RIP Frog the Jam (rename)

Recommended Posts

Slime toad is pretty cute, although Kinetic Soldier sounds better than Cipher Soldier.

Not sure why Konami didn't do this years ago.

It wasn't important until they found they didn't have the space to write except "Frog the Jam" on Toadally Awesome. Seriously, the text on that card fits perfectly.

Now watch as Konami makes a "Slime" archtype to which "Slime Toad" does not belong.

Anyhow, these namechanges were long overdue (well maybe not for "Kinetic Soldier" considering it could get an archtype clause and was only needed recently). Wonder why they didn't do it earlier. Unfortunatly it won't do much for the viability of these cards.

Black Dragon Chick I agree was overdue. As for Cipher Soldier, yeah I also wondered why they didn't do that earlier considering Cipher Wing (from DoL: Unleashed) had Kinetic Soldier in its effect, whereas the INOV Ciphers don't.

Now watch as Konami makes a "Slime" archetype to which "Slime Toad" does not belong.

I'd laugh if that happens.

I would assume that these new printed names will be reprinted in a future OTS pack or something.

And I assumed correctly, not that it's a surprise as they will be in OTS pack 3.

Marie and Reficule names are getting changed as well

Again, that's not surprising given their Darklords and with Destiny Soldiers literally round le corner it was good timing.

I can understand it when the only difference is in the symbols used in Japan. THEN Konami of America is kind of screwed, but their name changing for the sake of name changing has been counter-productive since the dawn of the game.

One can sort of see it back when archetypes weren't much of a thing, but for example, the Archfiend cards that started being a thing back in 2007... Archfiends are actually one of the best examples of history repeated: They still printed Summoned Skull a couple times almost right before the errata finally kicked in, as if 9 years too late wasn't bad enough.

Now they reprinted B. Chick after so long and they just happened to do it right before that edition becomes obsolete. That's pretty much outdated filler at this point so it feels wrong they'd even include it before the change. Didn't this happen with Sinister Serpent's errata too? Like, its reprint as a secret rare came in some Legendary Collection after not being touched since Goat Format days, and then suddenly they had to re-reprint it in common with the errata. Errata that came in like a year after Japan had announced it.

Not surprised though.

Now waiting for Konami's timely actions and "we can change the list with all the freedom now because no dates established" powers to not legalize errata'd Sangan just like they didn't legalize errata'd DMoC for a little while.

Granted, erratas in effects are kind of off-topic when it is about name changes.
