Dova
Just finished playing Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS, and was really pleased to see the love the Chozo got in the game. Decided to draw one myself. [spoiler=Inspiration] [spoiler=Drawing] [spoiler=Digitization] Design of the armor and stuff is mostly from the provided image, but the arm cannon and helmet is taken from other artworks within the game. Also decided to try adding a shine to the metallic armor, but then I immediately realized I had no idea how to actually draw that sort of sheen. So, how does one do a shiny? Flash Flyer - Sakura
What software are you using to digitize stuff? I use Photoshop CS3 for vector art, so I can probably tell you what I use for doing shine effects (which is probably a glow thing). GIMP may have something similar, but more convoluted to do so. Anything else like Paint.NET or something, idk. Oh and I guess time to post some vector art I made of a character. Dova technically got a look at this on Discord when he asked for template because was on the sample Series 10 card. [spoiler=Yeah, it's an anthro] Background was literally made from the filter effects on CS3; I think Stained Glass texture and a few other effects I don't remember. Character itself was vectored from a model I scrapped together from bits/pieces of images; not from a hand drawing. And yeah, it's a deer (to be fair, I borrowed the antlers from some of the models on my reindeer / Flyer stuff, which I think I posted earlier on in this club). If I didn't put the antlers/stuff, would you have mistaken it for something else? Hopefully I have some time to draw stuff the next couple days. Might expand on Flyer stuff or something, and yeah, will be posted in here at a later point.
Dova
I've been using Paint.NET because comfort, but I have been trying to convince myself to familiarize myself with GIMP. I might even buy Photoshop if I keep up my drawing, but I have a habit of dropping things immediately after I spend money on them, so :(
Flash Flyer - Sakura
Sometimes I wish GIMP could do vector art as well, but yeah, it can't do everything PS can. (To be fair, normal computer can't run Photoshop w/out Wine because Linux; it can run GIMP, however. I have an XP that runs Photoshop, so...) I think Pixlr has a semi-PS that's free, but IDK. But then again, I haven't learned all of the tools in GIMP save for the ones that are most useful to doing GFX. ====Most of the tags I have in signature are GIMP made. Yemachu
Another option is to use Krita. It is a free, cross-platform application for creating art. It has some advanced features Gimp does not have (though the opposite is true as well). Here are a few examples which I believe are not available in Gimp (but I could be mistaken).Clipping mask which uses the transparency of the layer below it (useful for shading and the like);Transform masks so you can move scale and rotate your layer in a non destructive manner;Layer styles so you can apply a glow/outline/dropshadow which updates as you draw;Clone layers for creating copies that automatically update (a group is also considered a layer);Wrapping your image, making it easier to create seamless textures (requires OpenGL to be enabled, which is slow in my experience);Moving multiple layers at once.
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
I have come with a challenge for any of you who which to try! I have made an RP, with a Pokemon region I made up, and I have a few Custom Pokemon in it. Five evolution lines in total. I wanted to see if any of you wanted to try and draw one, some, or all, of them.If you're interested let me know and I can PM you the details of the Pokemon. If, when I give the details, you need more info, then feel free to ask. At the moment I mostly have all I felt was necessary for the RP.(I don't want to put the info here because I don't want to spoil it for the RPers)

Dova
I think the consistent theme looks nice, and fits the image. The eyes are a bit weird, but still a really decent image!
Flash Flyer - Sakura
Don't worry; I have similar issues when doing facial work in vector art from hand drawn stuff. (Well, and I guess maybe when I actually do it from images I build from scratch using other parts) IDK, what color is the face supposed to be (assuming the blue thing is meant to be goggles and suit)? An idea might be to maybe make the eyes more of a grayer tone to look more natural; least on the lenses. ====Idea is good though.

Flash Flyer - Sakura
Connecting the pieces probably would help you a bit, since goggles kinda look awkward without them. Coloring thing for eyes is mostly based on what they'd probably look like underwater behind. =====Also, I guess some stuff I whipped up on Christmas Eve at 2-3 am (well, it's quarter past 3 am right now at time of posting) on GIMP, so... [spoiler=Champion Flyer] This is what I originally designed; a banner. Resulting tag that happened from shrinking. One in my signature is a beveled version. ====And yeah, dualism thing. Kanji in middle reads "Champion Flyer" and the ones on either side are the class. And yeah, you can recognize the one on the right as a grown up Rudolph; left one should be obvious from earlier on. I need to fix the eye glow on mine; somehow it just looks wrong. Yeah, not drawing (and GFXing that should go into Showcase), but I really did need a new sig for holidays and stuff. Let's see what I can do later in the day for hand drawn.

It has green fur and brown spots over its body. Each of Poamoo’s four hooves is covered a coat of grass-like fur. It has two small twigs coming from its head in the place of horns and its tail ends in a shape resembling a pine-tree.Pokedex Entry: A gentle Pokemon which takes grass in its mouth only to absorb the moisture and is careful to leave the grass unharmed.Stats: 65 HP | 55 Attack | 60 Defense | 40 Special Attack | 45 Special Defense | 35 SpeedThe description did not indicate what was the source of the brown spots on its fur, so I went with mud.

Just wanted to say, doesn't posting the description kind of defeat Cow's reason to send it via PM? xDThat said, it's a nice looking leafy cow thingie. I wonder if it gives out like, soy milk or something along those lines hehe.

The point you make about the type of milk is interesting, but you'd have to ask Lord Cowcow.

Flash Flyer - Sakura
[spoiler=A miracle before Christmas]The hand drawing looks good, but my vector art attempt so far is good; sans for maybe the eyes and stuff. Well, blame Photoshop for not letting me set points properly, so...(I'll post the vectored version when I am satisfied with it.) Yeah, did this one to see if I improved anything. Also using a lot of the reference pics.

Flash Flyer - Sakura
Probably just you, given the quality GENZOMAN and the like have raised the bar to. Trying to match him is kinda a tall order. Right now, it's good enough to be used for card art. At the same time, you and Sleepy (and guess me to an extent) are one of the few members who do our own artwork for cards, so...
Dova
[spoiler=Lepash]Appearance: This Pokemon resembles a run of the mill bunny. However its entirely black, with small flames coming from its paws and the top of its ears, and there’s small amount of soot covering its fur. In place of a tail it has a wispy, sphere-shaped, bit of smoke.Pokedex Entry: A quiet Pokemon that tends to hide behind larger people and Pokemon, it releases trails of soot behind it when moving quickly. Info also taken from the OP. Tried to do the flames in the Pokemon style, but don't know how well I did. Also really unhappy with the eyes.
