stare at them from their chest. His gaze also tends to wander, which isn’t surprising on it’s own, but coupled with the relatively short attention span, it can result in him wandering off without being noticed.

[spoiler=The Original]
Von the Duskull
Male
Level 5
Levitate
Impish. +Defense, -Sp. Attack
Astonish, Leer, Night Shade

[spoiler=Other]

- Theme
- She tends to carry about an obscenely large number of candy bars, often restocking any chance she gets.
- Thanks to hanging around her sister, she became desensitized to the idea of Ghost type Pokemon doing weird things. She still hasn’t experienced much of said weird things.
- She has lost Duskull precisely six times on the boat to Korova. She doesn’t know where he’s wandering off to, but she tried to follow him. She cannot walk through walls.
- She’s unreasonably fond of Buneary. Her time in Eterna Forest was met with a fair number of Buneary running around, and when she was younger, she would chase after them. She never caught one, she swears up and down she led an army around the forest.

- When she could, she would often sneak off from her parents to make a day in Hearthome City, especially when she heard that Fantina was occasionally part of the contests. She practically idolizes Contest Stars, but she never got to see any who didn't perform in Hearthome at some point.

- She really wanted to participate in contests at one point, but never got the opportunity to thanks to her parents. She wanted to be a trainer too, so it's not like she's missing out too much, but she plans to try her hand at them in the future.

black wanted me to post this -v-''

1. Write a single line of text that describes your character overall.

An escapist with a promise, a promise to grow stronger and return home to give her sister a proper battle that the two never got to have.

2. If you get in do you think they'd be in Naomi or Jacklyn's group? Why? It could be which makes most "sense" or it could be which would be most interesting or both.

I believe either group would honestly work well for Gwen, I think her more serious, dedicated nature could clash with Noami at the right times to keep things interesting, but without being overly contrarian or unpleasant to be around. Could provide a decent foil, with Noami being more into the spooky things, and Gwen more posing in that regard. Despite having a Ghost type, she hasn't actually experienced all the spooky things that they do.

I legit didn't read Noami's personality in depth until now, I just realized I basically created a foil to her. You can ask Josh, he listened to me as I was writing the character.

I think that Jacklyn and Gwen would get along fairly well, less clash due Jacklyn being more serious about the adventuring, which would probably get... Not boring, but it would probably be more standard, less interesting.

[spoiler=Former Team Skull Grunt]

OCO5E4E.png

"Don't tell me what to do, and we'll get along just fine."

Name: Ivan Keave
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Hometown: Po Town (Alola)

[spoiler=Appearance]
bsl0wR3.png
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 174.3 lbs

[spoiler=Personality]
As far as Ivan is concerned, the world can be a cruel place. Instead of trying to change it, however, he instead makes due with what he has. While this makes him fairly independent, it does lead to a somewhat selfish mentality. His independent mentality tends to put him at odds with authority, taking rules as suggestions rather than regulation. He gets along well enough with people so long as they don't do anything that challenges his freedom.

Behind the tough guy facade is someone who longs to belong somewhere, although he'll never admit it. He doesn't care much about what strangers think of him, being rather distrusting of others at first. When it comes to those that are close to him, however, it's a completely different story. He wants the admiration of his friends and family, and will protect that as much as possible.

Once Ivan sets his mind to something, there is little that can stop him from achieving it; even the rules aren't safe. He tends to act very rashly, especially in the spur of the moment. While this leads to sub-optimal decisions, he is quick on his feet. He tries his hardest to look like he isn't trying, but there are cracks in his cool guy persona. While rare, he can get very flustered or lose his cool in a fit of rage.

[spoiler=Biography]
While he considers Po Town his home even after leaving it for his own adventures, he was technically born in Malie City as the middle child of 3. He was raised there for 10 years by his mother; his father leaving home when he was about 6 years old. Since his mother was one of the few professional trainers from Alola, they managed to get by relatively well, although this meant that his mother spent a lot of time not at home. While the family was close, it was hard not to feel like the black sheep of the family, as he was often compared to his older brother, while not being as pampered as his little sister.

Unlike many of the children of Alola, Ivan didn't have much interest in the island challenges. He was definitely into being a Pokemon Trainer, but the other additions to the trials felt... gimmicky to him, and a waste of his time. Why they couldn't just do normal gym battles like the Kantonian ones they imitated, he never understood. When he became 11, however, his mother insisted that he take it. It didn't help that his older brother had passed the trials roughly 4 years ago with flying colors, showing to the world that he was his mother's son. Reluctantly, Ivan decided to take it on. His first Pokemon was a Rockruff that she had gifted him.

Unfortunately, Ivan did not seem to have the same natural talent as his older brother, and struggled on his trials. It didn't help that him and his Rockruff couldn't get along at all, as the small pupper would constantly disobey him. It didn't take long for him to get frustrated with the whole experience and, in a fit of rage, stormed off to find a place for him to clear his mind. While storming off, he was ambushed by a few Team Skull grunts. They tried to steal his Rockruff away from him and, to the grunt's surprise, Ivan practically gave it to them in a fit of rage, letting loose pent up frustration.

Instead of taking his Pokemon, however, the grunts instead heard his plight and offered to let him join Team Skull. He hesitated at first, but ultimate agreed. He following the two grunts to Po Town, where he saw a lot of kids roughly. They had similar stories of failures, none of them being able to pass the dumb trials the islands set up. He would spend the next couple of years at Po Town, getting to know his fellow grunts. He felt like he finally belonged somewhere. Of course, being part of a group of thugs, he had to do some shady stuff.

At first, it was fairly easy for him to vandalize and rob from the outsiders; as far as his angst said, they had treated him and his new family like trash, and deserved no sympathy. Rockruff was still very disobedient, obviously not pleased to be in its new surroundings. Ivan took a more hands on approach to his thuggery, not engaging in many Pokemon battles. He slowly became the muscle of the group, either carrying things or even fighting off other people. However, he couldn't help but feel a small bit of doubt as the months passed by, feeling tiny seeds of remorse that grew the more crimes he committed.

One day, while picking up some of the berries from the berry pile in front of town, he accidentally woke up a rather young pancham that was sleeping underneath the pile. Naturally, it was agitated by the rude awakening, jumping at Ivan. The two wrestled for a bit before tiring out. As the two leaned against the tree to rest, Ivan offered the Pancham one of the berries he had grabbed. It seemed shocked at first, before quickly grabbing the berry and eating it. Since that day, the Pancham would occasionally show up when it saw Ivan walking about and the two would hang out, taking in the alolan sunshine under the tree while eating some berries. He would vent some of his frustrations and doubts at the pancham, and found himself rather attached to the little guy.

Eventually his feeling of doubt crept up to him as he got older, no longer feeling justified in his life of crime. He was still using his Rockruff, although it was clear that the Pokemon was not comfortable with its new surroundings. It rarely obeyed him and performed poorly, never even evolving. Although Ivan kind of hated the mutt, he couldn't help but feel sorry for it; after all, it did not choose to go with him on this adventure. He stayed with Team Skull a bit longer than he had intended, but he contributed less and less as time passed on. Eventually, despite how hard it was to part with what he considered close friends, he resigned from the group.

As a parting gift, the member of Team Skull gave him a wrist band with the team's insignia imprinted on it. They were sad that he was leaving, some even angry, but the general consensus of the group was that of acceptance. As he was leaving Po Town, however, he saw the Pancham following him as it normally would. Seeing this, an idea struck him. He asked the Pancham if it wanted to join him on his adventure, which it seemed more than eager to do. He made two stops that day, one at a the PokeCenter to get a Pokeball for his true first Pokemon and another at his old home to drop of the Rockruff. He recalled his mother taking about a region called Korova and how they were apparently looking for a new champion or something. It sounded like the perfect place to turn a new leaf.

Reptilious, with Ivan! From when I first saw the character I really liked him and wanted him in this. It helps I can see him fitting in with either group. I look forward to seeing how he handles the events of the RP.

If you want to be in the Skype chat (which is just me and Skaia atm) let me, or Skaia, know.

And now I shall look over the characters that were edited/finished since I last gave thoughts and...give thoughts.

[spoiler=Professor in the Making]Name: Victor Girard
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Hometown: Petalburg city, Hoenn

[spoiler=Appearance]new_mons_character.jpg
Vic is a somewhat unassuming young man with thick, black hair and light hazel eyes. Despite being tall (6 feet, in fact) and athletic, he somehow manages to blend in almost as well as his partner, Phineas. Perhaps its because he doesn't talk too much, and even when he does his soft, soothing tenor of a voice doesn't lend itself to being heard. Or maybe its just that the way he carries himself doesn't give him much presence, but for whatever reason, Vic is hard to pick out, be it in a crowd or even alone in the woods tracking wild pokemon. He favors earth tones in his clothing, and prefers warm, comfortable jackets and loose fitting pants (as pictured above). Like many trainers, he's almost never without his hat, which he often wears backwards so that his Treeko has an easier time hanging onto his shoulder. Other items of note include a durable leather messenger bag in which Vic will stash any number of useful or interesting things, his boots (which feature steel toes and slip resistant treads), and the latest model Devon corporation Poke'nav, which was a going-away present from his older sister.

[spoiler=Personality]As stated above, Vic is a quiet, soft spoken person. He's introspective, thoughtful, and and level-headed; rarely prone to bouts of anger or absent mindedness. Though these are all good traits to have (especially when compared to some of Victor's more fiery peers), they also give most people a rather dull first impression of Vic's character. At a glance, he seems kind of odd; not speaking too often, and often appearing to be lost in his own thoughts or staring off into space. It doesn't help his case that he isn't the most social young man, either (he usually won't start a conversation and looks like he'd be much more comfortable off by himself somewhere). All these factors together mean that most people write Victor off immediately. In other words, he's incredibly disarming.

The reality, however, is that this just isn't the truth. Victor is much more present and far more intelligent than he appears to be. He's constantly people (or pokemon) watching, making mental notes of everything he sees and committing as much information as possible to memory. A bottomless well of factoids, observations, and useful knowledge, Vic seems to have an answer for everything, to the point that even his friends can sometimes find it annoying. His approach to life in general is very empirical: observe, hypothesize, test, record, and if necessary, repeat. Conversely, Victor finds it difficult, even frightening, to go into a situation without some kind of prior knowledge, and so he prefers to stay back and watch before committing to something. While this process of his can (and probably will) make him a successful person, it also means that Victor has a very hard time "feeling" his way through any given event. In other words, one could say he's socially inept. Relationships (platonic or otherwise) are difficult for him, as people (and sometimes pokemon) often don't behave in predictable ways that lend themselves to his method of understanding. Put bluntly, Vic has a sort of robotic awkwardness about him that he has a hard time overcoming.

Definitely don't take this to mean that Victor is robotic though. Quite the contrary, in fact. While creativity might not be his strong suit, and he definitely isn't outgoing, Victor is most certainly sensitive and empathetic. His ability to interact and express himself leaves something to be desired, sure, but he's always observant enough to notice when something is wrong. He doesn't always know the right thing to say, but rest assured that Victor will always say or do something when he sees another individual in need. Likewise, he wears his own emotions on his sleeve(though verbally expressing that he feels hurt or sad is rare),and so its very easy to tell how Vic himself is feeling, simply by watching or talking with him. This is especially evident in his interactions with pokemon, who (probably due to his non-threatening appearance) seem naturally drawn to him. Likewise Victor finds their animal behaviors and emotional honesty much preferable to people, who can be hard for him to connect with.

[spoiler=Biography]Victor Gerard has always loved being outside. Even when he was small, mother nature seemed to provide a better playground than anything Petalburg City had to offer, and so much of Vic's early childhood was spent adventuring, either with friends or by himself, in the Petalburg Woods and the surrounding routes. As he grew older, this fascination with the great outdoors intermingled with an interest in science and biology, specifically that of the pokemon he always seemed to encounter.

By the time he was thirteen, this had blossomed into something of an obsession for him, and most of Victor's free time was spent (as he likes to call it) "pokemon tracking": looking for evidence of, following, and ultimately finding and observing the creatures in their natural habitats, all while doing his best to remain undetected. He got really good at it too, so much so that people began to take notice when he brought back the locations of watering holes for rare pokemon, or pictures of specimens with odd, shiny coloration. As it happened, one of these people was Hoenn's resident Pokemon Professor: Birch. Professor Birch (who had given Victor's older sister Shirley her Mudkip a few years previously) saw potential in the young teen, and offered Victor a job at his laboratory as a field assistant. Victor (after some negotiating with his parents, of course) happily accepted, and spent the next few years traveling on and off across Hoenn whenever the professor needed an extra hand.

It was on one of these research excursions that Professor Birch gave Victor his first pokemon: a hot-blooded Treeko that he nicknamed Phineas. Though it took a bit longer than the professor expected, and there was some fighting along the way, Victor and Phin developed a strong, healthy partnership. Phineas was perfectly suited to helping Vic track down wild pokemon for study, and despite the clashing personalities of Pokemon and Trainer, the both of them bonded of their shared love of exploration and discovery. When faced with hostile or territorial wild pokemon, they proved adept in battle as well (much to the professor's relief).

Just a few weeks after his seventeenth birthday, Vic's older sister Shirley (with her rambunctious Swampert in tow) arrived home after competing in the Sinnoh Pokemon league. While there she'd heard that Korova, a far away region, was seeking new trainers to come adventure there and take part in their own regional league. Eager for her little brother to have the same kind of experiences that she'd had at his age, she urged Victor to go. Though Phin was more than eager, Victor was hesitant to leave for such a far away place. Ultimately, it took a pokemon battle (in which Shirley used a newly captured Tailow to defeat Vic's Treeko), to convince Victor that there was much more he had to learn. So, hesitantly, but with his family and professor Birch's blessing, Victor set off for Korova to begin his journey as a Pokemon Trainer.

[spoiler=Starter Pokemon]Species: Treeko
Nickname: Phineas (Phin for short)
Gender: Male
Obtained: A year and a half ago, from Professor Birch.
[spoiler=Personality]Phin is an action hero, or at least he thinks he is. Hot tempered, eager, even foolhardy, Phineas thinks he can handle any challenge put before him, charging headlong into the unknown and battle alike with reckless abandon. He means well, mind you, but between his mischievous streak, competitive nature, and short temper, Phin often finds himself in over his head. Luckily for him, Victor is always around to help reign him in when he gets himself in too much trouble. On the flip side, Phin is most often the one who drags Victor out of his shell, and tends to do the job of breaking the ice with new people for his triainer. Phin can be wily and manipulative too, and whenever there's something he wants, or something he can tell that his trainer wants, Phin will always try to engineer a situation that produces that outcome, sometimes at his own or (more often) Victor's expense. Needless to say, Phineas can be tough to get along with, but there's no doubt that deep down he's good-hearted, and he's always willing to go the extra mile and stick his neck out when his friends need him.

[spoiler=Team][spoiler=Phin]
Species: Treeko
Nickname: Phineas, Phin
Gender: Male
Level: 5
Ability: Overgrow
Nature: Adamant
Moves: Pound, Leer, Absorb

[spoiler=Other]

  • Both Vic and Phin have a love for dried fruit, and they can usually be found eating it together on the trail.
  • Vic's favorite color is green.
  • To date, Vic has successfully tracked and seen 142 distinct species of pokemon. Despite this, he has never even once attempted to capture one.

I appreciate the edits, and the character as a whole I think I understand more than before. I wish I could say more but I didn't have huge issues to begin with. My main issue is just...deciding which of the good characters presented to go with :P
I'll try and think of ways to narrow it down, be on the lookout for that.

After much blood, sweat and hand cramps, it is here! But it is not a coincidence, I swear!

"Stormy trails are the best way to grow and learn from your mistakes"

Name: Braden Cluster

Gender: Male
Age: 17

Hometown: Fortree City, Hoenn Region
[spoiler=Appearance] M2BIhd5.jpg

Height: 5’6”

Weight: 135

[spoiler=Personality]

Braden is quite the social butterfly with adults but is socially awkward towards people around his own age. He gets flustered when making friends and tends to just stick with his old friends, however, he is kind and willing to help others. He is an only child but he never really clicked with the other kids, however, he considered the workers at the Weather Institute his family and spent most of his time at the Institute. Whenever he was back home, he would be either locked in his room or out on the deck of his house watching the clouds during the day and the stars at night. He is generally calm and collected, especially in his speech and will tend to think out loud and mutter to himself.

He is quite knowledgeable in the world of science but is generally out of the loop when it comes to current events and the regular lingo that deals with being a trainer. Though his family has Pokémon, he never bothered with learning how to take care of them, he saw them more as his parent's responsibilities or just the means of getting work done. He is a hard worker and pulls his own weight whenever there is a task at hand, relaxing is for when the work is done. He excels in within groups as seeing that group efforts were more effective than doing things individually. He is never a sore loser when it comes to losing or failing, he takes it as means of learning and laughing at his mistakes.

[spoiler=Biography]

Braden lived his early childhood, from what he remembered, living in Floaroma Town in the Sinnoh Region where his parents worked in the Valley Windworks, but soon moved to Fortree City in the Hoenn Region in hopes of a better simpler life. However, with the brief memories of the powerplant, Braden was mesmerized with weather and how it affected the world. Though his parents left that profession and took a life of owning a general store in Fortree, Braden would spend most of his late childhood and teenage years with the Weather Institute training to be a Meteorologist instead of joining the rest of his peers going on long journeys to be Pokémon Trainers. However, by the time he turned 17, is when everything changed for either bad or good.

On his way to the institute, Braden noticed that many scud clouds were starting to form near the institute signaling an incoming thunderstorm. Braden hurried to avoid such a storm, however, he saw a white object fall from one of the clouds. Taking a slight detour, he went towards where the fallen object fell as thunder was sounding in the far distance. Upon reaching the likely spot, he was surprised to find a Castform huddled under a tree shaking. Not wanting to leave it here, he picked it up and continued running to the institute.

By the time he got to the building, it was starting to rain, and the lightning was starting to be visible. Upon entering, the president was waiting for him and asked to meet with him and had the staff take Castform to hold. The president rarely has 1 on 1 meeting with Braden and they generally deal with going into the field with the regular workers, but this was more different than the usual’s. He went on about how much he appreciates everything that Braden has helped with and how he loved this profession he wants to go into. However, as he handed him a paper declaring the Korova League, he felt it was time for Braden to take a break and go live the life he should’ve experienced in his youth.

This came as a shock that he was being pushed out to go on something he just had no desire to go on. He utterly refused at the proposal and declared to be a Meteorologist long before. The president tried to reason, but Braden ran off towards home. Upon returning home, soaking wet, he was surprised to see his parents waiting with a backpack ready for him. Even his parent was in cahoots with the president in kicking him out and go on some silly adventure. Braden refused to listen to anything they had to say, but the feel of rushing wind from behind caught his attention to only see the president with Castform in hand. The Pokémon floated towards Braden as it proceeds to give it an embrace, as to declare Braden as its Trainer. As he calmed down, the president explained that finding Castform was no coincidence and the importance of journeys for the youth and that Braden’s was long overdue. He can still aspire to be a Meteorologist, but he should find good foundations for his dreams. After some thinking, Braden accepted to go even though it pains to leave his family and friends behind.

With final farewells from family and his Institute colleagues, he was on his way towards Korova with his Castform, Scud, at his side.

[spoiler=Starting Pokemon]

Pokemon: Castform

Nickname: Scud

Gender: Male

Appearance: Regular Castform but the tip of its hair (if it is hair) is curled slightly

Personality: He is very curious and almost never wants to stay in a Pokeball. Think of Cosmog from Sun/Moon, but a lot more obedient. Scud will change tint color from white to either light red/orange or light blue to indicate whether change and this will, in turn, affect its emotions like Bipolar Disorder. White is normal, red/orange is angry, and light blue is sadness.

How Obtained/How Long: It, quite literally, fell from the sky and was picked up by Braden right before he left for Korova

[spoiler=Edits]

*12/5/17 - Edited Bio, Personality, and Other

*12/6/17 - Added a pic with a phrase at the beginning and changed some personality

It's better than it was, my main problem is....Just if his personality is a better fit than some of the other characters. I know that's kind of vague but it's what I am thinking about while reading it. I'm mostly unsure if he fits as well as some of the rest.

[spoiler=Beckett Garriott]

"I'm gonna be Champion! I HAVE to!"

Name: Beckett Garriot
Gender: Male
Age: 16

Hometown: Veilstone City, Sinnoh

Appearance:  wrg07OM.jpg

Height- 5'5"

Weight- 137 lb

[spoiler=Personality:] A stammering, awkward exterior lies over the zany energy that Beckett embodies. Happy-go-lucky and always quick with a joke, Beckett is an energetic boy, always seeming to move a mile a minute, whether he's talking or moving. Initially Beckett is somewhat slow and awkward around new people, eager to impress, but it's difficult to suppress his natural enthusiasm. Beckett is extremely passionate (almost overly so) about the things he likes, and devotes himself hardcore to those things, and if you believe everything he says he's even more knowledgeable about them than he appears (he isn't). Pokemon battling is the main one, and he also has a habit of collecting Pokemon masks, having built up so many in his collection that it feels like he pulls out a different one each time. A bit of a showboater and prone to bragging a bit when he's accomplished something, Beckett can be a bit of an annoying presence to be around sometimes purely because he's so desperate to be perceived as someone to be admired.

Beckett more than anything wants to be liked and to be considered to be good at things, being a Trainer in particular. It's the main reason he came to the Korova Region, wanting desperately to prove himself by accomplishing one of the greatest tasks of all. He has a lot of confidence issues he buried underneath bravado, and often tackles challenges without taking the time to plan them through, even though he's at the end of the day very intelligent and good at solving problems if he takes some time to look at a decision. He rushes everything he does because he wants people to perceive him as someone who can accomplish tasks quickly and easily, like what he thinks a Pokemon Champion should be like, even though he really works through tasks much better if he takes some time to plan them. He's often at least a little stressed out, because he's so worried about how people perceive him. He's quick to assume people think the worst of him and has built up a bit of a victim complex, though he still tries his best to be on people's good side.

Always amazed whenever he finds someone who legitimately enjoys his company, Beckett is fiercely protective of his friends, Gligar in particular. He takes it upon himself to undertake almost any task to help someone he considers a friend. He acts like it's just something a trainer worthy of being Champion does, but at the end of the day he cares greatly about people and Pokemon close to him.

[spoiler=Biography:] Beckett was born the oldest of four siblings, and had the position of outcast among them from an early age. His two brothers and his sister all seemed to gel with each other better than they did with the fundamentally different Beckett. It always came off to Beckett like he was disliked by his siblings, even though he tried his best to be friends with them. Fights broke out between the four often, Beckett finding himself on the losing side almost all the time. He spent a lot of time alone growing up, usually reading about the Pokemon he was passionate about. He especially was interested in learning about the Legendary Pokemon, such as the noble Solgaleo and the fickle Tapu Koko and the majestic Entei.

He initially didn't get into Pokemon battling itself, since the legendary Pokemon he wanted to know so much about were insanely unlikely to be present. It was only when he was dragged to the Veilstone Gym by a friend to watch their older brother challenge it that he was hooked. He found the battle to be amazing, and would often hang around the gym trying to catch a battle there between the gym leader and their challengers. He also traveled to Hearthome City a few times with his father (for work reasons) and watched a few of Fantina's battles, as well as taking in a few contests that he also enjoyed. He picked up a habit there from one of the competitors of collecting various Pokemon masks, a habit he still indulges to this day.

Beckett started to grow excited for his eventual journey, though he was teased plenty by his siblings, who all thought he would scrub out very early, not thinking much of him. Beckett was constantly frustrated that he was being underestimated, and one day took it upon himself to prove them wrong. He left Veilstone for Route 214, determined to catch his own Pokemon, though he didn't have one with him at the time. While on the route, he encountered a group of Murkrow, who were bullying a lone Gligar. Beckett tried to save the Gligar from the Murkrow, but they attacked him instead, chasing him back towards Veilstone until he was assisted by a local trainer, who then escorted him home to his highly amused siblings. One good thing did come of that day, though: Later that night Beckett heard a tapping at his window, and he opened it to find the grateful Gligar outside. Even though he had failed to chase the Murkrow off, Gligar was happy someone had stuck up for it. Glad to have a friend who he felt appreciated his efforts at last, Beckett caught the Pokemon soon after, and they quickly became fast friends.

Beckett was ready to start his journey soon after, as was his younger sister. The thought of facing off against her in the Sinnoh League, or worse, not even making it into the League while she did, gnawed away at Bennett, and he was paralyzed by fear. Until the news that the Korova Region was looking to gain itself a new Champion. The idea of leaving Sinnoh for a new region where nobody knew him, where the pressure of his siblings wasn't ever-present, appealed to Beckett so much that he decided quickly to try his luck there instead. The idea of becoming the new Champion in the region's time of need was also what has drawn him there, visions of glory and renown running through his head. He and Gligar soon set out from the port at Sunyshore City, eyes on the new adventure ahead.

[spoiler=Starting Pokemon: Gligar]
892bd4a1ab954e7799990e4e864a89a1.jpg

Gligar and Beckett are two peas in a pod; Boundlessly cheerful and happy, Gligar is very similar to his Trainer in attitude. Both of them have lived life being a bit of an underdog, and Gligar sees that quality in Beckett and likes him specifically because of it. He realized this the day they met, when Beckett tried to save him from a flock of Murkrow and ended up getting bullied by them as well. Since that day two months ago, Gligar and his trainer have been inseparable, to the point where Gligar rarely resides inside his Pokeball, taking up a semi-permanent perch upon Beckett's shoulder. Unlike Beckett, though, Gligar seems much more aware of the fact that he's not very strong and has a long way to go because of it. Beckett's reckless challenges dismay Gligar very often, and Gligar is a bit of a moderating influence on him, though not by much. At the end of the day he works as hard as he can to please his Trainer, wanting to do his best for him even if, as a Pokemon, Gligar is currently not a good battler.

[spoiler=Team:]
Gligar

Male

Level- 5

Ability- Hyper Cutter

Moves- Sand Attack, Poison Sting

Other: Beckett carries a seemingly endless supply of different Pokemon masks, which he often uses to accentuate his actions, depending on how he's feeling.

Hmm so if I'm reading right he wants to be liked so he tries not to be his usual energetic self due to worry of being annoying? But he struggles to contain said energy? That's a pretty interesting thing but I do wonder how far such a thing can go. What do you think he'd be like after, say, first couple cities? Since he'd be with the group for a decent amount of time. I am a little concerned that once he gets over his initial awkwardness he might become more bland.

"Alright sis, I'll be back."

Name: Gwendolyn Deryn

Gender: Female

Age: 15

Hometown: Eterna City, Sinnoh

Height: 5’6

Weight: 140 lbs

[spoiler=Appearance]

[spoiler=Biography]

[spoiler=Personality]

[spoiler=Starting Pokemon]

[spoiler=Other]

She never caught one, she swears up and down she led an army around the forest.

black wanted me to post this -v-''

Honestly when reading the personality I thought of her as a more mid-ground between Naomi and Jacklyn, which is interesting. I don't actually have any issues that jump out at me...though it is slightly weird that the egg got to level 5 just on the boat though. But I can let it slide probably.

Debating allowing an Egg move or something so they can actually do anything to Normal types

If I missed anyone, let me know, and if anyone wants any more specifics ask me about them. I'm a bit tired so might have skipped over some issues but I'll come back to it.

Now that we have Rep in, I would like you all to give a brief, as in a line or so, description on how you imagine your character would interact with the three characters we have so far.

The next character will be chosen on the 15th.

First, I shall announce...The first accepted app!

I appreciate the edits, and the character as a whole I think I understand more than before. I wish I could say more but I didn't have huge issues to begin with. My main issue is just...deciding which of the good characters presented to go with :P

I'll try and think of ways to narrow it down, be on the lookout for that.

It's better than it was, my main problem is....Just if his personality is a better fit than some of the other characters. I know that's kind of vague but it's what I am thinking about while reading it. I'm mostly unsure if he fits as well as some of the rest.

The next character will be chosen on the 15th.

Being brief: my one weakness!!!!!!!! I'll try and keep these short but I make no promises (EDIT: yeah, its really not happening. I'll keep it to a short paragraph for both Vic and Phin). I gots ideas man. Also including Phineas in these because he and Vic are 100% a package deal.

Lets do Ivan first because he's the new guy and frankly I was hoping he'd get in with Vic because, well, read below.

Ivan is the perfect foil to Victor: a man driven entirely by his emotions and desires. At first, Victor's not going to like him since Ivan comes off as rough, mean, and selfish, and I'd be willing to wager that Ivan won't think too highly of Vic either, since he's much more on the meek side and his know-it-all tendencies will definitely rub Ivan the wrong way. The gravy here though is that the two of them are more alike than different deep down. They both put those they care about before themselves, and will never hesitate to put themselves in harm's way for them. If they get past their differences, they'll both be able to see that about the other person, and in doing so they might even learn something from the other guy's way of thinking. Ivan's the perfect guy to help Victor toughen up and be more forthright, and if he lets him Ivan will be able to learn a lot about keeping himself more calm and reserved, helping him think before he acts.

Their pokemon reflect this too. Phin and Cho will be like two peas in a pod. They have the same nature (literally: adamant) and the same rebellious spirit (complete with penchant for mischief), which means they'll either be boon companions, getting into all sorts of shenanigans, or great rivals. Neither one has a type advantage over the other, either, which means they'd have great speed vs power physical brawls, and I love the mental image of a fist fight between Sceptile and Pangoro (both of whom have the whole stick-in-their-mouth cool/tough looking badass thing going on, weirdly enough). I battle with those two on a tag team would totally earn a spot on the RP highlight reel.

Next up is Naomi, since I sort of went over Jacklyn (can I call her Jackie, Skaia?) before.

Assuming she's not sleeping or dead-set on not doing things, Victor and Naomi are going to have a lot of fun together. They both unabashedly love pokemon and get along better with them than they do people, which makes Naomi the perfect companion for Vic to bring along when he's pokemon tracking. He'd get a lot of enjoyment out of showing someone else what he's seen and teaching them about what he loves to do, and I think Naomi would love being able to meet and see the pokemon they'd find. Of course, she's a forgetful airhead and that will definitely get on Victor's nerves, since he's a guy who prides himself on retaining information and staying observant, but she also doesn't mean any harm and is very obviously a nice person, so he'd be able to forgive that about her easily. If he sees enough of her actually doing things and being sweet and kind, I think Vic might even end up developing a bit of a crush on her.

Phin and Princess would have a very straightforward mother/annoying offspring dynamic. Phin gets into trouble, gets scolded by the much larger and more level headed Ryhorn. Despite Phin's x4 type advantage I don't think there's really much potential for a battle here though. Naomi dislikes pokemon battle in general and as much as Phin enjoys a good fight I don't think Princess would find it worth her time, at least not until Phin has evolved into a Grovyle and is big enough to not easily get stepped on and crushed. The best part of having Phin around would honestly be his interactions with Naomi herself. Phin has a Don Quixote knight errant vibe about him (especially insofar as Phin sees himself), and since Naomi finds herself drawn to people and pokemon with fairy tale character traits, she'd take a natural liking to him, which would be a great way to get Vic and Naomi started on interaction.

Jacklyn's last, and I'm possibly going to be repeating myself here, sorry 'bout that.

If Ivan's going to antagonize Vic into character growth, then Jacklyn is going to galvanize him into it. Both characters are eager to get outside and explore the world, and this shared love of adventure is, I think, going to make them very close very quickly. As soon as they do bond, I can see her being the one who's always prodding Victor to open up, be more natural, or any number of other social things that he has trouble with and needs to improve on. On the flip side, Victor will definitely offer his advice regarding pokemon and training, and I think he'll be a huge help to Jacklyn as her character grows and she strives to become a more skilled trainer, kind of like the relationship Brock and Ash have in the anime. Put simply, I think they're going to be really tight and have each other's backs, which makes them perfect traveling buddies.

On the flip side, Rus and Phin seem like they'd be decidedly unfriendly rivals. Phin's type disadvantage matters little if at all to him, and he doesn't take kindly to pokemon who seem to be full of themselves, which means that as soon as Rus rubs him the wrong way it'll be fightin' time. Rus won't like Phin's pranks, over-eagerness, or manipulative nature, either so I can;t imagine there will be any love lost between the two. Both 'mons are try-hards as well, so every one of their confrontations is going to be very intense. Phin is likely to lose most of these too, which will further aggravate the sore spot I can see him developing. I think it will be good character development for Vic and Jacklyn to have to help their main pokemon get over their dislike for each other, or perhaps it will add fuel to a more friendly rivalry between the trainers.

damn I totally wrote too much. Sorry.

Also if you have any more specifics for me I'd love to hear them. I'm super eager for this and so if there are any improvements I can make I'll be happy to do so.

Now that we have Rep in, I would like you all to give a brief, as in a line or so, description on how you imagine your character would interact with the three characters we have so far.

Naomi: Naomi is a chill person, meaning she likely won't go out of her way to interact with someone not looking to interact. That in turn means she won't speak with Kanon much, which is how she likes it, and the two share a distinct love for Pokémon over people. This would probably grow into those types of silent friendship where the two don't really talk much, but they both get what the other girl is thinking.

Jacklyn: Bubbly social types can wear Kanon out fast, and Jacklyn seems to be someone that would test Kanon's patience time and again simply by being so friendly and chatty with her. It's not that she hates Jacklyn or anything; she just wants the girl to shut up. Kind of a wildcard relationship.

Ivan: Independence is a trait Kanon admires, since it makes it easy for one to live on their own. She likely wouldn't be all that impressed with his tough guy act, and it would probably start to grind her gears if she were to figure out it's just an act to look cool. Given enough time though, this could become a wonky not-quite-friendship where Kanon tries to support Ivan from a distance so he feels a bit better, without having any attention drawn to herself.

It's better than it was, my main problem is....Just if his personality is a better fit than some of the other characters. I know that's kind of vague but it's what I am thinking about while reading it. I'm mostly unsure if he fits as well as some of the rest.

I'm confused by what you said, so I will PM you later about it. Also, I will have more edits after this.

Now that we have Rep in, I would like you all to give a brief, as in a line or so, description on how you imagine your character would interact with the three characters we have so far.

Naomi: After giving it some thought, Naomi and Braden would never meet unless there is some event that gets them together. Nevertheless, Braden would be the one to pick up the slack that she would leave and not minding much at all in doing it. This would turn into a quaint acquaintanceship with nothing really stemming from it from the lack of communication

Jacklyn: She would be considered annoying and pushy to the point Braden would get angry at her to just leave him alone. However, she feels like someone that can break Braden out of his introverted nature but can be frustrated by Braden himself. This relationship can turn into a bonding friendship if she is persistent enough.

Ivan: Braden will definitely see him, at first glance, as intimidating and not worth trusting. He wouldn't talk much around Ivan until he feels comfortable, but even then he wouldn't go out of his way to get to know him even after a few days of being with him. However, he could see Braden as someone he can relate to for wanting something more in life. Ivan and Braden can be good friends because Ivan seems like one that wouldn't be super pushy or demanding if Braden is uncomfortable.

However, I would say that out of all this, his Castform, Scud, is the icebreaker to his team as Scud would go off and greet random strangers. While Braden himself wouldn't go and meet people, Scud would be the one to initiate that initial contact. Braden would apologize for Scud bothering them then try to walk away.

Now that we have Rep in, I would like you all to give a brief, as in a line or so, description on how you imagine your character would interact with the three characters we have so far.

Naomi: Oswald isn't the type to slack around, all things considered, and he wouldn't like a friend who would slouch around either.  Oswald would probably just try to make the girl do something productive once in a while, probably pestering her to do it until she decided to give in.  Hopefully, after Oswald tells her that his number one mission is to save pokemon from the hands of bad owners, they might have a common goal.  Maybe he'd try to inspire her to fight for something greater than herself.

Jacklyn: A fellow hypster would be much appreciated in Oswald's company.  Someone who could match his energy could become a great partner to work with.  Each of them pulling their weight in whatever tasks they could accomplish.  The funny part will be who is the more overbearing in the group.

Ivan: I don't think Ivan and Oswald will get along at all...at first.  Seeing the clear insignia of a Team Skull grunt will surely concede the fact that this guy was clearly a delinquent at one point in his life.  However, upon realizing that he has left the group, Oswald would most likely respect that decision.  However, when it comes to a loose cannon type of personality, Oswald wouldn't be able to consider him a good partner.  He would rather have someone watching his back, rather than the lax type who doesn't play by the rules.

Now that we have Rep in, I would like you all to give a brief, as in a line or so, description on how you imagine your character would interact with the three characters we have so far.

Naomi: This one would cause a lot of internal strife for Genevieve, forcing her to be on her toes, at least until she knew that Naomi had little-to-no hands-on experience with Kalos. At that point/as she got used to Naomi, she would probably be rather friendly with the girl, looking to spice up the overly chill Naomi's life with her contest prowess.

As an aside, she would think that Princess was absolutely adorable... Until she hears her name. At that point, it would cause more internal conflict when she heard the Rhyhorn called by name, due to memories of her father.

Jacklyn: Genevieve would enjoy her excited nature at first, but probably grow tired of it over the day, simply due to excited people being exhausting. The two would probably get along just fine aside from that, though it's possible that Genevieve's polite, showy personality would make Jacklyn think that she doesn't take things seriously, which could make for interesting character interactions.

Ivan: She would try to distance herself from him, due to her opinion of people as a whole. She knows that she shouldn't judge books by their cover, but Genevieve just can't help herself, and Ivan looks and sounds the part of a thug at best, fellow hick at worst. Genevieve desires to cut off anything remotely resembling her old life, so between Ivan's natural distrust and her own, it would be a rocky relationship before they became friends, though there's potential for them to be very close when they reach that point.

Huh, she kinda does feel like a midpoint between them, sort of. It wasn't intentional, the first thing I wrote was the Biography and I used that to shape what her personality would look like as a result from that upbringing. I only referenced the other applications so I could see what people were doing with Egg Moves and levels. >.>''

Being level 5 is just... Right, glad that isn't an issue. I like to imagine that the training didn't have any effect, Von was just floating around and sneaking Rare Candies from other, more experience trainers.

Oh right, Night Shade is actually affected by Type immunities these days. Goes to show how much I actually use the move. Unfortunately, the only Egg Move that would work for that would be Feint Attack, because Duskull gets a lot of status moves from it...

Naomi: I think interactions between these two would regularly result in exasperation from either side, mainly due to operating at different speeds. Naomi is slower, not as eager to get moving from what the application says, which is pretty good contrast to Gwen who wants to get going so that she can get back to her sister, even though she knows the journey is going to take a long time either way.

I believe Princess would end up making the interactions a lot more interesting. Gwen is very much active, wanting to get going, which works with Princess when she's decided that it's time to move on. Along with that, Duskull is newly hatched, so that mothering personality wouldn't exactly be unwelcome in dealing with the ghosty.

There's also the very real chance of Von making a game out of trying to spook Naomi, if she doesn't respond to his initial attempts. I feel like Von's interactions with the two would be pretty solid and

Jacklyn: I'm not entirely sure, yet. With Jacklyn, Gwen would probably be more reserved and less assertive, because the more dominant personality would start to overwhelm her. Unlike with Naomi, Jacklyn apparently moves like there's a fire under her ass, and while the faster pace would certainly be appreciated, I imagine that Gwen would eventually start to feel a bit repressed underneath Jacklyn, depending on how 'in charge' she actually acts. I could see this being a more rival type situation, if only on Gwen's side of things. If Jacklyn isn't particularly abrasive about it, I could see the two of them getting along fairly well.

Ivan: Gwen and Ivan would probably not get along at all at first, but I think there's potential for them to see eye to eye after a bit. Gwen ran away from her home because she couldn't stand her parents authority being held over her, but she has no disdain for the authority in general. That might cause some friction, she'll cooperate in situations that he might be more angry or stubborn about it. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure, she's fairly quiet, he's more rash, but she'd probably go along with most plans that don't involve huge law breakings.

I also think that Cho and Von would both get along, considering Von has a tendency to wander off to get into trouble when he isn't being watched.

Decided since we haven't had any more edits/new characters for a while and there's only

1 person I know will be making a character (on the 13th at earliest)

2 people who might be interested

that I know of

I'll just get the second character now.

And they will be....

[spoiler=Entertainment]Name: Genevieve Mireille
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Hometown: Mahogany Town, Johto
[spoiler=Appearance]L40AR1i.png

Julia stands at 6'2", with her weight clocking in at approximately 140 lbs. Despite this younger depiction of her with short hair, her golden hair normally falls to about the center of her back, kept in pristine condition as often as possible. Her eyes are a deep azure, though if one looked close enough, they'd swear there was a flash of pink.

Her hair is naturally an average shade of blue.

[spoiler=Personality]Genevieve adores everything entertainment, from a good song to putting on a show for all to see. Her fans have known her to be great for fanservice, always spending time with them and signing whatever they want, never failing to make an appearance. She constantly dotes on her Pokemon, keeping them in a condition akin to her own... Which is to say, peak. She is also very polite at all times, aiming to maintain a soft smile and a cordial, if not friendly, tone.

However, this comes at a price. Her good treatment of others is mostly due to enjoying the attention she receives. Of feeling like she's someone who matters, she must be if so many people adore her. She gneuinely loves her Pokemon, but her need to keep them in such a pristine condition can wear on them, or even herself, from the constant attention she gives. And she absolutely hates her past, preferring to pretend it doesn't exist. Mentions of it, digging too hard into her past, and so forth will be met with the full hatred she feels for Mahogany Town and her lineage.

She also absolutely does not trust most other human beings. Despite the show she puts on, she thinks that almost all people are selfish, just looking for their gain and hating anyone that gets anything they didn't, even if they had more. Tamed Pokemon never let her down, though, so she has genuine love for the creatures, especially her own.

[spoiler=Biography]As the third daughter of a rail worker and a stay-at-home mother, Genevieve, then called Julia, often felt neglected in her childhood. Her father was in Goldenrod 5 days a week, working for what seemed to be a piddling amount, and her mother had to split her attention between her and her older sisters, and the family had no Pokemon of their own due to expenses. Being the youngest, one would think that Julia would warrant more attention, but she always felt like she came in last place. Her clothes were what her sisters used to wear, she had no toys of her own, and she even had no friends of her own. A tiny community like Mahogany's didn't see many children born, and she was stuck in last place for the majority of her young life. And for a Pokemon Journey? If her big sisters couldn't go on one, she could forget it.

To draw attention to herself, Julia tried her best to sing, dance, clown around, and otherwise entertain people. Mimic things that she had seen on the limited television that they had available. However, the cold weather of the area reflected the hearts of the community, and even a 10 year old trying her best was shunned. "Problem child", "loud brat", "obnoxious"... She never got a kind word from anyone, except her father when he was home.

He was the only person who paid attention to her, telling her stories of the city. The lights, sounds, tastes, and wonder it held. Her eyes lit up bright as she spent time with the person who was her world. However, the extra attention that the "little princess" got from her father drew the hatred of her sisters. They tormented her endlessly when their father was away, always denying it when Julia  told her mother. Her mother instead told her to behave herself, leaving Julia to become more withdrawn over time.

Her growing height didn't help matters, either. At 14, she was taller than her mother and sisters by a decent margin, clearly taking after her father. She was constantly accused of hogging the meager amounts of food the family had, even if someone else served her. "Someone that big has to be eating a ton", her family and villagers alike would say. As she grew more withdrawn, even her father had trouble getting her to open up. It took a lot of prodding before she confided in him how she dreaded living there, how miserable she was, and how she wanted to see the city, be part of something bigger... And he promised her he would, when they had the money to.

His promised would not hold. It soon came out that her father had been making far more than he said. Enough that the family could have moved to Goldenrod for a better life for the girls... But he had spent it gambling. Night after night, he played the slots just south of his job, only managing to make his debt to the casino grow. How was he to know that the slots were rigged? That the group would be busted after milking him dry, only for the casino to be turned into a parlor for cheap card flipping games?

Her heart broken, Julia took off into the night, headed towards Ecruteak City. She didn't even leave a note as she fled, tears in her eyes. The one person she loved, the only one in the world who treated her like a person, the one who knew how much she hated being stuck in that little town... Was just the same as the rest of them.

As she attempted to go through the caves, wild Pokemon swarmed her. Golbats and Geodudes chased the uneducated girl, stumbling and running from everything that moved. As she thought she neared the other side, she tripped, a Golbat taking the opportunity to swoop down on her. The girl shut her eyes tight, before feeling a strange force go over her, the shrieks of a bat filling the air. She looked up nervously to see a woman in a kimono before her, along with a Pokemon she had never seen... Purple, quadrupedal, with a forked tail.

After escorting her back to Ecruteak, she learned the woman was one of the Kimono Sisters who ran a theater. Introducing herself as Sayo while she prepared a cup of tea, her Pokemon from before rubbed on Julia, gently purring. She stroked the Pokemon's back, amazed by how sleek and beautiful it was, unlike any of the Piloswine, fighting-types, or forest dwellers she was used to seeing. As the duo drank their tea, Julia told Sayo about her situation, pleading that she not be sent back or her parents told. Sayo agreed on the condition that she work for the theater. Room and board would be provided, she would simply be expected to clean the theater and keep the Pokemon associated with their dances groomed.

After a year had passed, Julia had come to become knoweldgable about grooming the Eeeveelutions the Kimono Sisters owned, as well as the dances they performed. It ignited a passion that she had as a child to see dance and music used in a way to bring people joy, and without being shut down. She had also learned of a different method of entertainment from the patrons and the sisters: Pokemon Contests. To perform with a tamed Pokemon, a beautiful creature that never meant any harm... It sounded like a dream come true, to her.

She had saved as much as possible, hoping to go on a journey to see the world, become more cultured. Ecruteak stil lfelt too small for the dreamer, hoping there was more to life than what she had been born to. With a quiet farewell, she took off, with one last present in tow. An egg, holding an Eevee. Gripping it tightly, she headed west, ignoring the town to the south. The sooner she boarded a ship to Hoenn, the sooner she could make a name for herself... And disappear into the world.

Around 2 years later, a star had appeared on the contest scene in Hoenn. While her name wasn't as universally known as Lisia's name was, Genevieve Mireille was still a name known to any with knowledge of contests. With her Sylveon and Milotic, she presented beautiful and entertaining shows, often accompanied by her singing or playing music for her Pokemon to perform to. Her long blonde hair, flowing dresses, and air of grace captivated audiences as she conducted. She had beauty, the figure, money, and fame, everything she could possible want. And it began to go to her head.

When she heard about the Korova region's request, its desire to revive its spark... Why, this could be her chance! She never had a chance to go on a journey herself, and she could become the star that brought joy to an entire region! Of course, she had no experience in battling, but how hard could it be?

Spending a small fortune, she had an egg delivered from Alola. From it hatched the little star that she would rise alongside... a shiny Popplio. Giving the baby the name Etoile, she began to train it with her two partner, making sure that little Etoile knew how to put on a good show... And that mommy loved her!

With a tearful farewell, she left her first two Pokemon in daycare, before she boarded a plane and headed to Korova. Excitement, anxiety, curiosity... What could be waiting in this desolate region?

[spoiler=Starting Pokemon]Species: Popplio
Nickname: Etoile
Gender: Female
Obtained: Hatched. Been with Julia for about 6 months.
Personality: Still a young Pokemon, Etoile is very impressionable. She's a bit spoiled, from how much her "mother" dotes on her, leading to her often acting a bit haughty. At the end of the day, she still has the adventurous and showy personality of a Popplio. In fact, she may be even showier than the average Popplio, in attempt to mimic her handler. She is also extremely attached to Genevieve, crying out and throwing a fit if her "mother" isn't near.
Other: Shiny.

[spoiler=Team]

[spoiler=Etoile the Popplio]

Gender: Female

Level: 5

Ability: Torrent

Nature: Lonely

Moves:

  • Pound
  • Water Gun
  • Growl
  • Aqua Ring

[spoiler=Other]

  • Theme (not what it says it is)
  • She goes by Genevieve, but Julia Rudolf is her real name.
  • Speaks with a Kalosian accent, though a native Kalosian would probably tell that it was slightly off.
  • Claims to be the child of a Kalosian actor and a Unovan songwriter.
  • Used to have an accent that can be described as "hickish" before she began her journey.
  • She used her time travelling Hoenn to become a skilled singer and musician, with violin as her instrument of choice.
  • Has some experience with guitar and piano, but she's not much more than an amateur.
  • While she has experience with raising Pokemon, she has no experience with battling or training them.
  • She has no clue about natures, so Etoile's less than ideal nature is lost on her.
  • Reasonably rich, but her funds are left safely in a Lilycove-based bank.

EDIT: Fixed a few errors and things I missed.

Genevieve! I was impressed by the character and you've dealt with all the issues I had with it. Plus I feel you'll be a dedicated and reasonable RPer overall.

Like Rep, if you want to get into the (very quiet) chat, lemme know.

Also for the rest of you, more homework. I want to know how you all think you'll get along with the other RPers. This includes both those who are in, including hosts, and those who made characters so far. Please do this in private, messaging me either here or Skype, when you do.

And please be honest. Don't just say you'll get along great with everyone.

The general idea of when the next choice will be is a week from now, but as you can see here it depends how things go in the OOC. If anyone is interested who hasn't said so please do so I know who is working on things. I want everyone who is interested to have a chance to make their character before the next choice.

Sorry it's been a few days since I touched this, but (and I give you credit here, this is good stuff) your questions really made me want to think hard about this. So, here goes:

I think after the first couple of cities it's going to hit him hard just how far he has to go, and that's actually going to cause him to likely panic and double down on trying to become stronger. I see him growing at a slower rate than most of the group, and being very aware of it but not knowing how to fix it, and he's going to push himself to extremes to try and play catchup. He'd probably hold the rest of the group up as a standard he he has to try and match.

As for how I think he would interact with the rest of the group:

Ivan- The cool guy persona he has is something that can clash with Beckett's own hyperactive personality. I do think they can become friends once they both realize the other cares about improving themselves as much as much as they do. That and I think Ivan could be a comforting presence to Beckett, since his beginnings are even more humble than Beckett's own.

A NEW CHALLENGER APPEARS Genevieve- Her entertainment-bent persona is something Beckett can get behind, given his love of masks and how loud he can be. That can also serve as inspiration to him, showing him he doesn't have to be a stoic legend to be a good trainer. Though I think Genevieve might not like him as much; The way she views people as selfish rubs right up against his desire to be Champion because he wants people to like him, and can show to him that he's striving towards his goal for the wrong reasons.

Naomi- Naomi would likely be someone Beckett looks up to quite a lot. She has a lot of qualities he admires and is trying to emulate, seeing her as brave due to her liking of spooky things and also perceiving her as being very cool because of how chill she is. I could easily see her becoming someone he aspires to beat in battle in a rival-type scenario (particularly because her Rhyhorn could easily crush his Gligar, lesbereal).

Jacklyn- Probably the one who could easiest become someone Beckett considers a friend. I see Jacklyn as somewhat of a confidant, someone Beckett can be himself around. The fact she likes hearing others tell stories rather than talk herself is something I see Beckett taking advantage of, since it effectively lets him have the floor around her a lot to talk himself up.

And the third character in...isssss.....

Hoenn represent.

[spoiler=Bitter Breeder]

jXqOx2A.jpg
"Your Pokémon really likes you. It must have pretty low standards."

Name: Kanon Suzuki

Gender: Female

Age: 17

Hometown: Fortree City, Hoenn

[spoiler=Appearance]cwmR0VZ.jpg
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 136 pounds

Commonly wears the blue-green raincoat and thigh-high rubber boots depicted above. Umbrella not included.

[spoiler=Personality]People tend to not like Kanon. That's entirely her fault; being a rather unpleasant girl, Kanon has a habit of shoving human interaction away, and acts harsh, bitter, and somewhat malicious when dealing with people. She wants nothing to do with others, preferring to be left alone so she can do her own thing. Shitty person though she may be however, Kanon should not be assumed to be a shitty human being. She's the sort of person who would donate millions to charity if she could, but would make sure to do it anonymously so that people won't come to her singing praises about her generosity. She may even compliment people from time to time, but it's rare for her to not immediately follow it up by spinning it in some weird way to make it an insult instead. Cutting out all the jabroniiness in Kanon leaves a heart of gold who wants the best for everyone, even if she won't admit it. In the same vein, she'll appreciate being looked out for, but doesn't want people to expect praise for it or to really do it for any reason other than because it would be the right thing to do.

What she lacks in people skills, however, Kanon more than makes up for with her talent in handling Pokémon. While she can be harsh with people, Pokémon are an entirely different story. Although they generally can't speak with words like she can, Kanon could hold a conversation for days with a Pokémon friend, and will devoutly study how to best care for each and every species known to man. As one could expect, she takes the mistreatment of Pokémon very seriously, and she's not afraid to intervene if she thinks one might be in danger. Already being something of a harsh girl, Kanon isn't afraid to tell somebody straight to their face that they're putting Pokémon in danger, then work to get the party in question to stop whatever's endangering them. She'd rather not battle for it though, as although Kanon acknowledges the importance of Pokémon battles - both for the Pokémon and their trainers - she believes such battles should be recreational and/or competitive, and not a means to push one's ideology. The nitty-gritty detailed stuff like that is part of why Kanon generally dislikes human interaction.

As a general rule, Kanon feels more at home the more surrounded by nature she is. She'd rather spend a night camping in the woods than sleeping in a five-star resort, and can get a bit claustrophobic while indoors. She isn't overly fond of caves either, but she can manage just fine as long as she can see an exit. Bat-like Pokémon can easily startle her as well, especially in caves, though calling her outright afraid of them would be wrong; she just needs to get used to them being there is all. Her ideal location is a clearing deep in a forest, where people will leave her alone and where Pokémon live peaceful, happy lives. Because of this fondness for nature, Kanon is best approached when surrounded by it. She might even show somebody a smile, even if it doesn't last for very long before returning to her usual serious expression.

Since Kanon's spent most of her life with relatively low amounts of human interaction, it can be hard for her to pick up on social cues sometimes. This makes her great at telling people things that need to be said without fear of hurting somebody's feelings, and most statements that aren't direct and to-the-point tend to either bounce off her completely or go right over her head. While she can be a bit frail physically, having a rather low threshold for pain, Kanon's mental and emotional strength more than makes up for it. Bearing nerves of steel and an iron will, Kanon is the type of person who will set a goal, then keep getting up to continue toward it no matter how many times life knocks her down.

Kanon's biggest goal in life is to become a world-class breeder.

[spoiler=Biography]Born in Fortree City, Kanon's was a life rich in Pokémon interaction. Her mother was an adventuring trainer who settled down to raise a child, and her father worked at the nearby weather institute. With both of her parents being active members of Fortree's community, it left Kanon with lots of time to herself and her mother's trusty Houndoom, who despite appearances, was one of the sweetest creatures in town. Mrs. Suzuki's Houndoom always guarded the house and Kanon herself, being as much a part of the family to her as her mother or father. Any Pokémon Kanon was lucky enough to meet was a friend to her, as far as she was concerned, and it wasn't uncommon for her and Houndoom to explore nearby Routes 119 and 120 in search of new friends in the wild. If something was in fact not friendly and meant harm to Kanon, Houndoom had her back, and if Houndoom - in its old age - was ever tired and needed to take a nap, Kanon didn't mind waiting patiently for it to wake up. Kanon spent so much time bonding with Pokémon in the wild that it didn't leave her much time for human interaction, and virtually none outside of her family.

Despite her growing skills at bonding with wild Pokémon, however, Kanon never really met one that felt like a companion she could call her very own. No matter how many times she and Houndoom left Fortree to explore the nearby wilderness, and no matter how many wild Pokémon the two met together, Kanon never managed to meet a Pokémon willing to join her for more than some pleasant interactions before parting ways for a while. She also refused to be just given one as if Pokémon were material possessions of some sort, leaving her mother's Houndoom as "her" only partner for her entire life in Hoenn. Eventually, Kanon's attention was directed beyond Hoenn, toward the Korova Region.

It was a place she hadn't really heard of before. There were surely new types of Pokémon to meet, she figured, and the trip was being paid for by Korova's Pokémon League. It seemed as fitting a start to an adventure as any, and so Kanon packed her things, bound for Korova. She had fully intended to arrive without a Pokémon and catch one once she arrived, but her "plan" was thrown astray during her boat trip. During a storm at sea, Kanon heard something hit her door, likely carried in by the wind or waves. She opened her door to find a Poliwag, somewhat injured, before hurriedly bringing the Pokémon in and shutting the door. Kanon spent most of the remainder of her voyage nursing the Poliwag back to health herself, since she had no Pokéball to store it in for the absolutely more efficient healing machines on-deck, similar to ones seen in Pokémon Centers. Her efforts paid off though, as a few days before arriving at Korova, Poliwag was healthy as could be, and had grown quite attached to its human savior. Even when she tried to return it to the water where it came from, Poliwag stuck by Kanon's side.

With her very first companion of her own in tow, Kanon has set her sights toward the Korova Region, ready to tackle whatever the region has in store for her.

[spoiler=Starting Pokemon]Pokémon: Poliwag
Name: Bubbles
Gender: Male
Appearance: Looks a little beaten-up due to some small scars and bruises that haven't gone away, but is in much better shape than when Kanon met him
Personality: Bubbles is a timid creature who isn't really one for fighting or meeting new people. However, he's a loyal friend - especially to Kanon - who doesn't mind going a bit out of his comfort zone if he's got someone reliable at his back. Still getting used to Pokéballs, and prefers to spend his time outside of them.
Method of Catching/Length of owning: Encountered and was nursed by Kanon during her boat ride to Korova.

Pokémon: Poliwag
Name: Bubbles
Gender: Male
Level: 5
Ability: Swift Swim
Nature: Timid
Moves: Water Sport, Water Gun

[spoiler=Misc]Has several pictures of herself and her mother's Houndoom together. Keeps them in her wallet.

Doesn't like having her fashion sense questioned.

Has a particular soft spot for canine Pokémon, such as Houndoom, Stoutland, and Lycanroc, due to growing up with one.

I had plenty of issues with this character at first but your answers to all my questions made me feel a lot better about it. Remember though you'll be on a short leash about activity, don't let me down now.

Let me know if you want in the silent chat.

And thus only one left. I will make that decision either Christmas Eve, Christmas, or the day after Christmas. Depending on situation.

Don't forget to answer all of the homework/questions I gave, it helps. And from now on I will leave it up to each of you to tell me why you should be in if you wish. I have a couple in mind but it's very not set in stone. So anything you can do to help the decision would be appreciated.

And one more prompt from me. I'd like to know how your character will do in battle and if you think they'd lose matches or not.

As far as getting along with all of you losers, that doesn't seem like such a hard task.  I've never rp'd with Black (I don't think at least), so it'll be a new experience.  As far as Rep, he's pretty chill, and fun.  No qualms there.  But Yui, Cow, and Sky...we've had our disputes...our tirades...but I tend to leave stuff in the past.  Sure I can be argumentative, but for the most part it's because I want the RP to be good and consistent.  If not I'm just trying to stir the pot.  But just because I'm not always a little ray of sunshine doesn't mean I'm a bad guy, right >:3?

Why I should be in here?  You need a dependable guy like me to post when no one has in a couple of days!  You need a lawful good character...because right now, besides Sky, you're all a bunch of lazybones.  I think my character would add a bit of diversity in terms of attitude uwu.

And yes...Oz would lose from time to time, but he would try his best.  After all, if he's battling, it's for a purpose, seeing as how he's a novice and all.  He's never even had his first battle with his little mareep yet...so I could see him losing his first match easily.

was more saying we are technically RPing together (and have been in said RP for months), but...

Anyway, Genny's probably going to lose a lot at first, due to inexperience. I think down the line she'll be more given to winning, as she knows her way about a battle, but she'll still get carried away trying to make it flashy in non-tense situations, leading to losing battles she could have easily won.

Vic in pokemon battle is an interesting conundrum for me....

On the one hand, he’s seen a lot more than most beginning trainers have: he’s done lots of field work, had had fend off wild pokemon (both before and after he got his Treeko) and has almost certainly gotten a few pointers from his older sister, who has competed in both the hoenn and sinnoh leagues and earned all 16 badges therein.

Buuuuuuuut...

All that really means is that Victor has lots of knowledge about pokemon and battle strategies. Making a clean getaway from an agitated wild pokemon is very different from battling another trainer, or even attempting to catch a pokemon, both of which require actually defeating an opponent as opposed to making sure you yourself get out unscathed. Victor’s never actually done that before. He’s had exactly one proper pokemon battle, which was against his sister’s freshly caught tailow. Level 5 starter mon vs level 2 ish generic bird? Anyone who’s played the core series knows how that’s supposed to go most of the time, but Vic and Phin lost all the same.

So is Victor going to win in battle? Almost certainly not. Pokemon battle requires good instincts, and someone like Vic, who doesn’t trust his intuition at all (I didn’t want to outright say in his app that he has confidence issues, but he totally does, and they’re a big factor here), simply doesn’t have those yet. Vic knows enough about pokemon types and battle strategies, but he doesn’t have the experience or faith in himself to really effectively utilize what he knows. Pokemon probably pick up on it too, which I would imagine negates whatever advantage Phin’s hot-bloodedness might have given him since Victor wouldn’t trust brute forcing his way to a win. The irony here is that I think Victor is going to be very good at giving whoever he’s traveling with battle advice, since when he’s not involved himself he can be detached enough to see things more clearly.

As for why I think I should be here... a couple of reasons.

Character-wise, I think Vic rounds out the cast the best. He has a lot of room for growth, both positively and negatively (and having someone’s adventures weigh heavily on them, either because of trauma or just generally failing to achieve your goals, is a theme I think would be fun to explore in pokemon), but more than that I think he’ll be a great supporting character for contributing to everyone else’s arcs. The cast doesn’t seem to have any soft spoken, logical people (or males, for that matter). Though they’re different, all of them appear to be very emotionally driven people who are either eager to accomplish their goals, or content enjoying themselves and their adventure. Victor is neither. He doesn’t quite know what he wants to do, but adventuring more for the journey than the destination doesn’t sit right with him. Having a straight man to help (or at least attempt to, be it for comedic effect or necessity) reign in some of the cast, while also having a character who is ill at ease and much better at talking about what he knows than how he feels about it, gives the story a different perspective to explore and makes whichever group he’s in more varied and dynamic. Sort of like having a Spok to balance out all the Kirks and McCoys, if you get what I’m saying.

And as for me, well I’ll just be honest about it all.

People don’t want to RP with me that much anymore, and the main reason why (as far as I’m aware) is that I’m notorious for going inactive for long periods of time. I also tend to host my own and not join other roleplays, which I think has given me this reputation for being.... elitist? Self absorbed? Something something it probably gives off the impression that I look down on the rest of the section for whatever reason. (Spoilers, I don’t. You guys are great.)

So, aside from the fact that this is an RP that looks good and is a concept that I’ve always wanted to see done well and have a hand in, I’m here because I want to be a better roleplayer and member of our community. I’m making a point of being more active and more personable in 2018, and this is a chance for me to prove to everyone that I fully intend to do just that. I really want the opportunity to make good on my word, and so I’m bringing my A game, both as a writer and hopefully as a player. We even have a new rule that will punish me pretty severely if I don’t actually live up to what i’m saying I’ll do.

In short, I’m here because I want to shake off this bad reputation that I’ve built up. And I should be here because I’m going to do it, and I don’t think my skills as a writer have ever really been in doubt.

Oh, and speaking of dedication and attentiveness, I’ve got two more characters to talk about interactions with.

[spoiler=Kanon]Hoenn Represent!

Honestly, Kanon’s character quote sounds like its adressed directly to Vic. I think she’ll see him as a spineless know-it-all who’s not cut out to be a pokemon trainer. How a confident, headstrong pokemon like Phin managed to bond with him might even perplex her, at least until she and Victor get to know eachother a little better. Likewise Vic’s first impression of Kanon will also probably be a bad one, since she’s in general a very unfriendly person and she’ll almost certainly pick on a number of Vic’s pretty obvious flaws. That is of course unless he’s introduced to her Poliwag and/or its backstory first, in which case he’ll be immeadiately aware of how nice Kanon actually is, and his opinion of her will likewise be that much more favorable.

Getting past that, I think Kanon might end up being Vic’s best friend. They both bond much more easily with pokemon than they do people, and they share pretty much all of the same interests. If and when they get past their differences, I could easily see them spending a lot of time together. Not necessarily saying much, of course, but a more implicit kind of friendship where they take comfort in the other’s presence.

[spoiler=Genevieve]Victor has no idea who she is at all, since he has no interest in pokemon contests or really celebrities of any sort, save for famous trainers and members of the scientific community. Man, Victor’s such a dork....

Which is probably Genevieve’s opinion of him. Nerds aren’t usually the most appealing people, and Genevieve doesn’t like or trust people in general. Victor himself is a bit sheepish and awkward too, and so he has even less of a chance of making a good first impression on her than other people might. The final nail in the coffin would be Phin, who’s attitude and antics can grate on even the most patient of people. I think she’d see Vic as a spineless, shifty weirdo who can’t even properly reign in his own pokemon, and I don’t think that’s likely to change because....

Vic definitely won’t like her all that much either. She cares too much about appearances, is probably none too keen on getting messy or exploring, and if and when she stops being polite and lets someone know her real opinion of them, Vic won’t trust what she has to say, either.

They’re very opposite people, and I think that makes for a good conflict. Bonus points for the fact that Genevieve is taller than Victor is, and so she might literally and figuratively be looking down on him.

Hm. I'd certainly like to join, but I'm uncertain about a few things. First, it seems you've already filled out the roster? Five people in the "Accepted Apps" section? And second, are you using Pokemon that already exist in addition to constructing your own generation for Korova?

EDIT: OK, I'm an idiot, one of those is clearly CowCow, but it still seems you have four. Or is Skaia cohosting?

EDIT 2: I really ought to have read through here a little sooner. I can now clearly see you have a position open and will attempt an application now.

Beckett is going to lose

SO

MANY

FIGHTS.

And probably will for a while. Because he's so determined to be perceived as a champion, someone to be admired, and because he's wanted to shake the perception that he's mediocre for so long, he's impatient to actually get there. He may snatch a few wins here and there but he's not going to get super far just trying to brute force his way through every fight. He is primarily going to prioritize strength of combat in his Pokemon (not to a degree like Paul in the anime, but still something he's going to overvalue) and that's ultimately likely to seriously affect how he works together with them if they see him as caring more about how thoroughly they can beat his opponents than he does about them. He DOES care about his Pokemon, in fact he cares a lot, but he's not good at expressing it in ways that aren't about their ability to battle, rather than what they mean to him personally. This is because he's emotionally immature, and doesn't fully grasp the idea that a Champion is a team with his Pokemon rather than a single unit with their Pokemon as extensions of themselves.

The fact that he's placing all this pressure on himself and on top of that isn't relying on the things that are his strengths (those being his intelligence and creativity and cheerful attitude, which he sees as weaknesses or things unfitting of a Champion and suppresses) are going to make him very ineffectual in a lot of battles. Determination will I think grant him some victories, but he's going to have a higher loss count than wins and that's something he's going to have to learn to reconcile with and overcome. I think that feeling of inferiority among the rest of the cast would be a good dynamic, especially as a lot of them have skills they are indisputably good at that Beckett is not (Kanon having excellent Pokemon-handling skills, Naomi being much more independent and able to take care of herself, Ivan at pulling off a tough-guy persona, etc). Once he becomes more comfortable with himself as a person and learns to appreciate his Pokemon more (which would likely result in him picking up on more of their natural strengths as well and expanding on them) , I think he's going to drastically improve.

I will say even if I don't get accepted, this process you've put us through is making me think about my character in ways I don't always manage. Thank you for that, because I love thinking deeply on how a character functions and it's usually a lot harder for me to do it with my own than with other ones.

Also, since Kanon has been added to the cast (congratulations to ma boi Yui), I should probably cover how they would likely interact: I think Kanon is going to actively frustrate Beckett. Her jabroniy exterior is going to bounce off his cheery self in many chaotic ways that will probably be hilarious. I get the feeling she's going to see through him like glass and easily pick up on the fact that he's ultimately kind of a poser, and she'll probably tell him that, acting as a constant reminder of how ultimately fake he's acting.

It's been so long since I've been in an RP, anything I say regarding why I should be in would be, well... Bullshit probably. I wanna be in cause a trainer RP isn't something I've done, the characters in so far have set up to be a great cast with a large amount of potential, and I would just like to be involved at this point.

I want to get back into RP'ing, really. This is the first RP in the section that really caught my attention, and I'm just hoping it'll be a chance to fall back into doing things here!

As for how Gwen will handle battles... Probably poorly against anyone with experience. She's a new trainer, her Duskull doesn't really have any actual battling experience itself, and while her sister may be doing well, it's not because of some family secret. It's just a matter of practice.

She doesn't even want to be unbeatable, she just wants to be strong. Strong enough to go back and face her sister in a proper battle, at some point. Winning is great for her, but she knows that it'll come with losses, and that she can grow from them, if she views them rationally. She might get caught up in the moment, and might not see right away that losing isn't always terrible, but...

Losing a battle tends to help a character grow more than winning, and I'm all about character growth. I won't subject her to losing every battle, that would get boring, not just for her, but for me, but... Losing battles isn't something I view as bad. Because this isn't a nuzlocke.

[spoiler=Interactions with Genevieve]

Actually, I think these two would have a pretty nice dynamic. Considering that Gwen loves contests, thanks to her time in Hearthome, travelling with a contest star would probably be a dream come true for her. She would easily get lost in the battles Genevieve had, since the girl would be trying to make them as flashy as possible.

I imagine that would wear thin on Genevieve, considering how her description of dealing with people actually stands. She'd probably think that Gwen is out to gain something by latching onto a figure such as herself, she must be faking the extremely limited contest knowledge she said she had. But the attention would probably be nice, reducing any chance of... Obvious conflict.

Also there's no way that Von wouldn't be trying to spook the Popplio. Considering they're both relatively newly hatched, it can't be that difficult, and with Etoile's spoiled nature, that would more than likely cause some friction between Gwen and Genevieve.

[spoiler=Interactions with Kanon]

At first, I don't think the two would get along very well. Gwen is naturally a bit quiet, but she still enjoys talking and getting to know people a bit, and someone who's a bit... Harsh like Kanon at first? Well, it would probably remind Gwen of her parents when she would overhear them talking about Caethes running away. And what they were no doubt saying about her, when they realized they weren't able to find her either.

If the two did get to talking, it might result in some common ground, both of them preferring to be outdoors, and Gwen's lies about her childhood leadership of the wild Buneary in Eterna Forest might be of some interest to the prospective breeder, even if she didn't see right through the lies. What might be of more interest to the girl is the fact that Gwen's sister was a Pokemon Breeder in some capacity, since the Egg she obtained that had Von in it came from Caethes.

[spoiler=Flint Hickory: Amateur Pokemon Geneticist]

Name: Flint Hickory

Gender: Male

Age: 14

Hometown: Lavender Town, Kanto

[spoiler=Appearance]
Flint Hickory is a name easily recognized for its attachment to a very unique individual. Flint is a young man of predominantly Greek descent, with short, silvery-grey hair from a genetic defect at birth and midnight black eyes that dart about, sweeping in all there is to see like a vortex, their gaze inescapable. He stands relatively tall for his age, 5'12" (as he would jokingly say) and with broad shoulders and hips. Flint is no slob and no stranger to the gym, but he is somewhat reluctant to show skin. His fingers are long and slender, but skewed from several nasty injuries and years of cracking his knuckles habitually.

[spoiler=Personality]

Flint is a friendly and bubbly fellow with an oddly cheery way of being very pessimistic. Fortunately, his grim sense of humor and outlook on life isn't some edgy all-consuming void, but rather his warped idea of healthy skepticism. Flint is always willing to lend a hand where necessary, and has no personal issues with making new friends wherever he goes. Additionally, Flint finds his hair, one of his best physical features, a defect and genuinely has very little love for it, hence his tendency to cover it up. A scientist at heart, Flint spends most of his time obsessing over Pokemon Genetics, a subject he's dedicated years to at the cost of developing any sort of standing in the world. When he gets excited, particularly regarding his work, he has a tendency to lose all control of his speed and volume, and will usually shut himself up because literally no-one can understand what he's saying or what it means. He's not terribly harsh with his Pokemon, but he is firm and commanding in battle.

[spoiler= Biography]
Flint was always the subject of mockery. His naturally glimmering grey hair was an easy target, and when people spoke of it, he developed a habit of simply covering his ears and shutting down. Nonetheless, as he grew up he found himself obsessed with genetics, and he did a great deal of research as to why his hair would be like this from birth. A group of online friends who shared his scientific zeal found his hair intriguing, which was exactly the boon it took to get him to age 10, when he got his Pokemon license and set out to find adventure and study the genetics of Pokemon! Only a year after leaving, he encountered a rare Eevee that simply refused to leave him alone. She followed him across Kanto, mostly keeping her distance until Flint determined that it was drawn to his hair, which was an almost perfect copy of Eevee's sparkly grey coat. 11-year-old Flint was frustrated with this, but was intrigued by the circumstances and decided if the stubborn little devil wanted to follow him around, he ought to make the most of it. He put a collar around her neck and began calling her "Sparkle," a name she took a shine to, no pun intended.

Three years passed, and the duo had finally explored every inch of Kanto, and it was time to find somewhere new and add to the database. Flint came for the science and adventure. Sparkle was just happy to be there.

[spoiler=Starting Pokemon]
A Shiny grey Eevee that was inexplicably drawn to 11-year-old Flint and his hair, which oddly enough matched hers. Flint snapped a little red and white collar onto the fluffy little devil and ever since she's following him loyally from region to region on his study of Pokemon genetics and evolution. Fast-forward the better half of a decade and while Flint is are off to Korova to learn more about what makes Pokemon so special, Sparkle's just along for the ride.

Team:

[spoiler=Eevee]
Eevee

"Sparkle"

Female

Shiny, Grown to nearly the size of an Eeveelution, with a Pokeball-pattern neckerchief and a thick, fluffy coat.

Level 5

Adaptability

Quirky Nature

Tackle, Bite, Sand Attack

Other: Always has snacks somewhere on him. Always.

Well, I cranked him out against all odds. If there's anything else required of me to further flesh him out or balance out Eevee, I'll gladly comply. Just be gentle, I've never played a Pokemon game in my life, all my knowledge comes from Bulbapedia searches and my recollection of the show and manga.

EDIT: Massive changes. Just HUUUUUUGE.

Flint Hickory is a name easily recognized for its attachment to a very unique individual. Three years passed, and Sparkle's bond with him only grew stronger. Though she was friendly and affectionate, she grew steadily like an ordinary animal, and eventually people began to ask why an Eevee nearly thrice the ordinary size had yet to evolve. Flint took to his study notes on Pokemon and narrowed it down.

Eevee evolved by adapting to a new circumstance, rapidly altering its DNA, which was already unstable, relative to most other Pokemon. There were only two possible reasons, according to him: either the reason, possibly the more logical of the two, was that she couldn't, and the genetic mutation that resulted in her namesake fur color and made her so drawn to his matching 'defect' had also affected her naturally unstable DNA in such a way that it was now too stable to evolve; or, Sparkle simply didn't want to change, rather she recognized that to adapt to some new environment would change her appearance, and then she and Flint would no longer look similar, possibly even reading Flint's emotional cues and seeing some unconscious fear of that exact thing happening.

Flint could never determine for sure, so he decided they were equally valid explanations, but the actual REASON for her not evolving must have been the first. Having outgrown it, Flint replaced Sparkle's collar with his hankerchief, which he'd so far been using to try and hide his hair, to no real avail.

Another three years and the duo had explored every region from Kanto to Alola, and it was time to find somewhere new and add to the database. Flint came for the science. Sparkle came for Flint.

First what is Doric.

Second, personality is for some reason in the appearance spoiler

As to the personality, hmm...I'm not quite getting what he's like.

The bio I have issue with because of how experienced he is. The intention was people be starting trainers so having that much experience at the start is a bit much.

The next bits have to do with the game in a sense so it's more understandable.

Starting Pokemon tend to be level 5.

Pokemon can only have 4 moves at one time.

Doric is basically Greek, but specifically speaking Spartan. Should have been speaking English there.

In terms of his experience, he's really kind of spent all those years studying rather than training his Pokemon, so while he knows a lot about what makes Pokemon tick, he doesn't necessarily have any sufficient experience with Pokemon battles.

And again, never played a Pokemon game. Wouldn't know. Thanks, I'll adjust his stuff accordingly.

EDIT: OK, anything wrong with this version?

And thus only one left. I will make that decision either Christmas Eve, Christmas, or the day after Christmas. Depending on situation.

Don't forget to answer all of the homework/questions I gave, it helps. And from now on I will leave it up to each of you to tell me why you should be in if you wish. I have a couple in mind but it's very not set in stone. So anything you can do to help the decision would be appreciated.

And one more prompt from me. I'd like to know how your character will do in battle and if you think they'd lose matches or not.

I did some edits to my app in hopes to make all of this to make sense.

At the current state of how Braden is right now, he is a brand new to the sport of Pokémon battling; so, it would be highly likely that he would lose quite a lot in the beginning of the RP. He is a quick learner, to say the least, so losing will only increase his knowledge in developing his own battling technique. He would be more of a support/defensive trainer than pure combat, taking all battles carefully than heading straight into the fray.

And as far as why I should be here? I’m not the type to bail on a project, I will drop everything, no matter how busy my life is, to progress the story. I can be pushy and impatient, but that’s only because I’m invested in seeing through to the end; how else can I spend my time outside of work? I have been in RP’s waaaaaaaaaaay in the past, but all those ended after it began, I want to see one to the end. I also want to make a reputation within the RP community, for this will be my 2nd RP if I get in. I also want to try to make my own RP in the future, at least a Pokémon one for sure.

Also, going with everyone else on here so far:

[spoiler=Kanon]As I made mention with an earlier post, they wouldn’t know of each other, just heard of from those from the Weather Institute. But as for initial meeting each other, she would come off like Ivan to him; rude, mean, and not wanting to be around her for prolonged periods. Eventually, it would get to the point where Braden would start to see things mentioned to him from way back and have that “!” moment. Then they’ll have that “why weren’t we friends before all this” mentality to getting to know each other and having a lot more in common.

[spoiler=Genevieve]Braden would be totally clueless about who she is, be would see her as a nice person to be around if he wasn’t so shy. She would be the least threatening person to him at first glance, probably helping her the most in troubling situations. Braden would probably spark interest in Pokémon contests through her, but wouldn’t do it himself. I could see Gene and Braden being friends faster than anyone else.

Going off the currently accepted apps, there seems to be a lot more “I know what I’m doing out here” and “I’m here to discover myself” personalities than the opposite; enough to say everyone will be friends within a few seconds, especially the loving and energetic characters. Braden doesn’t want to be here to the fact that he was peer pressured to go on a frightening journey. I feel characters being uncomfortable right from the get-go makes a better story dynamic than those who are uncomfortable from time to time. It gives the character to evolve his own personality to something that would be better for them in the long run. These are teenagers for goodness sake, and speaking from experience, not all teenagers have their individuality set in stone by this age, most of them are awkward unsociable individuals who would probably want to die instead of doing something like this by themselves.

I realize that everyone wants to have their character sound amazing with a scaring backstory or amazing pre-journey life, however, someone having a simple life wouldn’t hurt to have. So, Braden, being socially awkward, afraid of making new experiences, and wanting the simple life in a world wanting more from him will be an excellent addition to the story.

It's better, it'll be tough competing with the other "researcher" type characters. If you wanna look through the thread and give answers to some of the questions I've posed that could help me decide.

Remember everyone only a few days left until I make my final decision.
