~ P O L A R I S ~
Good to know, in that case will take a look at the anime when I find the time. Just finished watching Berserk (1997 series) and it had some pretty steamy characters. Pretty good show and is on YouTube and stuff, would recommend if you haven't seen already! :>

Tourmaline
Okay, I always recommend Umineko to people, but I think you would appreciate it more than most people here. It's a murder mystery that has a lot of meta/philosophy and takes a lot of influence from the Divine Comedy (Beatrice, Virgilia, a lot of talk about love) and classical murder mystery (Ronald Knox). Nobody else tries to read it but I think you would enjoy it. It also has the fun modern aspects of typical shonen though it's kind of used both as a point of entertainment and destruction (as in destroying the typical hero while deconstructing him, if you are familiar with the hero's journey and all). It uses the sound for environment and feel way too well to pass up so I would suggest reading it as a VN.
~ P O L A R I S ~
Splendid! I find anime ages...strange. Due to many reasons I'm not fully sure of many anime get set in high school. Despite that the content often seems more geared to somewhat older viewers as well. Thus I've more/less decided that, except in extreme cases, ages in anime are kinda bullshit.does that make any sense or is it totally just a cop-out? Anyway....since it doesn't HAVE to be sexual.Have you ever traveled? And where?

~ P O L A R I S ~
Okay, spent the bulk of the day on Umineko. I basically had the OST in the background while reading what I reckon is the fan-made manga based on the game. In general I found the music pretty hyperactive and overwrought (as anime OST's tend to be), but wasn't necessarily in sync so I couldn't really get the effect that the game would have in placing and syncing the themes with appropriate moments in characters. [spoiler=Thoughts on the manga so far]Battler Ushiromiya, our protagonist, has this horrible running gag of groping breasts, especially his relatives'. This starts with the first frame and is repeated ad nauseam throughout the manga. Most of the characters are very hard to like with the most tolerable being George Ushiromiya, an amicable bookworm who often serves to keep Battler's sexual assault habit in check. Maria Ushiromiya, 9-years old, has this tick of saying "uu-uu~" after everything she says (how cute! kill me). She's also the messenger for Beatrice, the sheet-disturbing witch behind the scenes. It is written that she will kill everyone, more on that later. An admittedly pretty refreshing moment right there. Most of the Ushiromiyas are like this, fighting like vultures over the head of the family's massive gold inheritance. Little do they know the family head owes his fortune to Beatrice, who is intent on orchestrating their gory deaths. More on that later. NOPE. In chess, stalemate ends the game in a draw. There's no way to "break the situation". "Turning over the chessboard" becomes a repeating catchphrase. As someone who used to play chess competitively, this probably irked me more than it should have, but I digress. "MY INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY IS THROBBING" The Ushiromiyas' servants are "furniture", complete with "I can't because I'm furniture" and derivatives thereof as catchphrases. George, good guy that he is, proposes to one of them, but she has to think it over because she's furniture. 0-to-six-people-gored-horribly-by-Beatrice's-shenanigans. I think I'll call it a day there. As far as manga go I'd give this one a 6/10 so far. Granted, it was done by an amateur fan and I'm sure the presentation was better in the visual game which was the original medium, so I'm sorry I couldn't access that, but based on what I got it just felt rather devoid of subtlety. *coughs awkwardly*If I may for a moment say a couple things here. And where? That's fair enough I suppose. Anime characters can seldom be said to be accurate representatives of real-world people, and tend to be more or less goofy caricatures with extreme character types that are voiced by people of age regardless. That said, "youthful gullibility" is one of the things caricatured *very commonly* in normal manga/anime alone (even in the Umineko series I was just recommended here, Maria is 9-years old and promises to let the protagonist fondle her breasts). "Loli" constitutes a genre on most hentai sites, and such a popular one that the biggest-budget and most well-animated hentai animations tend to include underage scenes simply because that's what's in demand, and the same correlation certainly exists between yaoi animations and "shota". At the very least, it shows the prominence of an appetite for that caricatured obliviousness towards sexuality and of the fantasy of "innocence-taking", when it's only logical that a sexually mature and sophisticated adult is better-equipped to bring about sexual pleasure. The problem stems from the objective of masturbation taking precedence over the objectives of sex in dictating demand for porn. Regrettably I haven't traveled outside North America, but within it I've lived in Toronto, Edmonton, London (Ontario), Brooklyn for a year, Toronto again (where I currently reside) and I've visited my brother in Montreal. Is my profile better now? I do rather like the banner yes. :)

Tourmaline
The first part is the weakest part and is really different from the rest of the story, so you're bound to have opinions like that (I know people who almost fell asleep reading part 1 but from halfway through 2 and on they began to enjoy it). Actually, 6/10 for the first half of the first part is almost a miracle. I'm sure Mitch and Mido would agree.

Tourmaline
Yeah, you don't really see it for a bit and I'm sure if I told you the story actually becomes very "meta" and self-aware you wouldn't believe me if the first part is all you knew. I think part 1 and the first half of 2 to the second half of 2 and on is one of the biggest changes in genre I've seen, also happening again from part 4 and on. But yeah I'm betting the confidence you have in me on part 3. Good you noted the music. It and the voice acting are a major part of it but you can't experience either. I haven't read the manga, though, and the anime is always considered a failure, so I don't know if it does the VN justice. And, well, it's not really hyperactive or anything when it doesn't need to be: The videos with Beatrice's painting are the only pieces of music you hear in the first four parts. ~ P O L A R I S ~
Good questions! Are you a furry, ice man? If so, which species so you find the most attractive, and why? Nah. I find humans most attractive as they have the most familiar neural wiring, but if I had to choose another species it would probably be snakes what with the way can only move in such a way that they feel sensation throughout their bodies and hiss with such intention. Some also have pretty eyes and vibrantly-colored scales. Which view do you think is best:Platonic realism: Beauty is a property that exists in an ideal form independently of any mind or description.Aristotelian realism: Beauty is a property that exists only when beautiful things exist.Idealism: Beauty is a property constructed in the mind, so exists only in descriptions of things. I feel as though much of our perceptions of beauty are preconceived, but that those preconceptions are largely unconscious and dormant so that it feels novel and potentially epiphanic when beauty is "recognized" by the senses. That said, I also feel as though our mental preconceptions are of this world/reality and a part of the machinery of beauty, and in this respect I reckon I'd most agree with Aristotelian realism.
