Chapter 4: Cursed Earth

As the boat came close to the island, the ominous feeling was only made more realized as the group saw just what it was that they were going up against. Monsters seemed to be roaming around the island, some mindlessly walking about or merely standing still, while others seemed to be continuing to repeat the same path over and over again. While there were monsters of all kinds that they had seen so far, the most alarming and foreboding of them all was yet another phantom, situated in the middle of the island. The phantom floated still, unmoving, over a pocket of land that seemed to be blackened, practically radiating with the same kind of shadows that came off of the phantom itself. Leon tensed up a bit as he saw yet another of the foes, but turned to the rest of his group. "Our  job is simple. We simply have to clear out the threat of the monsters here so that the people of Lenemo can have peace in their seas yet again. In our last combat, the monsters seemed to change once the phantom came onto the battle, so we should deal with it as fast as possible."

After giving his small debriefing, the group disembarked from the boat and landed on the shores. The moment they had stepped foot on the shores, though, the Phantom seemed to go from listlessly floating about to suddenly snapping its attention towards the party members. With the shadows flaring up around it, it looked towards the group members and simply raised an arm towards them. The meandering of the monsters seemed to suddenly stop as they all had their attention turn in kind, and begin to move towards the group.

While there were definitely a good deal of monsters before them, they were not the only ones on the island, and they would see that clusters of monsters that weren't fighting yet start to make their way over. Specifically, ones coming from the east seemed to be the closest.

Brown is Hound, Purple is Carrion, Gray is Skeleton and Black is Phantom.

The brown spaces are mounds that are impassable (though not by flying units.)

The gray is ground is "Cursed Earth." Cursed Earth gives monsters 10% HP recovery per turn on it and gives non-monsters -10% avoid for standing on it.

Rona felt her stomach turning. There were so many of them. And she had to keep them all from attacking the group. As they landed and the creatures started to converge it was only made worse. Were they spread out this would be much easier but what was she supposed to do with them in such close proximity? She could try to go up the middle to draw them towards her but that would just mean those on the outer edges could creep past her.

Then she heard Leon's orders. The second Phantom they had seen, she had to close her eyes as she looked at it to keep from shuddering in fear, had to go down fast.

It was that simple.

"Come on, Cormag, these Monsters are hungry. Lets give them a taste of my axe!" She called out and dove into combat. The nearest enemy, unfortunately, was a sword wielder. Didn't matter, she had to try.

The girl swung her axe down in an arc and the Skeleton stepped to the side, avoiding the blow with a clattering of bones. Cursing herself, she kept her eye on the Monster, waiting for its retaliation.

[spoiler=OOC]Rona flies to the spot in front of Skeleton 1 and misses her attack, designating it as her counter.

Ada had quietly recovered after the battle, only taking a moment to thank Layne for his healing. Much like the Wyvern Rider, Ada felt a strong pang of guilt seeing others take damage for her actions. Unlike Rona, the guilt was clear on her face. She was used to jumping in and saving others... But the opposite had been true in the last battle. Layne and, dick that he may be, Susanoo ended up injured for her sake. Burying herself in her tomes for the remainder of the journey, she shut herself off from the others.

As the island neared, Ada was biting her thumb, nose buried. She felt like she was just on the verge of something new inside of herself, some power that these tomes could give her, that she herself had yet to glean However, it seemed that would have to wait. The ship seemed to have stopped, and she thought she heard Leon giving orders.

Climbing back to the deck, she managed to catch the tail end silently, only giving a small nod to confirm that she heard it. With the group disembarking, and the Phantom seemed to come alive at their presence, a chill went through Ada. Gritting her teeth, she pulled the more basic of her tomes out. She hardly even noticed Rona running off as she moved just a few steps forward herself, taking a more defensive stance than she normally did. She would not repeat the mistakes from the last battle again.

"Be careful." She spoke softly, seemingly addressed to no one. However, for the briefest of moments, she cast the smallest of gazes to Layne.

[spoiler=OOC]Ada moved up two spaces, designating Hound 1 for counterattack.

Raynor twirled his lance, narrowing his eyes and getting motivated. He was going to make sure that this time, there wouldn't be close calls. They'd make it through it just fine, and why? Because he was a kickass hero who's legend of badassness would be passed down the ages. The mission was simple. Kill the phantom so the monsters would leave. With his lance and Rona's axe, they would clear a path for the others.

He'd do it himself, but based off of all the other battles, Rona would run ahead.

Which he was right about. However, he wasn't going to let her fight alone. He charged ahead, watching as Rona attacked. He wasn't there yet, but he would soon be in range to attack!

Still, he cursed that their most damage prone member also had the fastest mount.

[spoiler=OOC]Raynor moved ahead 5 spaces. Nothing's in range yet

Layne took a deep breath as they landed on the shore of the island, his legs wobbling just a bit as he stood up and took a brief look around at the gathering of monsters. The pure number of them was a little intimidating, but maybe that was just because of the fact that they were starting to... Well, dwindle in their own number of allies. Still though, they had survived worse and with more space to work with this time, maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

So when Rona charged forward, Layne was... Understandably stressed out. He winced as he lunged forward, "Rona no! We can't afford to get split up again!"

But it was too late. With a flap of his wings, Cormag launched himself into the air and they charged forwards, rushing ahead into the frontlines of the monster's forces. Layne glanced around, trying to get a better idea of where everything was located, before watching as Ada moved forward to take a more defensive stand, a small mumble escaping him as he rubbed at his cheek softly. Layne took a single step forward as he gripped onto the Heal Staff a bit tighter, watching as Raynor ran ahead as well, a small groan escaping him as he did, "Okay... I can't go charging after Rona yet, I need to stay with the group. Rona can handle herself..."

With Raynor running forward, their defensive line up was looking a bit... Rough. Ada was trying to pull the hound in, so the best he could do right now was... Just take that single step. Hopefully if Raynor got hurt, he could make it towards the lance wielder in time, and if the hound came rushing towards Ada, he would certainly be able to reach her.

[spoiler=OoC]

Layne took a single step forward. Fear him.

Heal Staff 1 is at 17 uses and will feast on... Bones?

As the group began to move out, Leon was watched as Rona and Raynor blitzed on ahead of them, attempting to charge straight through the frontlines of the enemy. While he was fine with it, given their previous encounters with the monsters, he still didn't want them to get too far ahead of the group and especially get to the phantom by themselves. Rather than saying this, though, he figured Layne's warning was sufficient enough and moved out alongside them.

As the group began their charge, the monsters too began their own offensive. With one of the skeletons that was engaged with Rona striking at her, it managed to strike deftly with its sword against the wyvern rider, though did more a glancing blow then anything else. It was then met with a resounding axe blow to the shoulder, tearing off one of its arms and causing heavy damage to the bones overall. After that was over with, the skeleton next to Rona had walked up and pierced forward with a thrust towards the hide of the wyvern's scales, though did nothing to break through them.

Raynor, as well, began to be swarmed as the monsters  gazed upon the lizard riding draytter. With the carrion making its attack first, Raynor didn't seem too phased by the barrage of attacks as they merely bounced off his armor. It did, however, distract him enough for both the hound and the axe wielding skeleton to strike at him from either side, both cutting into him and bloodying him up on either side. Fortunately, Raynor was able to get a strike in edgewise and stab his lance into the hound, tearing through a large portion of its flesh.

All the while, the monsters from the east were beginning to make their way towards the group and would soon be upon them. In addition, while the monsters had begun attacking them, not all of them had blindly rushed at them, with some merely waiting and standing in place.

[spoiler=OOC]

So Sai, two things. One, be sure to declare what you want to counter in the  ooc of your post otherwise you will not. I gave you a break on this one because I also realized I never edited Raynor's movement score, and that it is actually 7 instead of 5 (I never edited from when he did not have his mount.)

Hakima. You have not posted in a month. If you do not post this round, or do not give sufficient reasoning for not doing so, you will be ejected from the combat.

Rona's nerves at watching the sword coming for her faded away as the attack practically bounced off, leaving nothing more than a scratch. She grew slightly more confident as she swung in retaliation, making sure to attack in the moment that the creature struck with his own weapon, and nearly cleaved the skeleton in two.

So overjoyed at the success was she that the Wyvern Rider almost missed the second skeleton approaching. When she turned her attention to it it was just in time to see his lance literally bounce off of Cormag's side.

While she was glad to see how easily she could handle these creatures she was frustrated to realize that more of them had gathered over by the others. She had intended to draw them to her yet she only took two out of five out of the path of the others.

She glanced over the skeleton in front of her, briefly considering flying around to get closer to the Phantom and dispatch it, but that would just leave more monsters for the rest to deal with.

She could go help Raynor but...it could be better for them to be held up by these creatures. That way she'd be able to dispatch these two and go ahead to draw more in.

A, rather reckless, plan in mind Rona once more swung her axe down at the wounded skeleton. The wounded skeleton who somehow had rather fancy footwork. With a strange side-spin the skeleton avoided the attack and lashed out with another glancing blow.

Rona forced herself to take a deep breath. She'd get him next time...

"Okay... I can't go charging after Rona yet, I need to stay with the group. Rona can handle herself..."

Ada grimaced as Layne muttered, gripping her book tight. She knew he needed to reach Rona if she had any hope of surviving, but it was dangerous to move forward. Glancing about to get stock of the battlefield, the monsters approaching from the east only served to make her decision more difficult. Attrition seemed out of the question, but...

Taking a breath, Ada quickly moved forward, coming up behind Raynor as she began to chant, her spell forming in the palm of her hand. Even if she couldn't make it to Rona, she could at least support Raynor and his mount. Pushing her back to Gojira's side, she chucked two blasts of her spell at the axe wielding skeleton, the first throwing the undead creature off of its balance, and the second erasing any trace of its presence.

"Think you can take the dog?"

Looking back to the group near the starting point, she motioned for Layne to follow her. Attrition wouldn't work, but maybe a tactical advance would.

[spoiler=OOC]Ada moved up three, left one, and attacked Axe Skeleton 2 with Shade, hitting twice for the kill. Designating Carrion 2 for counterattack.

Raynor gritted his teeth as he tried to fight off the three monsters that had ganged up on him. He couldn't let these things get to him. He would be a hero of legend, not someone that fell to monsters, and he'd make sure that those behind him would be safe. Still, it was obvious he still had a ways to go, seeing as he was unable to properly defend himself from these monsters. He was okay for now, but if he took more damage, he wasn't sure how he'd fare.

He noticed Gojira reacting to something, so he turned his attention to see what it was. As it turned out, it was Ada, giving him some aid.

"Think you can take the dog?" She asked as she wiped the skeleton from the face of the earth.

"Easily," Was Raynor's confident answer. He took his lance and drove it right into the skull of the hound, piercing it and killing it on the spot. He then turned his attention to the Carrion, eyeing it and seeing what it'd do. "Trying to keep up with Rona didn't work out. Mind if I stick with you guys and we work our way up to her?"

[spoiler=OOC]Raynor attacked Hound 1, killing it. Designating Carrion 2 for counterattack.

Layne watched as the group began to advance, Raynor and Ada carrying the charge forward this time. Rona might have flown up ahead, but even with the split in the group, it seemed like they were able to handle the worst that was being thrown at them at the moment... But he couldn't help but still feel a little bit nervous all the same. Thankfully, Rona didn't make short work of the skeleton she was up against, giving them more time to close the gap between them and her.

He watched as the Skeleton and Hound fell from Ada and Raynor's strikes on them, his eyes closing for a moment as he mumbled under his breath again, "Okay... If I can just hit the Carrion before it gets a chance to strike..."

Unfortunately, when he opened his eyes, he was greeted with the fact that was... Well, impossible at the moment. Ada had moved just close enough to it where he was stuck entirely out of it's range, a small curse being muttered under his breath as he began to glance around quickly, trying to think up a quick backup strategy. Unfortunately, he really was just out of range of doing anything useful. Raynor wasn't hurt too badly, so not being able to get close enough to heal him right now wasn't too damning, but...

"Trying to keep up with Rona didn't work out. Mind if I stick with you guys and we work our way up to her?"

Sweet relief, he had the same idea. Layne was so close to moving, his eyes focused on the Carrion in front of Raynor, but before he did, a thought popped up into his head. Both Ada and Raynor were preparing for that creature to charge them. But if he moved forward... "I think that's what we need to do, but I can't come any closer! If I do, the monster might come after me instead of you, take it out and then... Let me catch up. Please don't run too far ahead."

He winced a little bit at that, he didn't like slowing the group down. Especially with Rona most likely preparing to rush forwards again at a moment's notice. But with that creature just barely out of range of being able to get to him, he wasn't willing to take that risk...

With the group advancing forward, Leon moved alongside the group of Raynor and Ada, following up with them as they had defeated both the nearby skeleton and hound beside them. Moving forward with blade at his side, Leon made his way up and looked towards the Carrion that had been in front of Raynor. Taking a deep breath and straining himself, Leon struck at the creature with one heavy strike. The young mercenary managed to cleave a good chunk out of one of the bird's wings, causing its flight to become somewhat unbalanced and erratic.

All the same, the Carrion seemed to be much less focused on either of the opponents before it, instead moving to strike at the shaman who had just destroyed the axe skeleton. While it's flight was awkward, it still managed to dive and dig its beak into Ada, though dropped to the ground after striking her. Hobbling on the ground, trying to flap its broken wing to get back into the air, its attempts were cut short as a blast of dark magic was shot towards it and crushed its bones under the force of it.

Rona continued to duel with the two skeletons on the more eastern side of the battlefield, the sword one slashing at her yet again. Though the blade only managed to make a single shallow cut into her, it still managed to make yet another one against the wyvern rider. Thankfully for the wyvern rider, the the skeleton was the aggressor here and thus she found her axe strike with far more unerring accuracy against the creature, destroying it as the blade passed through it. The other skeleton attacked, though because it used a lance it both did nothing and in its unlife wondered if it had become proficient with the wrong kind of weapon.

While the group had managed to, mostly, clear the first wave of monsters, the wave behind them, rather than charge forward mindlessly instead seemed to back up. The monsters still seemed to have their attention set on the Iron Falcons, unnervingly their gaze never leaving them as they wandered in their area. Furthermore, it had appeared that the monsters from the eastern side had now come close enough to aid their allies here. To make matters worse, more were approaching from both the east and west side, though the eastern ones had seemed closer. As their current situation became more and more apparent, Leon called out, "Layne, don't get left behind!"

Meanwhile, reinforcements had also been approaching from the south. However, rather than charge the group from the back, they simply seemed to land on the Yumi. Seeing this, Susanoo split off from the rest of the Falcons to go deal with the small raiding party himself.

[spoiler=OOC]

As was said Hakima neither posted nor made any mention of not posting and as such is no longer around for the rest of this combat.

These tiny wounds were nothing. Rona remembered taking wounds like this daily as part of everyday life when she was a child, let alone on a battlefield, and that knowledge made her grow almost, but not quite, confident. She managed to, while the skeleton drew its blade back, smash the creature's skull with her axe.

Then she shifted her attention to the other one. Sure, it couldn't harm her as it was. But if she left to move on to other foes, like she wanted, then she'd leave this one open to attack the others. While she wanted to continue and follow out Leon's orders to take down the Phantom she knew she had to kill this one before doing so.

So she raised her axe up high and, with a shout of "Oh didn't see you there, must be that blunt little stick you're waving around!" Swung her axe down without even turning. Simply slashing to the right of where Cormag was facing. The axe cleaved through the skeleton's shoulder, shattering bone and causing bits of it to fly off like shrapnel, and the monster almost collapsed from the single strike. Still, it stayed standing. So she prepared herself to finish it off when it tried to attack again.

[spoiler=OOC]Rona stayed put and attacked Skeleton 5, putting it as counter target.

While the monsters approaching from the east had Ada a bit worried, the ones coming up behind them caught her off guard. That is, until Susanoo ran off yelling about his boat, in an almost comedic fashion. Shaking it off and focusing on the battle ahead of her, it looked like the first wave of monsters was all but cleared out now... Other than the one skeleton Rona was facing.

"Alright guys, let's get moving! We don't know how long that dastard can hold off the monsters behind us."

Making her move, Ada approached Rona from behind, shooting her magic beneath Cormag's flying form. When it made contact with the skeleton, it disintegrated, much like the previous one. Giving a slight sigh of relief, she motioned once more for Layne and the others to follow, before turning back to Rona.

"Huh, you look surprisingly well. Keep it that way."

[spoiler=OOC]Ada moes up two, right three, and attacks Skeleton 5.

Layne watched as the monsters around the others began to drop, one after another, a sigh of relief escaping him. He couldn't help but feel like he was slowing down the group from their chase after Rona, but at the same time, he was relieved that they were taking a reasonable pace, with Rona only slightly branched off from them at this point. It wasn't nearly as bad of a chase as there had been in the past, and even better, everyone was at least... Slightly composed right now. Ada wasn't torn to shreds, Rona was holding her own in her skirmish...

"Okay... Ada is going to back up Rona..."

Layne gripped the Heal Staff in his hands and ran forwards, coming up behind Raynor with a little sigh escaping him as he did. Light began to shine around the staff as he held it up in the air, no theatrics this time as a soothing sensation began to creep over the slightly-scratched up man, healing the worst of the injuries as he took a deep breath, "Things are going better than I expected. I honestly thought we were going to be way behind Rona at this point."

He took a quick glance over towards Rona and Ada now, his hand scratching at the side of his face as he did. The fact that Rona had back up now was enough to calm his nervous as he glanced back towards the battlefield, trying to get a grip on if he was at risk where he was at. Thankfully, it seemed like everything was too far away to be a risk to him right now. For the time being, they just needed to regroup together to prepare for the next push...

[spoiler=OoC]

Layne moved up four spaces, just below Raynor and used the Heal Staff to heal him for 23, back to full HP.

Heal Staff 1 is at 16 uses now. And still no blood.

Raynor grinned as he felt the healing magic run through his body, squeezing his hand, testing how it felt. "Nice job! I feel a helluva lot better!" Raynor gave Layne a thumbs up as the magic faded. "Now, let's herd in Rona, shall we?" He stated as he nudged Gojira's side, making the lizard dash forward. The lizard sunk its claws into the earth, making them sharply spin around the monster. He went to attack, but Ada's attack destroyed the monster before he had a chance. Oh well, there seemed to be more monsters coming their way anyways. "Oy, Rona, try not to run off without us, yeah?" He said as he got ready to counter the oncoming monsters.

With the Jourans of the group starting to form up, Leon looked back to see that Layne was still a bit behind from the rest of the group. Not wanting him to fall too far behind from the rest of them, Leon kept back, waiting for the healer to catch up while the others seemed primed to press forward. Looking to the Yonan he merely nodded at his mention of things going well. Yet, he was still a bit off put by something. Rather than the carrion and skeletons mindlessly  charging forward, they instead seemed to be following the pattern of what their enemy was doing, all starting to clump together. Furthermore, it had appeared that the next set of monsters from the east side were nearly upon them while the ones from the west were starting to become more into view as well.

"Huh, you look surprisingly well. Keep it that way."

Rona's hold on Cormag's reins tightened. Surprisingly? Did she really think that she was that weak? If that was the case...she would just have to try harder. Show them that there was nothing to fear. She wouldn't let herself become someone they expect to fall at any moment. If they just try and follow her and protect her then why is she here?

"Oy, Rona, try not to run off without us, yeah?"

"We have a mission to do!" Came her reply. "Don't worry about me, just keep pressing on, I'll take on these fiends and make a path."

Which would be even harder than she thought. More enemies were coming and they all seemed to be clustered in front of them. Almost as though they intentionally were keeping them away from the Phantom.

Rona had Cormag take off right for the largest group of monsters. She had intended to charge straight in and draw all their attacks. However partway there she noticed...an archer.

Panic gripped her heart and she began to pull Cormag away. But a glance behind her, and the echo of Ada's words, stopped her before she gave the command. Instead she ordered Cormag straight for the Archer. The Wyvern seemed uncertain but, as Rona urged him more, he let out a grunt and turned course for the bow wielder.

Rona hefted her axe and, focusing with all her might, swung the axe down onto the skeleton's ribcage. The bones shattered and, though the skeleton stood still, it seemed to be somewhat hobbled, and easy pickings for the next attack.

"Oy! That's my job to, you know!" Raynor called out. "Craving a path of victory for everyone else, that's what we riders do!" Still, she ran ahead. So much for inspiring speeches. Rona went to attack an enemy but... wait, she was flying straight at a flyer? Was she stupid?! Or... wait, was this her way of saying she trusted him to do his job? He wasn't sure, but either way, he'd do this job.

Gojira rushed at full speed, the two taking a hard left before they rushed up at the bow wielding skeleton, stabbing it with his lance. It seemed the skeleton was very fragile, as it collapsed after he stabbed it. That was easy. He just needed to make sure that he wasn't taken  by surprise.

"Oy! That's my job too, you know! Carving a path of victory for everyone else, that's what we riders do!"

As Rona flew off, Ada noticed a bit of an expression on Raynor's face, though she couldn't quite tell if it was annoyance or confusion. Clearing her throat softly, she flashed a quick smile to the rider.

"I thought it was a nice little speech, though... You shouldn't rush in and get hurt, either, y'know? Then I'll have to come and save you."

As the second rider headed forward, Ada took a deep breath, reaching for her tome. She glanced back to nod to Layne and Leon, as if to say she would clear the way for them. However, she needed to take a defensive position, so she didn't cause too much trouble...

Looking at the monster's makeshift fortifications ahead, Ada decided to turn the tables on them. After all, the birds weren't so bad, but multiples of the others would be a nightmare. Taking a similar path to the two riders, the shaman found herself against one of the monsters' mounds, preparing to sling a spell at the lance-wielding skeleton across from her. However, when she did... The first shot was as intended, but the second shot came out with more force than she had intended, completely obliterating the skeleton.

"Damn, I hope that didn't draw too much attention..."

Layne paused as he watched the others rush ahead once again, his thoughts focused on where the best spot for him to move to even was. Given how slow he was compared to the others... It wasn't like he was going to be able to make any grand moves right now, but he could at least try to distract one of the enemies.

He rushed towards the gathered group, a small sigh escaping him as he dove to the right, the light on the tip of the staff flaring out just a bit as he gripped onto it tighter, "Okay guys, once that little section is cleared out, try to meet back towards the middle so I can start healing you all! We're making good progress..."

His focus drifted back up towards the phantom further up on the battlefield, a small frown on his face as he remember what had happened back on the ship. Ada had just barely survived an attack from that one, now they had to take down another one that was arguably even more heavily guarded? Maybe if they could bait out the hounds that were next to that skeleton they could have a chance, but... It was too soon to start thinking about that.

[spoiler=OoC]

Layne moved 2 to the right and 3 spaces up to be closer to the middle of the field and closer to the group. Slow boi.

With the group barreling forward, they had managed to continuously strike at the ranks of the skeletons, one by one the monsters fell prey to the assaults of the Iron Falcons. With Layne moving up, Leon moved up alongside him, getting ready to enter the fray himself. As the healer made his comment about their progress, the young mercenary nodded saying, "remember, don't split off too far from each other." Though he had fears for what might have happened, they seemed to be unwarranted in the safety of the two riders, as both of the Carrion near them struck harmlessly at them and recieved a hefty blow that nearly destroyed them in the process. However, things began to take a turn for the worse not soon after.

Quite to the young shaman's fears she had, in fact, drawn a lot of attention towards herself. As the lance wielding skeleton was blown to smithereens, the skeletons and carrion all seemed to look towards the dark tome wielding girl and began to dart after her. One by one their onslaught began, with two beaks diving towards her, drawing blood as they had managed to pierce her flesh, with the most threatening of them being a skeleton wielding an axe. With one mighty swing, the creature struck Ada in the side and left a large open wound across her.

With fear running across his face, Leon was ready to move in to aid her, when a sword wielding skeleton approached him and delivered a swift cut, taking the boy by surprise and leaving a wound all its own. Wincing in pain, Leon didn't pay much mind to the enemy that had attacked him, however, merely looking towards the safety of one of his crew instead. Straining himself in his next slash, Leon struck at the skeleton, managing to slash into its arm and cleave through part of the bone, knocking the axe away from the shaman in the same motion. However, the skeleton still didn't seem to take its focus off its original target.

As if to make matters worse, the small wave of monsters from the east side has finally joined up and it had appeared that the ones from the west were soon to follow as well.

No, no no no no no. Rona felt her breathing quicken as she watched the horror that unfolded before her. Sure, the enemies didn't so much as scratch her, and she had managed to cleave into the bird-like monster. Yet it mattered not. They were all coming this way! Her companions, Leon, and they were going to die! There was no way they'd be able to survive the swarming monsters and, worse of all, Ada was now trapped.

Resolved, Rona ignored her opponent and charged forward. It brought her closer to the other archer but...what else could she do? No one else would be able to rescue Ada and the girl would surely be overwhelmed if she stayed there.

With a battle cry to cover up her nerves the girl slashed with her axe and sliced through the injured skeleton's skull. Her blade continued downward as it sliced through its spine and chest as well.

"Ada...no, everyone, get away! I can handle their attacks much better! You don't have to worry. But I can't let you be swarmed. The target is that Phantom. We cannot defeat it if we let these weaklings overrun us. I'll try and keep them here while you go around the other side to take their head. Do not fret, tis what I was born to do!"

She then put on her most confident smirk and faced down the horde approaching. Her eyes on the Carrion she weakened.

[spoiler=OOC]Rona moved above Skeleton 7 and killed it, putting Carrion 6 as her counter target.

Ada screamed in pain as the axe cut into her. The birds were one thing, but a weapon like that was another. Leon had come and helped, but it wasn't until Rona rode in and slayed the beast that she found the dstrength to move.

"Ada...no, everyone, get away! I can handle their attacks much better! You don't have to worry. But I can't let you be swarmed. The target is that Phantom. "You're the last person... I want to hear that from..." Ada muttered under her breath, pulling her the last of her medicine from her bag. Taking it down in a single gulp, the girl's wounds healed a bit, giving her the chance to break away from the carrion, taking a stance a little behind Layne as she winced. The birds could surely reach her, still, but she felt like she was safe overall.

"Layne, fall back! You can't take all that!"

[spoiler=OOC]Ada moved left one, down four, and used her Vulnerary one last time.

Layne winced as he watched the group scrambling to regain control of the situation, each movement just seeming to expose another hole in their strategy... What even was their strategy?! They had been doing well, but now it felt like everything came crashing down in one, small sudden topple.

As Ada began to retreat, he winced and took a glance around, trying to figure out the best course of action now that everything was just... Going downhill. He couldn't go after Leon, even though he was definitely in need of aid, and... And... They need to retreat, everyone needed to get back.

He gripped onto his staff as he nodded to Ada, before turning towards the rest of the group, taking a deep breath... Before calling out as loud as he could get, "You all need to get back here! There's too many of them for us to rush right in, we've got to try and pick some of them before going in hard. I'm going to patch up Ada really fast!"

He took a deep breath as he turned his back to the group, rushing down towards Ada to give her a pat on the shoulder, the staff starting to glow as he mumbled, "It's going to be alright, I'll try and draw a few of them away from you, I can't get away from them and heal you at the same time." He gave her a little grin, the light from the staff washing over her body and patching up the... Worst of the wounds, but not all of them.

[spoiler=OoC]

Layne moved down 1 to the square on Ada's left. Heal Staff 1 to bring her back to full health.

Heal Staff 1 is at 15 uses now.

Everything seemed to be doing alright, but then suddenly it wasn't. Ada got herself surrounded by monsters, and Layne was desperate to get Ada healed. There seemed to be an authority issue going on in this group.

Orders after orders were shouted at each other, everyone wanting to retreat. Still, there was something important, something they all needed to consider.

"OY! COMMANDER!" Raynor shouted at the top of his lungs, making sure to be heard over the sounds of battle. "What are YOUR orders?" The question was directed at Leon. After, Rona called him commander, everyone else deferred to him when it came to the big decisions... he should be the one to get people to do something.  As he waited for the reply, he stabbed into the Carrion in front of him, the creature dying from the single attack. He was sure that less enemies, at the very least, was a top priority, and it wasn't like he couldn't stop if told to.

[spoiler=OOC]Raynor attacks Carrion 7 and chooses Carrion 6 as his counter target
