Ryusei the Morning Star Posted December 18, 2016 Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 Can we bring them back please? It seems the report button has become a I feel hurt by what was said button, and a pathetic outlet to vent a need for attention Negreps are the best way to high-light when you disagree with someone instead of dragging the mod team in Two sections: Debates - there's a group think going on, where people just constantly rep a certain member of their group. Members have even noticed that it has become a rep farm, ala Jesse upon Black's nuking of the section. The section is meant to be a diversity of opinion and though, not a cash grab based on the political leaning of YCM Misc - post count here was eliminated for a reason, the post are often menial and un-serious, a rep based of a good post that took time and dedication, should not be equal to one gotten for camping out in a game and counting down from 30 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
(GigaDrillBreaker) Posted December 18, 2016 Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 Unneeded reports are an issue their own. Assuming the moderators are doing their job correctly, they do not directly harm the user base. Neg reps will just be giving users a way to attack others, without any real potential for regulation. You complain about groupthink in positive reps, can you imagine the issue when one can actively decrease an (admittedly arbitrary) number that many user take pride in? Neg reps definitely shouldn't come back, especially since there's seemingly always someone at someone else's throat on here, no matter what the topic or reason is. Bringing neg reps back will only add more fuel to an already raging fire that's always lurking in the background. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ryusei the Morning Star Posted December 18, 2016 Author Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 Is positive rep abuse an issue? If it is, then please elaborate, and then we may be able to take it into consideration.Think there's a problem when the correlation between a users rep and certain other members becomes statistically signifacant As in, X user keeps repping Y,Z when Y,Z respond to A,B It creates a mob mentality that's unhealthy to debates. For example, despite me agreeing with Hina most every point, you don't see me going out of my way to shower her in reps for beating out the same talking points over and over. It's bad when a user does it, it's downright shitty when a mod does it, since those folk are supposed to be better than usUm, what abuse? People use the system. That's how it is. Negs just encourage MORE abuse. my answer was one that has been regurgitated a million times, that's not me taking a stance outrightGive me examples on why exactly negs would be bad black, not some hand wave on maturity from the Paleozoic age Your first statement confuses me; the question implies skepticism on the abuse of rep currently, but the 2nd sentence implies there is abuse and the negs would do more. Which is it Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
~~~~ Posted December 18, 2016 Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 if we had neg reps, I'd neg rep the OP OOPs, didn't realise this wasn't misc, so I'll post something constructive here EDITING Ok, done I disagree with the idea of having negative reputation markers because it has the potential to hurt my small but sweet package of reps that I have with great effort managed to accumulate. Ryusei the Morning Star Posted December 18, 2016 Author Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 if we had neg reps, I'd neg rep the OPIt was poorly written and not a work of art I'd not fault you for doing so I fully realize that /if/ neg reps are brought back that I'd be a prime target for them, but that's really not the point. If I do something shitty, which I tend to do fairy often, I should absolutely be penalized for it Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Blake Posted December 18, 2016 Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 I was saying that, from your POV, Negs just support being abused. How on earth does taking away reps, which can be easily targeted for the purpose of vendettas, compare to something that is positive and can't be used to abuse someone? One possibility that comes to mind is disabling the ability to like posts in Debates, but that sounds rather extreme, so I would advise not doing that. I do think that would be very healthy tbh. If you agree with someone, take the time to spell out why exactly you do. Some people might say it's unproductive, but it's no worse of a validation than just repping and saying nothing Yeh, mainly debates. It's not really a problem outside that other than maybe Misc games where people can wrack up an absurd 50 reps a dayDude. Nobody cares. Reps are arbitrary.So you don't care. NotedLike 2 days ago or so, Jesse unironically mentioned how she was sad the debates section got nuked since she wasn't done rep farming. I like jesse and all, and she did mean it to be funny, but she wasn't wrong about the cultist circlejerk that happens there (on both sides) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
(GigaDrillBreaker) Posted December 18, 2016 Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 About someone telling someone else? Of course not. Otherwise I would take issue with the entire game section. Even though reps are arbitrary, taking away from someone's is often seen as aggressive. I recall you being one of those who complained when armz retracted his reps. I recall you being one of those who complained when armz retracted his reps."Aggressive" I was just surprised I lost close to 60 in a matter of a day. Deadpool regularly takes 2-3 of them away from me. Amrz is at perfect liberty to do what he did, I was just curious as to what was happening. Games section devalues reps that are actually earned like the RPs people put out, or some of the really class black posts in TCG, or Brightfire and Vla1ne's well written posts in General It's stupid that you can get 5 reps for counting down from 100, but only 1-2 for spending half an hour logically arguing ethics In summary: Misc: Radically inflates reps and devalues them when posted in other sectionsDebates: It promotes a lack of activity in users when they can just laze off others to make their point I'd not kill it elsewhere. Enabling Negs in just those two sections would work too, cause that's where they're really needed to offset the post rep abuse I get most of my reps from debates, so I'm not making a huge killing off this, js It doesn't matter who gets them, it's wrong Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Aerion Brightflame Posted December 18, 2016 Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 But negs are only going to reinforce the echo chamber you say positive reps are causing; People will just downvote anything they disagree with, rather than anything of actual substance. And it doesn't highlight why something may be wrong or what have you, and eventually some mad people who are rep concious are going to stop saying s*** because of the negs. The same sort of people who you think passive aggresively target with positives will do it with negatives, and you just entrench the circlejerk or whatever. Like high thousands in ONE game alone? Just cause people don't publicly rant about it doesn't mean it doesn't occur But I'll bite, why should Misc Posts not count then? As for misc: because the post count is supposed to be representative of how much content you add to the site, and misc isn't real content. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
