Huh, our rankings are pretty different.

 

Although to be fair I rated a lot of the [exists], [literally who], and the gimmicky characters a lot lower in exchange for rating a few character higher (I like Azama as a character, for example).

 

The general sentiment is the same though, yeah.

The only characters whose gimmicks are too much just got thrown into okay or worse. I'm just sad 3 solid or better characters took a hit due to them.

 

every time i try to use azama for supports, he's just such a funking dickhead to an unenjoyable amount

His dickheadness was pretty entertaining to me, and I like his general attitude. Probably a hit or miss character, though I feel compared to most of Birthright he's somewhat more competently written.

 

I think the only gimmicky characters I ended up liking are Arthur (as you said, he's a good character slightly dragged down by gimmick), aaaaand Setsuna (the gimmick was so funking terrible it loops back into acceptable and I just personally pictured her as a stoner).

Go read their supports with one another. It's funking weird as hell and trippy.

 

Ophelia and Perry are gimmick characters, but Ophelia is a watered down gimmick of Owain with just as much genuine personality, and Perry... yeah.
