YES !! They buffed it the way it needed to be buffed and the fact they actually print the series in RATE means we propably get the rest of the hunting dog series and if they are generic enough (and buffed enough (just like this card)) A.G.s finally have an actual strategy (and no catapult or town into a beatstick (which makes you cry if you draw it) and starting to cry if it gets removed is no actual strategy).

At the very least this card makes Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem playable, considering with this and wyvern one are fitting cards for the 2 A.G. materials.

I've been having a decent enough experience with Ancient Gears as an Xyz-oriented deck, backed up by Reactor Dragon beats, because I don't like tunnel-vision into Fusion "bosses".

That said, I have no problem with this being released, but it's the Fusions I'm worried about in terms of playability.

Also, for the record, Catapult + Geartown is an actual strategy; it's just not a very reliable one.

It would not be tunnel vision, however the deck would be able to summon one or two in a reliable way (assuming they are buffed and have somewhat generic materials).

As for them being an xyz oriented deck ... as far as rank 4s go they are very inferior, as for rank 8s ... they might actually be cool to drop cipher dragon, though drawing into the pieces hurts quite much.

Well I should have stated I rate plans/strategies by their power + reliability (while the second one is more important).

Geartown + Catapult might be a good play, however it is not enough to make up for an entire strategy.

I do in fact use Rank 4s, because I combine them with Gadgets (their sister archetype).  Of course on their own, Ancient Gears are very poor at Rank 4 spam.

In any event, if there's one thing that I've seen with Fusion decks, it's that they need ways to maintain solid advantage; both Shaddolls and Metalfoes (and to a lesser extent, Fluffals) have demonstrated that Fusion decks need monsters that help you stay afloat as you're Fusion Summoning. If Hound is the only Main Deck monster Ancient Gears will get in the way of a Fusion strategy, it might not be enough, unless the Fusions and/or Fusion Spells and Traps themselves are crazy good.

Re: Ancient Gears If you play them with Gigant and Gadgets they are actually quite good at it--and in fact they're not mutually exclusive with big Fusion bosses because Ancient Gear Box actually makes that possible.

It might be a different tunnel vision on my part but I've viewed every card that didn't support that strategy in some sense (including Gear Catapult and Reactor Dragon) as very subpar.

Speaking of Box, Hound not being searchable by it is pretty depressing.

For now, at a guess, the need for a Normal Summon makes it more or less worse than King of the Swamp, despite other Machine support (esp since it isn't compatible with G/S Gadgets anyways).

Depending on what else it gets it might improve but I'd prefer a Normal on a Gadget or Wyvern 90% of the time, and if you can't Normal Summon those you probably won't have a reliable play with this card anyways because you haven't done any searching yet.
