[Serious] A New Card Game

Snatch Steal

Recommended Posts

This idea is baseless and I'm not certain where I'm going with it.

[spoiler=Long]

So as it stands, I'm not happy with childrens' card games. I've come to terms with Yugioh being essentially cancer in its purest form, and I can't get into Magic because the lore isn't my type. Vanguard is luck based and has little actual metagame and deck creativity, while Pokémon fucks you over if you get paired up against a deck you're weak to and its playerbase is full of man-children more so than any other game I've played (except warhammer maybe). I love Adventure Time Card Wars because it's very finely engineered to be either fast-paced or casual, but nobody plays it, and there's no singles program, so it's expensive and pointless.

I'm not playing Buddyfight or Force of Will.

With all that said, I'm not ready to give up. My access to video games is extremely limited, and running is the art of suffering, so TCG is the only outlet I really have for a hobby, and even if it weren't, I'd still want to find a good one to play.

This topic is an announcement that I am making plans to design a card game and that I know it would be impossible to do alone. My ideas are fleshing out somewhat, but coming up with rules is difficult, and my talent in art is 5/10 at best.

One of my goals with this project is to analyze "card theory," otherwise what makes a card game good (no, this is not an actual thing, and I am making it up right now). I'd assume that using art from art websites would be fine, since I have no plans to make a game that's a big deal outside of YCM and school.

TL;DR: I don't like any existing card games except for one that nobody plays, so I want to make my own, and I'm not sure where to go from here. I have ideas but they're not yet concrete, and that's where everyone else comes in.

Basically an interest check to see who wants a new card game or who wants to help me create it.

Posting while on the top of my head so that I don't lose it :B

I'm down with the clown

Someone paid attention to me :OOOOO

I was just about to PM you but this is good this is fine

So woo there's one remote interest which means time for idea rants

[spoiler=Blog Battles]

An incorporation of Munchkin and Tumblr into Fire Emblem (probably, that is; I don't know about the engine yet because FE Card Game is tough), Blog Battles features satirical caricatures of traditional card games, existentialism, internet trolling, feminism, bodybuilding, aesthetics, and MLG.

Basically, MTG, but with a different ruleset and lore. Instead of Planeswalkers, Bloggers™ make Posts™ (Original + appealing meme) and fight off opposing Posts™ to rout the enemy.

[spoiler=Progenarchy]

I'm clueless with this one.

Throughout time, rulers of varying ideologies and power have risen and fallen. Whether Monarch, Dictator, or Despot, these rulers are called Progenarchs: The proponents of tommorow's leadership.

Otherwise known as Renaissance Aesthetic: The Gathering. Came up with it extremely recently, and ive barely gotten into it

[spoiler=Grim]

This is an older one.

Ummm something something creatures imbued with essences, edgy emo postmodernist Pokémon. Intended to be similar to PTCG without blatant similarity. Was originally supposed to be a forum game, and the C&O thread is still on the first page if you want to check it out.

Will go into more detail if asked

Progenarchy seems like it could be fun. As much as I like the others, this one seems more unique

Yeah, I was inspired to make it because of learning about the renaissance in history. Also vaporwave.

Enlghtenment + French Rev are also good subjects for it. Pretty much any art rev ever would suffice.

One of my goals with it is to make it half ACTION FIGHT SHONEN DESU!!! And half alternate-win condition, because I think some people would appreciate not having to win with fighting every time (and I think that's not always how it plays out in the real world).

I also want it to be very interactive because of this. Stun cards should probably be limited in number, as should hyper offense.

I'd like all games to go far longer than 15 minutes, basically, and for the player to never feel like they can't do anything about the opponent's cards. Alt win conditions are usually tough.

So kinda like Civ: the card game. Honestly that sounds very entertaining.

While I disagree that Yugioh is cancerous, I like the general idea of where this is going. I'd be down to try and help/offer-opinions/get-in-your-way.

And yeah I like Progs the most out of those options. How much magic/high-fantasy would be allowed in, for interest? Would it be based off historical rulers? Would they have roughly similar "levels" of tech, or could we be pitting some advanced alien monarch (lasers, space travel) against the person who conquered all the local fishing villages with bows & arrows? These questions can be either something for you to answer authoritatively (since it's your game), or they can just be thought prompts if you don't have an answer right away.

The game Yugioh isn't cancer, the meta and lists are. Also, it's only my personal opinion, and I'm just salty because I don't like losing money.

The rulers are fictional but the flavor is intended to be Art Revs/Enlightenment (Renaissance, American/French Revolution period, probably something modern). I did wonder how modern times could be fairly pitted against colonial weaponry, so one route is the non-science one.

The high-fantasy aspect would probably be existent, but not particularly rampant. Essentially, everything should be humanly recognizeable.

>Card Wars has no online systemWhile it's not free, nor is it like DN or anything-Tabletop Simulator has Card Wars cards in it. Srsly, someone actually made them for Tabletop Sim.

No vidya games except PS, remember?

I'm overcoming an addiction.

Will PM those more interested :B

This seems very misguided so it just seems like you've had bad experiences, so if you actually need help with relearning it you should shoot me up a PM and I'll try to teach you in a way that'll help you understand better.

None of the ideas you presented seem particularly original though, iirc a lot of them are actually already existing online card games as it is.

I play several online CG on a regular-ish basis, all of them with flaws:

Infinity Wars: Neflectful Devs, low userbase.

MtG: Too slow, not enough craziness (maybe that's just because i played YGO first). Then again, that's also a reason why I DO like it, but no need to go on about that.

Yu-Gi-Oh: Power creep to the max.

Duelyst: While it is a CCG, I'm still getting used to the way the actual game is played, which is very unique.

I'm keen for a new card game, sure, because I love the strategy involved with deck-building and playing, and am always hoping for a better one.

Grim: Don't like PTCG much, so doesn't really appeal to me. I dunno, I just never got the hang of it. also a little too edgy for my tastes

Progenarchy: Sounds fun, especially if it takes off from MtG. While I don't care too much about lore in these sorts of games, I do like a ton of fantasy at work. I have a couple of card games IRL that are just set in various time periods, and while I still find them fun, I enjoy a lot of fantasy a lot more. Would you have just one ruler which would discern the type of your deck (or whatever you call it), or build it with several...commanders? Also, an idea for going with the science era as well as keeping it fair is giving each different era a certain value, with eras with more technology having higher values. The difference between these values could determine some sort of advantage to give to the lower valued player. Idk, I like complicated stuff.

Blog Battles: Sounds rather interesting, but I prefer action-y serious games (generally. I loved Stanley Parable) rather than stuff like Card against Humanity. I might play it, but I would much rather support the above game.

So yeah, I am interested in Progenarchy. Happy to try and come with some ideas myself. Egotistical had a card game idea I helped with that never went anywhere, maybe you could talk to them about it.
