What got Thar banned?

people are responsible for their own actions. If he did not have such a level of self control, he shouldn't have been here in the first place.

I don't think that's quite true. None of us are the worst things we've ever done. Certainly worthy of a time-out, but it's one thing to have "an episode" and quite another to have a habit. It seems kind of absurd, in that regard, that J-Max isn't banned, but Thar is. Just a thought.

I have expressed multiple times that I am against jmax having been unbanned, but I have no sway, so whatever. Permaban should be permanent.

Even then, there are avenues through which a ban can be repealed. Despite this, thar made an alternate account without the moderators' knowledge, attempting to bypass his punishment. Even he himself acknowledged after the fact that his actions were wrong.

J-Max hasn't posted in over half a year anyway.

Principles, or something.

I still don't think it's a huge deal. I'd give him time and let him back if it were up to me.

I don't know how old any of you are, but I will make the quick point that I used to be much harsher about the idea of permabans when I was younger. I'm only 23 now, mind you, but I give a lot of value to the idea of rehabilitation and compassion. It tends to work.

In what sense? Send Thar off into the wild blue yonder, to a better forum that wouldn't help to sustain his depression but also accept it and nurture it more and more? What rehab set up will you do for a porn post? Guy needs help, we can't help him.

No, just in the sense that people calm down if you give them a bit of time. Someone has already said he admitted what he did was wrong. Why would he do it again? He's not SD Dueler.

Also, for the record, I'm not here to be his advocate or whatever, I just noticed this as I was reading another thread and I was quite taken aback. It seems to me that as the site continually grows smaller, it doesn't help a whole lot to categorically blacklist someone - particularly an active poster - unless absolutely necessary.

But I'm not a mod, just someone who's been around a lot of websites for a long time.

He had every opportunity to calm down. He kept pushing it further and further. Thar was asked to take a second to calm down. We told him that he needs to do something that would get him away from the incident before he took action. He acted on his on accord, warning and knowledge of what was going to happened. Regardless of what caused him to take action, he did. That isn't going to leave. Actually, it would probably only get worse by being on this site. Banning someone is rehab. Staying away from the catalyst is how he gets better. Even if he isn't going to do it again, he still did it.

The activity on this site is dwindling. One person isn't going to increase that by anything significant. He knew what was coming.

That's a fuller account than anyone else has given thus far, and now I understand. Still, too bad.

When I say that I caused it, I kind of did. Thar was acting out because someone in the Discord chat was being a dick, and Thar wanted to show him muscle. He acted just the same as the other party, but from the victim standpoint. When told to refrain and stop, he took that as a shot to his ego and went off like a bomb.
