Astro Dude
Yesterday, the good people at WayForward had just released new DLC known as Pirate Queen's Quest. [spoiler For those who haven't played it]This story happens after the Dynamo is completed, though it is an alternate retelling, told by Risky herself. Players take control of Risky Boots, and between missions there is no hub world, but rather Risky bathing. When she's ready to go on a mission, well, a Shantae clone she is not. She has her basic standard weapons: A scimitar for max damage, a pistol which is very situational, along with a seeker missile and a spread shot. Basically, she plays like Shantae did back in Pirate's Curse. She travels to the same stages Shantae went to in her story, except, and this is one of the key differences, she can go to the stages in any order. My order was Main Street first, Then Tassle Town, then Cape Crustacean, then Hypno Baron's Castle, ending with Mermaid Falls. After defeating the bosses, Risky gets a component to make the Dynamo more powerful, eventually turning it into the Tinkerbrain. She also gets new Pirate Gear. These include: Her Hat for Glidinga Grappling Hook for overhead platforming. She can traverse ceilings so go with it.A Kraken Ball, perfect for travelling underwater.Bomb Shot, for blowing up certain stones in front of her, and dealing more damage.Cannon Jump, allows her to perform an additional jump. These items can be upgraded with Dark Magic found throughout the stages. A total of 45 in all. In addition, Risky must find 15 Genie Crystals, three in each stage, to access her own hideout. The stages also come with familiar enemies, the giant lobsters, the succubi, the scorpion ladies, etc, and the stages have been redesigned with the pirate gear in mind.[spoiler Final Boss]Much like Risky in Shantae's story, Shantae is the final boss of Risky's story, and it is a clever throwback to Risky's Revenge. i.e. she utilizes all the dances from her story:Monkey: The bullet is omnidirectional.Elephant: Bigger stomp, and I mean bigCrab: Same attack Pattern as the Monkey in Risky's Revenge.Mounse: Shantae scampers then turns back to normal.Bat: Bounces around with only light around it.Spider: Think Astro Man's Astro Crush from Mega Man 8 only with venom instead of meteors.Mermaid: Jumps in the air and sprays bubblesHarpy: Homes in on you. Shantae is defeated, unfortunately, Risky's plan fails. Player's who backed this game get this dlc for free via download code. Everyone else has to pay $9.99 plus tax on the Nintendo E-Shop. Granted this mode is only two hours long, less if you skip dialogue, but it's worth it if you can get 100% in less than 2 hours [spoiler for]three picturs of Risky wearing different swimsuits, though the pose is the same. I think it's a great thing to invest some time in, so if you have Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero, get ready to hoist anchor and shove off with the pirate queen herself Risky Boots.
