Tourmaline
I personally agree with platonic realism. Humans and all animals have a predisposition to find mates that would best continue their line more attractive and beautiful. We even have a golden ratio for physical appearance. Anyway, people find less beautiful people that represent failure to reproduce or hold qualities that might interfere with that. So then, beauty is a thing that exists regardless of people. And, of course, someone who thinks their idea of beauty special would be surprised to know that there is an observable, overwhelming trend that all animals find particular and similar things attractive. Among them all I find idealism to be the weakest one, though nihilism/existentialism are generally neither very formidable ideologies (that's why the majority of people tend to gravitate toward them (they're based on being disillusioned, not a critical analysis of the world)). ~ P O L A R I S ~
Those who see a pretty face and stop there, satisfied that they've found beauty, are to me the definition of superficial. I am not at all comfortable with normal conceptions dictating mine by their normalcy, especially where it concerns excluding people as unbeautiful. Besides, people with golden ratio faces are entirely capable of being duds in bed, just as burn victims can be phenomenal. In Deadpool, the protagonist undergoes this transformation at the hands of the villain's superpower-giving torture device, after which his acquaintances and people on the street remark on how hideous he looks, causing him to be afraid to show his face to his girlfriend. Having had intense, savage, beautiful sex on several occasions with someone whose face was similarly scarred (by fire), I found the one on the right markedly *more* attractive and found the flack he got rather ironic. In the end, he and his girlfriend make out for a touching end to an otherwise course and trashy film. So then, beauty is a thing that exists regardless of people. And, of course, someone who thinks their idea of beauty special would be surprised to know that there is an observable, overwhelming trend that all animals find particular and similar things attractive. If their idea contradicts this trend, they'd have all the more confirmation that their idea of beauty is indeed special. The more overwhelming the trend, the more exceptional their dissent would be. Among them all I find idealism to be the weakest one, though nihilism/existentialism are generally neither very formidable ideologies (that's why the majority of people tend to gravitate toward them (they're based on being disillusioned, not a critical analysis of the world)). It's relieving to see the majority's tentential gravitations aren't right about everything. ;)
Tourmaline
Yeah, I always understood that meaning of beauty as not encompassing the entire concept, where I mean how physically attractive someone is. A piece of art isn't beautiful because of how it propagates survival, of course, so it only works toward being an equivocation if I use the same reasoning for what you said. One personal note on art is that it's beatiful particularly because it's useless. Also, please explain "It's relieving to see the majority's tentential gravitations aren't right about everything. ;)" I don't understand what you're saying. Ah yes, well I'll start with my typo: *tendential. I was trying to say that the tendencies of the majority can be similarly faulty about both beauty and choice of philosophy. Tourmaline
It was the typo that caused the whole confusion. Also, it should be evident that the majority's beliefs are faulty. Things that require higher fluid intelligence are not available to all, like an honors course on Wittgenstein's Tractatus. Most people do not have access to the best thought philosophies, so they would do well for themselves to settle for the nihilism/existentialism and, although I find myself an apologist of these people, the (particularly) thoughtlessly religious. It just means your statement was a given and I agree with it.

Tourmaline
Winter says Aphrodite has returned but I'm getting more of a Hecate vibe. Goddessly either way. :>Yeah, I was looking into what sort of look would fit me best and I think I'm best at elegance versus prettiness or sexiness. Something interesting you might not have noticed, but if you remember Crab Helmet's avatar when active here, the red haired guy, it was actually Battler. Or, in other words, Crab Helmet probably read and liked Umineko to use the avatar so long which I'm sure is a good thing to you.
~ P O L A R I S ~
I best knew him under his Chimeratech Overdragon avatar and might've been on hiatus then, but will take your word for it. I think I vaguely remember him using a black-haired anime girl with a red eye as an avatar for a time.
Tourmaline
He had this as his avatar at one point: Or a similar angle and expression of Battler's. The only reason I remember this with such confidence is because I only learned about the story because his avatar intrigued me. I'm sure he was a pretty smart guy so it wouldn't surprise me. ~ P O L A R I S ~
Good stuff, that is a rather nice picture. Yeah, Crab Helmet was a delight to interact with. It is a pity the way he was forced out. :(
Tourmaline
You know, thinking about people like Crab Helmet, I wonder where all the smart people went considering the lack of novel thought and totally homogeneous philosophical environment of the community. I might satisfy Schopenhauer and simultaneously belittle myself by not seeing a present genius as what they are instead of nobody worth considering, but there are some. Actually, Winter and debates prove how like-minded and vicious the people of the majority here are. It's basically the whole hivemind thing. Like, if I say anything about the philosophers I did to you to anyone else it'll just fly over their heads. I used a Jonathan Swift one on CowCow and obviously it got nothing. That's why I like you. And I think if Crab Helmet was still here I would have gotten along well with him, but you would know better. So it really is a shame he's gone. ~ P O L A R I S ~
Ah yes, the baby eater! If PizzaGate proves true it would seem his modest proposal was taken to heart. :S To be fair you're much better versed in philosophy than I am, CowCow is a clever socialite whose generated a massive rep in a relatively brief time, and Winter in particular is a poignant and nonconformist thinker who breaks the mold, gets the rabble going and is a lot smarter than he gets credit for. Tourmaline
This quote of Swift's: When a true genius appears in the world you may know him by this sign; that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. Of course he was right. In Winter's case a ton of people do conspire against him and paint him wrongly. I'm only slightly learned about it. I spent most of last year off of YCM and instead talking to a certain person with IQ in the same area as Einstein/Mozart and I learned a hell of a lot just talking to him. I even had the privilege to have a short conversation the smartest tested person in Oceania in a certain age range (good he likes anime) and so I'm kind of just slightly exposed to very high philosophies through many conversations and discussons with these kinds of people. This is also how I got over my depression, ironically. Also, I'd like to make another recommendation of something to read to you. It has meaning extremely reminiscent of Umineko's but it is a short manwha so you would be experiencing it in the way it was meant to be experienced. It's called Annarasumanara. It's what my signature is from, if you like how it looks.

~ P O L A R I S ~
Well it'd be had for me to rate such a supernatural person as I've never encountered one, but definitely prefer to have on my side, and if he'd be open to non-lethal sex then that would be fun to try too. ^_^ As for the song, I'm not equipped with headphones here at this particularly library workstation, but I like the picture, looked up the lyrics and like those too. I've encountered multiple catalogues of 50's before, so that's an interesting bit of synchronicity. One in this song by 50 Cent: And another in this passage from Lord Byron's Don Juan: “When people say, “I’ve told you fifty times,”They mean to scold, and very often do;When poets say, “I’ve written fifty rhymes,”They make you dread that they’ll recite them too;In gangs of fifty, thieves commit their crimes; At fifty love for love is rare, ‘tis true,But then, no doubt, it equally as true is,A good deal may be bought for fifty Louis.”– Don Juan, verse 108, by Lord Byron, 1819 I'm still planning on checking out Show by Rock!! and Annarasumanara. :D

Tourmaline
His name is Ushiromiya Battler because he has the very rare human quality of unlimited willpower, the catalyst to turn dreams into reality.
