"He had to be perfect. But being perfect don’t always change s***, bro. Being perfect don’t always change s***, bro."

and

"But sometimes, we be playing the politics too much and forget who we are just to win. f*** winning. f*** looking cool. f*** looking cool. f*** being cool. f*** all that, bruh! I’ve been sitting here to give y’all my truth even at the risk of my own life. Even at the risk of my own success, my own career. I’ve been sitting here to give y’all the truth."

sums it up right there. he had enough of the false image. he knows real artists all around the states, and never sees them rise to fame because the package that industries sell can't handle real s***. the fake gets spotlight, and the real artists get pushed down. when's he last time you heard hopsin or tech9 on the radio? kid kudi? none of the realest are on radio these days. they're all undergound, and the same is true of politics. you aren't allowed to be you when you run for office, you get pushed into a box and packaged alongside the rest of the sellouts. this is honestly the most respect i've felt for kanye in years, because even though he seems to be breaking down, he's starting to no care about keeping up the facade that everybody else wants. and above even that, if he's telling hte truth on some of it, then he definitely fired career ending shots on beyonce, and ruined what little credibility was left of the mainstream entertainment industry, among other. industries.

him losing his mother might have thrown him past the point of caring.

"credibility" From what I saw he took a swipe at Beyonce and Jay-Z for their blatant support of Hillary, then proudly proclaimed that he would have voted for Trump. If credibility comes from being silent and conforming to group thing, then shame on that credibility. It's not genuine. For every fan he lost yesterday, he gained two more. People throwing sheet at him are intolerant fascists. I'm really afraid it was a concussion or something, but in either case, prayers to the man's speedy recovery

What the funk are you even talking about?  Doctors said he's had manic episodes because of severe sleep deprivation and over working.  His quality isn't what it used to be, but Kanye is still a fantastic artist and one of the best producers in the country.

And before you say anything else, Futuristic and Hop do get played.  So does Tech.  They are making waves.  You just happen to have sheet hosts.  Try requesting music.

And this has literally zero to do with it.  Nothing.  Because nobody gives a funk who Kanye endorses as long as he keeps making great music.  Stop pushing a funking political agenda when the man is physically and mentally suffering because of his career.  You have no idea what you're talking about.  None.

EDIT:  And why the funk is this in debates?  This has nothing to do with politics.  There's no debating Kanye's talent.

I'm pretty sure that disagreeing with someone's preference for president is not fascism.

Throwing shoes and bottles at him to shut him up is. Throwing shoes and bottles at someone for expressing their views about ANYTHING is wrong. I'm gonna reserve my judgment till we know exactly why he collapsed, but it looks similar to concussion symptoms

Well sure, the primary focus should in praying that he gets better soon.

Yeah apparently he was rushed to the hospital after dropping a show.  But his mom actually passed on November 10th so this time of year is very hard for him.  I just hope he gets the help he needs to recover.

Oof. Agreed, I hope he gets help. At least something that could ease the pain of the anniversary of his mom's passing.

Guys, this thread isn't about Kanye West's health and has everything to do with politics.

The man was *taken to a mental health institution against his will*.

Well it depends on the circumstances but I can imagine there are many cases that someone wouldn't be in sound mind to choose whether or not to go to a mental health institution.

Dude you saw the amount of votes pretty sure "group think" doesn't work when it was nearly split 50/50

And then you say he gained two fans for every one lost. I know you don't have the numbers but if true....

Sounds like "Group think" would be what he did.

I just meant I don't think people should be throwing stuff at him for speaking about his views on politics. I still listen to Katy Perry despite her views don't I?

I hope he didn't suffer a concussion, and am praying of his speedy recovery

That is all

didn't mean it like he didn't have depression, but i get the feeling what he was going on about, while mostly false, had some grains of truth in it. the stress he's under might have broke him, and he was clearly rambling, but you know that saying about how a stopped watch is right twice a day? that's the feeling i got while listening to him and reading through the words. he was clearly losing it, but certain portions just felt clearer minded than others to me, and i think he might not have been going completely on delirium. also, never said he was a sheet artist, i like a lot of his music, yeah, he's fallen off a bit lately, but that's to be expected when you've been around as long as he has, and been through as much.

what radio station do you have? all we hear where i live (on the main stations) are the same 7-8 "new" songs, with a few "variety mixes" thrown in. i never hear anything like tech on the top 10's, and barely hear anything even remotely decent from the mainstream these days.

what kind of radio are you using?  You can get a lot more listening out of satellite and its not much more expensive tbh.  That's how I hear music across the country.  I get influxes of Tech N9ne, NF, Eminem, some new sheet from Drake, Future, DJ Khaled, and there's a big mix.  But Q93 down here has had Tech play in the past.  Requested, but it was Fragile, ft. Mayday and Kendrick Lamar.  Power 102 also played him and it was funking dope.  Local stations for some reason down here know a bit more about underground/independent artists.

that's why then, i mostly have to listen to regular radio at work. figures sattelite would have better songs. the stations they have at work aside from the ones that go back to the oldies have barely anything on them anymore. i'll see what i can do to get satellite, but considering how my job goes, that probably won't be for a while.

Finally, someone else who understand my pain about all the "new hit music" that keeps playing. They all sound the same when you compare, they all have the same artists, they all have the same lyrics or topic(s) in lyrics (which usually include glorification of sex, and that (the glorification) is an absolute disgrace), the same beat, instruments, sounds, you name it. While I feel bad for Kanye having to go to the ER, I still don't like him at all since he is, in the case of music, part of the problem I have just described. (EDIT; When I said Kanye was part of the problem I just mean in terms of the same artists all the time.)

This constant repetition also applies in any given industry, where you will more often than not see a few big brands, brand names, or famous people dominate that industry to the point where they are the only names in said industry most people know. Everyone else who doesn't get as much recognition form the big names/brands, or just decides to operate independent of said big names/brands, gets shoved to the side where only a few people (out of all of the people) will recognize them. It seems to be the result of the way people have constructed their society around a "central" few -- and, really, it doesn't seem to be working out for us.

I mean, sure, there's some people to say this of, but Kanye is not one of them, lol. Everything that you accuse Kanye of, he's consistently praised for in the industry for the complete opposite: he's made his name on making distinctive beats compared to other people and being one of the most forward producers in the industry, for going against the 'macho' image of hip-hop and often singing about introspective lyrics.

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to get at. You seem to be surprised that big names get more attention than up and coming ones. It's perfectly fine to champion the big names, if the big names and brands are what you enjoy. If you find that those aren't working out for you, you will naturally look elsewhere. There is always something for everyone. Indie labels, games, artists often are just more niche and have less broad appeal: it is not some grand injustice if you're not seeing everyone play it or use it everywhere. Not to mention, this is basically a moot point for Kanye. Why are we surprised that someone who's been in the industry for 20 years is now big? He started out in the exact same place, doing something pretty new, pretty fresh, and he got noticed.

Well, I was just ranting about big names/brands in general after linking to Vlaine's comment. I'm not trying to say what you said is wrong. I'm just a bit frustrated that the big titles have the huge amount of influence that they do out. I wouldn't know about Kanye's music (I never listen to it unless it comes up on the radio) but I don't understand how the rest of the music industry can repeat the same formula so often and get away with it as long as they have. I guesstimate that if you took any 2 songs from "new hit music" and compared them, more often than not they will sound similar in many aspects, and especially if they are by the same artist (with a few exceptions).

(One thing I forgot to mention in my previous rant by the way is how the record industry seemingly tries to control every aspect of the artist's public lives -- basically slavery except under the guise of business. (Remember the Kesha and Dr Luke scandal that broke out?) Read that contract thoroughly before you decide whether to sign, artist hopefuls.)

  • 2 weeks later...

this cannot be happening. not sure if it'd be the best of ideas, but i still want it regardless.

really though, it probably wasn't a political visit, or at least not for cabinet reasons. i still want it, but i don't think that would be the best of ideas.
