Astro Dude
I heard that the Nintendo Switch will charge $20 a year for it's online services. I say this be stupid since their E-shop services, youtube and other stuff like that is free. Am I missing something here?
Flame Dragon
They are charging money for online play now because they are hoping to provide a better service and get more in line with the quality offered by Microsoft and Sony. To make up for cost you gain access to some number of retro games that can be played as part of the cost of the online membership. The price point is very low when compared to its competition to, so that is a plus. A final note is that if you don't think you'll get much use from it they have 1 month and 3 month options available. They are obviously worse deals, but the option is there. And how would I pay them $20 per year anyway?

The subscription is just for online play servers. Meaning stuff like Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Delux, and Arms won't be playable online for you if you don't pay. I will also note that the Switch currently has no VC plans announced. Nintendo has also announced that subscribers can receive discounts on select digital games and content. ~British Soul~
And how would I pay them $20 per year anyway? You'd link your credit/debit card to your Nintendo account. (That's how it works for PSN)

Astro Dude
I see, well, I don't play online mode for Mario Kart 8 anyway, so I should be good. As for VC, they'll probably have some of their old titles reuploaded to Switch, the basic stuff, Mario Bros, Mega Man, Maybe throw in Shantae for good measure, Anything but Tiny Toon Adventures and the TMNT games. I like them, but without Konami and Mr. Speilberg's permission, they can't add them.
