OCG Errata (Including cards such as Ground Collapse & Darkness Approaches)

Recommended Posts

So the OCG are making changes to reflect the new zone, and that means that some cards that didn't normally need to refer to specifically the Main Monster Zone now can cause some confusion if they can affect those in the Extra Monster Zone. For example, Ground Collapse can only affect those in the Main Monster Zone now. Additionally, Darkness Approaches doesn't put the monster in face-down Attack Position, which is kind of sad from a design perspective, but as it's such an odd card, and now that Link Monsters cannot be in Defense Position, I guess they thought that this card would be something people would start to use to counter them, so they changed it to just say face-down Defense Position instead. There are others as well, go take a look:

Guess they were really getting worried about Darkness Approaches flipping Link Monsters into face-down Attack Position How utterly game breaking (despite the minus 3)... Oh my!

Nah, I doubt that's why, it's probably because it's easier to not even worry about how the rulings would interact with face-down Link Monsters than making them in the first place, so changing the card will prevent that from ever needing to be brought up.

It's not like anyone plays it anyways, so it's much less impact to change an old, bad card that people only care about because "MAH SPESHUL SNOWFLAKE MECHANIC" than because they actually use it. It's just easier this way.

Or, they could have a ton of convoluted rulings that don't matter since no one plays it.

Or if that's not an option, just ban it.

So now Magical Hats can't protect my monsters if they were Summoned from the Extra Deck....

I wish they would have just allowed the monster to be hidden and move to the Main Monster Zone along with the 2 cards it gets shuffled with.

This just takes away potential to experiment.

How complex could Darkness Approaches' rulings even have gotten?
I think it was fun, now it's just bad.

Everything else is fine. Ground Collapse and the like can't touch the Extra Zone directly but it can prevent the other player from successfully Linking those Zones.

The dream is gone, but hey, it was fun while it lasted. Now we officially can forget about Darkness Approaches and focus on more important matters, like why has Dante dodged the TCG list every time and when column derived cards will become actually good. In all seriousness though, I don't mind either way. Power to saving face I guess

[Darkness Approaches edit]

...#FucKonami REALLY? We can't even just have it turn them off for a turn? ALL the rulings are already there!

Flip Summoning? Attack position.

Change position? Defense or Flip it. Logically Links just flip up again.

Battle? As normal for fddef, just use ATK instead.

These are all ALREADY ON THE BOOKS.
