LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
Alright here's the deal. If you're in a membergroup you get the "privilege" to post without a censor. And I get the idea behind that. You posted a lot and get a reward for it.However...The point of a censor is to stop certain things from being seen. Obviously if some people are censored and some aren't it doesn't stop anything. Sure there's a bit less but it's all so wishiwashi.I propose that we decide one way or another. Everyone have a censor. Or no one has a censor. If no one has a censor, of course, I think we should actually start moderating if someone abuses this. Because from what I remember it's against the rules in the first place.Personally I don't care about swearing and censors but I know many do.So there's my suggestion, discuss please. Yui
I support this idea. It can be weird to see some people say "funk" yet others on the same page say "f***" instead. It also makes things problematic in RP and CW where your characters may end up swearing anyway. If mods are hesitant about removing the filter for everyone, what could be done is to enable it for all the standard membergroups starting at a certain threshold (100 posts?). That way you do still have to earn your uncensored posts, but it's not as difficult as shelling out 1000 points a month for VIP or 40k to have your own membergroup. It's a perfectly reasonable goal. So tl/dr yes
Ryusei the Morning Star
This have to do with the winter-speedroid-baka controversy or shard-jew comments? I do think the filter is silly. Right now it works so you can pay 2000 to cuss. I'm not sure that says anything encouraging about the orginal standards or the message the mods are tryna get across
Enguin Enguin Enguin Enguin
Remove it altogether. It serves no purpose apart from making a post look stupid while retaining the same meaning, and it's easy to get around if you actually bother. BANZAI!!!!
I think this discussion's come up before and, correct me if i'm wrong, but its a board/coding thing as opposed to something the staff put in place. I too would like to see it go, if it's possible.

Flash Flyer - Sakura
There's an option for member groups to toggle whether/not you guys can avoid the swear filter (obviously normal mods can't see what's on that list; we can assume the usual swear words are there). But yeah, we can just enable the swear filter to be turned off once you hit Advanced Member and beyond. Shouldn't take too long to deactivate for Advanced/Senior; Legendary already has it off. mitchermitcher
It acts as a filter so that new members cant' just join to spam and insult people with racial slurs left and right. If you stayed long enough to buy your way into swearing then it's sort of a tacit agreement that you're trusted enough to be unfiltered until you go overboard. That said I don't mind removing it altogether. There really isn't going to be that many instances that requires punishment. I can fill this post with a hundred mentions of fucks after this paragraph and it wouldn't really matter because the message's gotten across and your eyes would just skip over them. Whereas if someone drops say, a racial slur at someone that actually applies to them then even with the censor on, the intent is there and they should get punished for it if it warrants punishment. Snatch Steal
It's YCM. There aren't enough people joining for the sole intent of flaming to have that be an issue that can't be dealt with when it's applicable.
Halubaris Maphotika
I want to keep it because I feel superior being VIP and I don't want the normies being able to swear :/ (In all honesty I don't care)
Catterjune
Unless the board's drastically changed since last time I was a mod, the mods should be able to change or remove swear filters. I think originally I wanted the swears to be replaced with "funny" things. funk = Love baka = Bundle of Sticks jabroni = Cigar jabroni = Ninja I don't really mind the swear jar. It's mostly for the kids since, afterall, this is a children's card game website. Only stupid people with limited vocabulary swear. And if you absolutely needed to swear, for like a fanfic or roleplay post or something, there was no reason you couldn't just use tags for it. If you type the word funk on YCM it gets changed to f***. If you type the word FU(b)(/b)CK (replacing the parenthesis tags with brackets) it gets changed to funk, because the bold tags aren't bolding anything. tl;dr - If you absolutely NEED to swear... you are physically cable of doing so. If you want to swear for swearings sake, go back to middle school.

Words are words, and the words a person uses really aren't a direct indicator of intelligence, nor maturity. That said, I still support the censor because it is a functional motivator for achieving higher member groups.

Trust me my mother was working with a call center for Europe and upper class British people swear like nobody else does. Of course there are dumber people who swear a lot but theres no dramatically higher number of unintelligent people who swear more.
a bad post
I don't care either way, but if you're going to have the swear filter have it block the entire word, rather than just parts of it cause if I see a f with three * after it, me and everyone else knows that it's thefuckword, so imo make it go all the way or get rid of it altogether. Flash Flyer - Sakura
You'd have to tell evilfusion to fix the swear filter and do those modifications, as only he and the other Supers can even modify it. As much as the other normal mods or I would like to, we don't have access to that part. But really, before we do anything about it, what do you guys want?Keep the filters as they are (either buy a group or become Legendary to turn it off)?Permit Advanced/Senior Members the right to swear freely?Expand it to every member (that being said, it still does not give you the right to abuse the privilege [if abuse happens, we can just shift those members to a group that still has the filter on.])
The Nyx Avatar
If I may chime in, I'm fine with how swearing filters are right now. I can see the idea behind it and am in no immediate need/want of having it removed.

Susie
How's about we just make the filters toggleable in the settings? This is probably the best idea there is. Flash Flyer - Sakura
I don't think we can actually give you guys the option to toggle the swear filter on/off. In theory, it'd work but not sure if it's possible on IP.Boards. As I mentioned before, we can just turn off the filter for usergroups as a whole, but not individual members (either all the members in a group see things unfiltered or they keep it on). Maybe there's a plugin, but I'm not an expert with IP.Boards and even then, you know who has to install it.

New Members being shitty edgelords are no concern considering the lack of newer users making a name for themselves and how many people here are just guests that are most likely just using the card maker and not feeling the need to make an account. Or if you guys really that badly want to keep the filters then at least make them more accessible, like its kind of ridiculous that people either need to spend a fuckton of points, spend 1000 every month, or become a Legendary member just so that they can say bad words that get thrown around anyways. Like at least give Advanced Members the special opportunity to cuss like they wanna.
