Hi Everyone

Hi ^.^

I used to play yugioh with my friends a lot when I was little, and we had fun coming up with some custom cards too. I've had a several years long hiatus from it since, but I recently got back into it.

Last time I really played yugioh, synchros were the shiniest new thing, so... yeah. I really like the xyz mechanic and how the materials are attached and involved in the card's effects. It's pretty neat how they can be effect "ammo" sometimes and having less or more materials can change the effect. Pendulums are cool too, but they seem pretty OP unless you're prepared for them.

The first time I played on ygopro, I faced a Qliphort Deck. -_- I didn't even know what pendulums were at the time.

Music, video games, programming and drawing are some of the other things I like.

Howdy, Octosquidport! (^_^)/

I'm Yui, and you probably won't see much of me since I generally don't stick my head out of the RP section unless it's to goof around in misc or greet new members. You're the second one we've gotten in like two days, which is impressive.

You should probably read the rules of the site if you haven't done so already. It's generally just common sense stuff and the Advanced Clause. Any questions you've got about things can be directed to a moderator (you can identify them by their bolded names or the little Moderator banner under their avatar) or another member. So yeah, read them rules, don't make an ass of yourself, and most importantly, enjoy your time here :)

You're here forever @_@

Welcome to YCM, Octosquidport.

As Yui mentioned, make sure you take a look at the general site rules (and any specific section stuff). As you've expressed interest in Custom Cards, please note that we do have two main areas; Casual and Advanced (latter deals with the current metagame or otherwise higher design, former is more experimental and on general card usage).

Also, please do not get into any flame wars with other members. Occasionally they will flare up in certain areas, but do avoid them.

----

But yeah, ask a staff member if you need help with stuff.

Anything related to Custom Cards, see me.

Welcome to YCM and welcome back to playing Yugioh again.

Getting more game experience is helpful - the pace at which power creep happens can be daunting to those who have not been keeping up. It'll also help you know how strong or weak you can make your cards without it failing to impress or being overpowered.

About the rules, please note that some amendments are in the works and minor changes could happen in the near future.

I look forward to seeing what cards you make.

The reason you likely take issue with Pendulums is because the mechanic is different than anything you've seen before, making it hard to counter. In reality, Pendulums are not overpowered.

For starters, Pendulum often requires a lot of resources. You not only need the two Pendulum Monsters of different open scales, but you also need several monsters to Pendulum Summon, which doesn't always come easy. Most Pendulum Decks have an excess of monsters because they need to Pendulum Summon incredibly quickly in order to survive.

Secondly, most Pendulum Decks that are popular are only popular because their cards are objectively powerful. If the only Pendulum Monsters were Normal Pendulums and Timegazer/Stargazer, no one would use them. The reason Performapals, Magicians, Dracoslayers, and Qliphort are so popular is because they're the best Pendulum Decks.

On another note, all recent and good Pendulum Decks got hit very hard. Wavering Eyes is gone, Scout and Saqlifice got nailed, Plushfire/Damajuggler/Luster got hit, and even Wisdom Eye is at one.

Thirdly, Pendulums rely on one summon. A Bottomless Trap Hole or Needle Ceiling can clear their board of all threats, and since they need to play a lot of consistency and monsters, they likely will have minimal removal cards outside of those monsters.

In short, a couple broken Decks ≠ broken mechanic. By the reasoning that a few Pendulum Decks make all Pendulums overpowered, then Nekroz make Ritual overpowered, which it obviously isn't.

Hi, I'm bad at making friends, if you haven't noticed. If you want any cards reviewed, I also have no life outside of this forum, so don't be afraid to hit me up.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I'll do my best to stay out of trouble.

Also, thanks for giving me some more info on pendulums, Snatch Steal. I don't take issue with them at all, I just got the impression that it was a powerful mechanic mainly because I got pwned by them during my first encounter. It's definitely something new for me, but I like it.

Fair warning, I'm not very good at yugioh. I usually just play for fun. I like learning about the meta though.

There's nothing wrong with playing Yugioh for fun, but a fair warning if you go into the TCG section, a lot of the discussion there does revolve around how the card(s)/Deck functions in the competitive world. For your sake, best to just browse for now.

You should probably learn a little about the current metagame though (right now, I believe it's mostly Kozmos, Monarchs, Blue-Eyes and some other stuff [for TCG]). Don't have to know everything about it, but just be mindful about what is recent.

But other than that, you should be fine. If you opt to make your own cards, start off in Casual.
