My thoughts on Predaplants

Recommended Posts

Feel free to lock this topic for whatever reason you can come up with, but whatever... This is just my half-assed/worthless opinion on this set.

This archetype has my attention.

And it's almost enough to get me back into Yugioh, however...

Main Deck bastards:

Flytrap's stats are laughable. It's secondary effect is crippled because at most this would just run over 1 monster, then immediately be run over by everything else, or just continue to be useless. Also this card honestly doesn't do anything.

Moray- What the honest funk. everything that's bad about this Archetype, this card single-handily embodies.

Squid is nice because it's 2nd effect doesn't target, and can even go off if it's used as Fusion fodder- But that's it. It does absolutely nothing else. IE, it's competing with the rest of the Archetype for even a basic Normal Summon. Wish this funker had 0 DEF, though.

Hydra; I REALLY wish this were a Level 4. I'd even settle for a Level 3. Being a 5 is an insult, unless I'm missing something about this. It's ability to eat opposing monsters to revive itself is adorable, though.

Pteropen is really cute for what it can do. Being Level 3 is fine for something that isn't purely dependent on Pred Counters. Having more ATK would have been nice.

Sarracen; funking beautiful. Much like Squid, I also wish this had 0 DEF. I don't really get why it has the hard OPT clause, unless they were afraid of some kind of OTK involving constantly reviving This with Grafts that you would search; oh, wait, every other Deck can do similar things, but are allowed to get away with it. I see how it is...

Spino; This is the reason why I wish other Predaplants had 0 DEF; Recurring Nightmare is a horribly underrated card. Much like Sarracen, this is also a fantastic card within the Archetype. Mainly because it doesn't give a funk if Pred counters are out, as it's a Level 4; lets be honest, there is almost always a leftover Level 4 hanging around on everyone's field.

Sundew's inability to make Greedy Fusion is a little bothersome, but it's still fantatic for what it can do, despite being a gimmick at best.

Cards you likely rely on:

Planter negates the Summoned monster's effect; this is depressing because Fly, Spino, Sundew, and Pteropen would benefit from hitting the field more and would give This card more utility. But hey, at least Squid can place more counters; that's something.... Right?

Graft is Premature Burial for Predaplants and is searchable by cards in the Archetype itself; how nice.

Planet would be so much better if it were a Continuous Spell, or at least, a funking Field. Really, the search effect on this card feels like a chore to have to work with. The 2nd effect of This card is cute, though, on the off chance you lack a Poly card of sorts, despite the fact Ygo has like 9001 cards that search/recycle/etc Poly.

Extra Deck Nonsense:

Chimera is like the best card in the Deck. Seriously, this funker is incredible.

Drago; Oh, hey, you can make this with Norden- Aaaaaand that's it. Being a quick effect that places Counters and negates the effects of stuff with said counters is cute. Sucks that this doesn't have anything else going for it.

Greedy- I don't really understand the need for a Predaplant as a Material; it makes sense, theme wise, but it's unnecessary. And it's not like the Archetype will ever strive to make This thing, outside of, I don't know, tossing out a random-ass Dragon's Mirror or whatever.

By the end of the day this Archetype sucks because everything but Squid has to target things. And we all know how well targeting is treated in today's Ygo.

And Spino is the only card that ever really does anything.

How is Flytrap useless, exactly? Every time it murders something with its effect, it GAINS their original level. You counter a level 4 and run it down, and it becomes 6. Plus it's pretty consistent in laying down counters. It's basically there to eat up 1 effect destruction, since once it gets going it'll keep running sheet down.

Also, Sundew CAN make GVFD.

Is this some kind of troll post Arm?

Planter is even better because Sarracen doesn't care if its effects on the field are negated for it's search effect.

Also Sundew can make Greedy. I'm confused why you'd think otherwise.

I find that the best way to get to Greedy is to play Mask Change II, going into Anki. Obviously you play Dark Law as well, but Anki being level 8 either gives you that material or gives a monster to banish for Greedy to revive itself. Also a good way to get Planet in the graveyard.

Everything else, for the most part, I agree with. Moray, Squid, and Hydra are kinda disappointing. Flytrap is ~ok, but only if you literally have nothing better to do, just because he can become insurmountable in battle after eating even just a level 4 (Barring Xyz monsters, of course).

I suppose in all my resent towards an Archetype that looked promising, I didn't really care for the fact Greedy said "original level".

Rumours suggest more support in MACR, it's possible they'll fill the gaps in the deck.

Predaplant Pack Filler

Spell/Quick

Add 1 "Preda" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Predaplant Pack Filler". Then, Place 1 Predator Counter on all face-up monsters your opponent controls, and if any of them are Level 2 or higher, they become Level 1 as long as they have a Predator Counter. Then, for the rest of the turn, your opponent cannot use monsters they control with Predator Counters as material for a Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Summon, nor can they Tribute monsters they control with Predator Counters. During your Main Phase, if you control a "Predaplant" monster, you can Banish this card from your Graveyard: All face-up monsters your opponent controls lose 1000 ATK.

the only problem with predaplants is their name change the fact that theres not a card that just puts predator counters on everything at once

inb4 they get their own Planet Pollutant Virus, named Predator Plant Virus, coincidentally ending with the same acronym as the Alien virus :v

I have not checked out the archetype thoroughly to have more to say. If anything, I like that Dragonstapelia has semi-generic material requirements.
