Supply SQUAD

Recommended Posts

Pretty much summed it up there cake. The main issue was that it's a slow card and its incredibly vulnerable. During the DUEA era, only a handful of decks like Yang Zings, Fire Kings, and Scraps were utilizing this well because they could work well off of passively or actively popping their own cards. However now the format jumped in speed since Kozmos and Pepe, and even though those 2 decks could make this card viable, it was unnecessary because of the consistency both decks had. And on top the arrival of Pot of Desires and Twin Twisters and a speeded format and in the end made Squad forgotten. It isn't broken, but has a niche in below rogue tier decks and is a decent card to help new decks for new players.

Unlike the first week or so after it was printed, it's just too slow.

Even in multiples, they're just cantrips on their first turn. They don't give you any real value until the second time they proc, which means they might as well be other cards.

I've found it really useful in Rank 1 Ghostricks. Which is not meta by any means. Due to the number of "SS from hand when attacked" effects, being able to draw more of them and prevent yourself from running out of options is nice. Plus I use stuff like Chaos Necromancer in that Deck, so getting more benefit from my monsters dying is nice.

It is a good card, but it doesn't really push up any of the Decks that are meta-level already, because those decks are meta because they're already consistent and powerful. This does pump up a lot of the LOWER tier stuff, but not to meta level. Too much S/T removal, and too slow.

Yeah, the card was "powercreeped" before it had the chance to wreck havoc when things were slower.

Although, to be fair, IMO this has potential in Master Peace Zoodiac variants: with the Field Spell + Triangle the chances for triggering this on turn 1 should be high enough to effectively play it as an Upstart Goblin, which then either discourages the opponent from destroying your monsters or punishes him/her for doing so before getting rid of this card, while doubling as Tribute material for Peace.

Still one of my favorite cards, but then I'm old school, can't keep up with this recent "battle at lightning speed" meta.

Nothing wrong with that, in my opinion. Supply Squad is one of those cards I thought would be really cool and good, but it disappeared from relevance so quickly, but that suits me just fine. It means slower or more "rogue" Decks will find it incredibly useful, and those are the types of Decks I sort of like using anyway.

Hmm, you'd have to jump through a hoop or two, but I can see a potential onboard engine with this card, 3 pendulums, a specific Ninja, and a Scrap Dragon.

You'd need White Dragon Ninja (can't destroy your backrow while on-board) to guard these in any format with S/T Removal anywhere, and an active scale to revive a monster zone pend that Scrap Dragon repeatedly popped. Assuming 3 Squads that means in exchange for 3 extra draws a turn you're effectively hitting yourself with a one-sided Spatial Collapse by surrendering 2 Monster Zones and 3 S/T zones.

In theory it could be a fast nitro booster, but there's just so much work to it you'd never pull it off in the early game where it's most useful.
