..Is this true? I know, I know, the source, but why the HELL do you think I'm asking? BECAUSE where I found this is unreliable, and becuase NOTHING would surprise me at this point. This election is a sorry-ass joke.

After looking at a couple articles and skimming the official platform (here, if you're interested: https://prod-static-ngop-pbl.s3.amazonaws.com/media/documents/DRAFT_12_FINAL[1]-ben_1468872234.pdf), I can confirm they want an abortion ban, and although it's not outright stated, banning gay marriage is extremely heavily implied to the point it's undeniably what they want. As for the other stuff, conversion therapy wasn't explicitly mentioned, and neither was a complete lack of background checks. I wouldn't be surprised if conversion therapy was implied in there somewhere given how anti-LGBT the whole thing seems to be. Not really sure about background checks, all I got from the 2nd amendment section is "Democrats bad." Another thing to note is that they basically outright stated they want the government to run with God's will in mind, and encouraged studying the Bible in public school. So there's that.

And do remember, Trump has said things that contradict some of the more extreme positions in the platform, so this isn't ammunition to use against him.

True, but trusting his word is next to impossible, and is like how Europe trusted Hitler saying he would stop "after he took over one more".

In other words, I wouldn't trust him. Ever. Actions speak louder than words,, but in the chance he's full of sheet, it is too late for that test.

Don't forget that he wants to eat the kidneys of every Indian american, raze every forest, nuke india, and re-annex canada.

And besides, he wants to give those poor people jobs so they can actually get out of poverty and stop the debt exploding, is still all about legal immigration at any time, and doesn't seem to care about LGBT or abortion. Big deal.

Pence denies that smoking causes cancer.

That is a frankly impressive level of denial. I'm sure it's entirely because he's paid by tobacco companies, but still.

I am far too impressed to be angry about that.

If we want some other entertaining story circulating around at the moment, Trump has returned to attacking Ted Cruz's wife and father.

http://www.chron.com/news/politics/article/Trump-now-GOP-nominee-returns-to-fighting-8403508.php

Namely just bringing it up again to the media, including reference his insinuations about Cruz's dad having some link to Lee Harvey Oswald.

Just putting this out there. The number of Cruz delegates on the Platform committee far outweighed the Trump ones. I get that y'all are looking for any and all dirt on Trump, but it's not really Trump's fault there. It was hard enough to get the ant-Russia wording removed and to get them to back down on NAFTA and the TPP.

Trump's delegates were the ones who gave a gay man who openly came out a standing ovation

Trump was the man who stood up for Trans rights in NY and NC

Trump is the one who gave a gay man the most coveted prime time speaking spot

So yes, actions so speak louder. Despite Jord being a dramatic jabroni and Tom and Hoopy egging him on. Trump is a moderate to a liberal on Social issues

Hillary and the DNC were laughing about how you guys were a brand who would follow them anywhere without any thought. Good job proving them right

As for abortion, the three Exceptions is a far more rational way of controlling it instead of "everything is legal"

Defunding PP until they embrace the 3E makes perfect sense. Pence is a jabroni. He was needed to get the religious right from Cruz. He's just a tool to get to the WH

Ok, I'll give you dramatic, because...well...I am......and that is something I'm trying to work on, but can you blame me for being suspicious and not wanting to trust him? This is one of the many reasons why I usually avoid stuf like this. It brings out my ugly side. I'm just worried that the country is going to turn into a freaking modern day Nazi Germany.

I have been betrayed many times in my life. Growing up, when I was in school ( before I graudated ), people would say "Hey, sorry I was a jerk to you in the past. I'm a new person now."

I wanted to believe them, and give them the benefit of the doubt, so I did, and they hadn't changed at all. Didn't help none of my friends were ever in any of my classes. As a result, I have an EXTREMELY hard time trusting people sometimes. ESPECIALLY when they have gotten on my bad side at some point in the past.

So I repeat myself. Can you blame me for not trusting him at all?

I wasn't egging Jord on. Mostly I was impressed by Mike Pences level of denial. Does no one else find that just impressive?

The story I posted was amusing, and it highlights an continual personal flaw in the man - His need to get personally involved in sheet when there is no need to. He didn't have to try and slander his father because Cruz didn't endorse him. It's petty, and below the standard of someone looking to take the office of president.

And I will maintain that if you are restricting abortion so heavily you need to push for better sex education and/or availability of contraception. Anything else is irresponsible. Whilst I personally don't give a funk about the moral implications of abortion and would be fine with anything up to the end of the first trimester being freely and widely available, I accept other people have different views on the morality. But the morality is still not an excuse to put teenagers and such in positions to suffer for decades because of one mistake.

I would blame that walking sheet pile Cruz and his social conservatives, not the man that fracked the GOP in half and took it in a new direction towards social progression and America First

We're no longer a shining city on a hill, and we need to fix that first

If you're gonna say Trump throws away opportunities or holds a grudge? Then yeh, I'll give you that. But blaming Trump for the platform is just plain silly

Literally nobody else agreed with Jord being mad at Trump because of the platform so IDK what you're saying here. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here. Phil and Aerion both gave reasons not related to that to dislike Trump, and I specifically said I know he disagrees with it. You said we were blindly following the DNC's narrative or whatever, but that's clearly not happening.

At least we can all agree that Pence is an ass.

'This. 10000% this.

And plus, I NEVER had the vibe that the others were egging me on. You're putting words in my mouth with that comment, Winter.

Didn't see Flames post when I replied the second time.

But I just wanted to push back and vocally condem the platform for being so regressive on LGBT.

The majority of Trump people aren't at all happy with this platform and we need to denounce it now rather than being complacent

Thank you for bringing up that Trump has disagree with the platform on multiple issues.

All I'm trying to get across is, that platform except the parts about closer ties with Russia and opposition to the TPP and NAFTA do NOT represent us

Yeah, wasn't happy about Pence. But he needed pence to win, so I'll overlook it

Ok, let's talk about that.

Agreed. He takes it too personally. Like threats to start a SuperPac to take down Cruz's re-election in 2018 (not that I would be opposed to that)

But I guess it plays the strongman view. "funk with me, I will end you"

As for abortion, sure, condoms aren't exactly expensive though. It's not even about morals, though aborting a 20 week old fetus like Kaine would want is sickening. It's about reaponsibilty. You can have safe sex and 99.99% time not get pregnant.

Rape is out of the woman's control. Birth Complications are out of a woman's control. The child misforming is out of the woman's control. Having sex without taking the pill or having the guy wear a condom IS within the woman's control. If you're not educated enough to realize you can get pregnant through sex, you shouldn't be having sex

Insinuating rumours about Cruz's father is not being a strongman. It's just being a petty vindictive dick. It's unbecoming of the office.

I am talking about teenagers. They are going to funk. They should be able to funk. They should be able to explore there sexuality, and just have fun when funking. If you don't educate people and make contraception readily available, they are going to funk it up. Because there are enough worries during your first sexual experiences that protection is one of the last things you think about, and mistakes are stupidly easy to make in that context.

Choosing to withhold proper teaching on contraception and how to have sex and explore your sexuality safely, you as much or more to blame than these kids, because how else are they going to learn about protection beyond whisper and rumour?

It's not an issue of 'Oh if you don't know you shouldn't have sex' - The sex is going to happen one way or another. Your job should be to prepare and minimise the consequences, not tell people 'Well don't do this fun activity that there is immense social pressure around because we thought it was immoral not to teach you about it'. Even with a funking condom the first time you have sex or sexual activity you are going to be nervous, or excited, or not think, and mistakes will happen.

I mean, parents would probably be the ones to teach their children that when there's no abortion and they can't just have their children get an abortion whenever they want, and ESPECIALLY parents that grow up in states where there are a lot of single moms.

Maybe in higher income households sure, but those generally aren't problem areas for high teenage birthrates.

Generally that's in areas of poverty or shitty education anyway when having a child and living off of the state seems like a sane idea, or when no one ever took the time or steps to teach about safe sex.

But there should still be a burden on the federal government, if not the the state to have a minimum required level of sexual education and make contraceptive means readily accessible. Because it's just a sane thing to given that teenagers are going to funk.

Especially since it's a financial burden on the state when you get very young single mums who have to survive off of welfare say, and it prevents local religion interfering too much.

How about the Govenment takes unwanted children and raises them.

It's what Stalin did to get a loyal KGB. Two birds with one stone. A loyal Govenment enforcement agency and a way to lessen the stress of single mother

They could.

I'm not sure why you want to imitate Stalin's Russia, but you could.

I would argue that creating the KGB in your nation is a little extreme considering you don't want a totalitaranism society, and that you'll get a lot of people who just despise the idea of an army entirely loyal to the government rather than the people for obvious reasons.

So it's f***ing insane, but it is indeed an option.

Because you... It was Stalin's Russia

Government of the people, by the people, for the people

The police force would be loyal to the government. Raised without the tinge or racial biases or such

And the government would be loyal to the people

Why would I want to replicate Stalinist Russia? Well it was a period of massive industrialization. And the US wants a law and order future atm.

A more reasonable idea, would probs be government support to pregnant teens, and a massive rehaul of the adoption system so that children don't just get dumped in orphanages, they also get out fairly easily

State Funded Orphanages: Now with 20% more abuse

Right, this is an issue I've been meaning to talk about. A LOT of people want to adopt, but can't cause of all the bureaucracy and cost involved w/ adopting in the USA

That needs to go so Orphanages aren't a dumpster site, but rather a revolving door

I think we have enough evidence as of late that the government is loyal to the government, not the people.

Which makes the idea of enforcers loyal only to the government kinda insane. It's fine in theory, but it's terrible in practice. It's easier to have an army of the people comprised of the people, it's less efficient but hey.

Look at Turkey - The Turkish army isn't loyal to the government, it's loyal to the idea of a secular Turkey, not to the government in general. That sort of idea could work, if you have a body loyal only to the idea of what the nation should be, not to specific parts of the nation. Hence why they have had 4 coups in 40 years. Essentially you are talking a body loyal to the constitution, not to the government.

But it's still insane to imitate Stalin's Russia unless you fancy surrendering democracy in the process. 'Security' should not triumph over liberty, because liberty is very hard to get back once surrendered willingly. You are talking a loss of privacy, of free speech, and basically everything you could think of under the sun.

The other solution is you teach safe sex and make the morning after pill and other contraception readily available.

Fair, is what I'd see as ideal

A police force loyal to the constitution (and therefore ideally both the people and government) wouldn't limit Free-speech or the kind

As for the safe-sex education. Sure, most already do so to a degree. But more can't hurt. The regulation on contraception should be more lax (but really though, a 12 pack of condoms is like 7 dollars. I assume you'd run out in a week if you're active)

That're really not that expensive.

Adoption is a lot bigger though. Like I said to mido, the place needs to stop being a dump for children, and rather a place where they enter and quickly get adopted. That might promote more mothers to give their children to adoption rather than try to raise them when they realistically cannot

...So you're saying that you want things to be the like the Soviet Union..... Kappa

EDIT- Also note the Kappa. And I don't mean the monster from Japanese mythology. Or the Lotad family. Or that show that was on Nickolodeon at one point. Or Nitori from Touhou.

In all seriousness, better Sex Ed programs isn't that hard....
