Crystal Beast Rulings

Svenny

Question

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but I'll try and hope for the best.

When a monster card is placed in the S/T Zone it loses all of the effects it had as a monster and possibly gain new ones if the card says so (as in the case of Union Monsters). Crystal Beasts have no such wording but simply says "place it face-up in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell Card", this results in the card losing all of its effects and it becomes a blank Continuous Spell Card (unless I've got my rulings wrong). My question regards the following card:

Ancient Crystal Beast Cuprite Tyranno

Fire / Level 8 / Dinosaur / Effect

This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Deck or Graveyard. You can Special Summon this card (from your hand or face-up from your Spell & Trap Card Zone) by sending 2 other "Crystal Beast" cards you control to the Graveyard. You can only use the following effects of "Ancient Crystal Beast Cuprite Tyranno" once per turn.
• Send 1 "Crystal Beast" card from your Spell & Trap Card Zone to the Graveyard: Destroy 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls.
• When this card destroys a monster by battle: You can place 1 "Crystal Beast" monster from your Deck face-up in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell Card.
• If this face-up card is destroyed while in a Monster Card Zone: You can target up to 2 "Crystal Beast" monsters, except "Ancient Crystal Beast Cuprite Tyranno", in your Graveyard; place them face-up in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as Continuous Spell cards.

ATK 2800 / DEF 1700

Will the highlighted part regarding summoning it from the S/T Zone disappear as it becomes a Spell Card and therefore be completely useless? If this is the case, is there any way to go around this problem?

Thanks in advance!

You can ask rulings questions here.

It should work, although there are no specific precedents. It is very similar to the case of Union monsters though, and if Union monsters function as they do, is there a reason why you think this card wouldn't also? Union monsters Special Summon themselves from the Spell & Trap Zone as well, without explicitly saying they gain any new effects.

It is an effect that Special Summons the card from the Spell & Trap Zone, so it can be assumed that it can be used while the card is in the Spell & Trap Zone. (Just as Union monsters work because they say they can be Special Summoned while they are an Equip Card.) Cards in the Spell & Trap Zones have no monster effects, but since the effect in question implies it can be used while the card is in the Spell & Trap Zone, it is implicitly a Spell (or Trap) effect in the case that it is used while the card is in the Spell & Trap Zone.
