Phones

Recommended Posts

Most of you have them, if not all, and many are probably using them to look at this.

Phones have gotten very advanced lately, and seem to be very important to most people.

So what do you think of this? Is it positive or negative how phones have become so important and wide-spread?
What do you usually use yours for?

And whatever other thoughts you have about phones.

Phones are amazing. Like, I use them all the time. At school primarily, especially in classes. In fact, I have gotten so good with discreetly using my phone, I can type messages under my desk without looking. My current iPhone 5c is getting kinda old, so I'm due for an upgrade soon. I would so be lost without it. Like, how else would I do my homework at break and lunch? Its also how I make plans with my friends, cuz like, how else would I these days? Oh and I use it when I am at places with no internet because bless 4g.

I literally only have my phone because people said I have to and because it can access the internet. Ive never called anyone and the only people who I text are my family members when I need to get sheet done. Its pretty useless for me save for a few functions.

I recently upgraded my phone to an Android V10. http://www.androidcentral.com/lg-v10-specs

And I have this plan that anything labeled as a streaming service gets no data usage. On top of 10gb of regular data usage. So lately I've been using it to not just read (I don't post on sites from it unless someone texts me something urgent, which hasnt happened in a good year), but for Netflix as well. For me, Phones are about communication and reading mostly. I only use it to listen to music at my grandma's house and the only games I put on it is like World Series of Poker or any Artix Entertainment game. I do text a couple people with insane regularity though.

.. all of that and I still cap out at MAYBE 200mb/10gb data use a month. Which is more or less 2% of my data a month. But hey, options right?

i have an older flip phone, i use it for nothing but calls and texts. i sometimes think about upgrading, but i have no real need to, my current phone does what i need it to, and it's cheaper overall than more advanced phones.

Phone have pros and cons, just like other electronic devices.....

The positive aspects are it makes people easier to communicate between each other and can be very crucial in some situations, like sending an S.O.S and such, that is the main function of the phone, other than that, improvement on phone lets it browse the internet freely, useful for gaining information and answering the tough question on your paperwork, it is like a library in your fingertips

Phones also provides entertainment to quench your free time, like games, movies, and even comics......

But when there's a good side, there's a bad side.....

Many people tend to use the ever-advancing mobile phone everywhere and at a very high frequency, sometimes they are too concentrated on it and forgot their responsibilities as well as schoolwork, making the grades fall down....

Phones also affects on social life, it makes people make less face-to-face contact, and can widen the gaps between families and close ones......

Wasting too much time on your phone will cause headache, eye strain, and stress.....

But, to summarize, Phones are a solid advancement in communication technology, regardless of what, and do your best to tame it....

I have a NOKIA phone, the classic one, not the flip one or touchscreen, and use it very rarely only to send message and communicate

I've had my phone since January 2011 (it's a Samsung, but forgot what type; I know it's a slide-up one). Come to think of it, I probably made a note about that in statuses when I finally got my cellphone. Still haven't replaced it yet, despite it having issues at times.

But really, I only use it for calling parents, certain people and checking my gift card balances; that, and calculator for having to calculate purchases if buying stuff. I don't have net enabled on it, so pretty much basic stuff. I don't text people though.

----

On another note, we get a lot of people talking/texting on their phones while crossing the street or even crosswalks at the shopping mall, so in a way, that's a bad thing. Then again, texting while driving has become widespread that multiple ads are out there to discourage the act. Or yeah, some people constantly on it during classes or social areas.

I used my phone in the open through classes in high school and no one gave a funk :>

I almost never use it for what it's meant to be used for.

Maybe that'll change in uni... hopefully it'll change... it better change ;_;

^ That reminds me to actually say something.

I've never owned a phone. And honestly I usually don't need one so it's fine by me. Sometimes I feel I should get one because of how much things tend to be leaning towards supporting them and advancing them but I'm just not sure it's worth it for me.

There's an article about a guy who went a year without phones, or really tech for that matter, for a year. If I can find the article I'll post it here; but basically he noticed that... it's not as relinquishing as you think. If it wasn't phones, it was newspapers or books that were being used as a sort of means to distract one's self and keep others from addressing you in public spaces. Phones aren't new in the societal aspect of people wanting to close themselves off in public spaces; it's just another means to do it. Phones aren't really widening any gaps between people; and people will still find time for direct interaction whenever they need it or want it.

For me personally, my job requires me to have a phone; as I am driving a truck and I need it both for emergency purposes and for contacting my boss or clients when need be. Beyond that, I do not use my phone in work settings, extremely rarely at meal times, and hardly ever when eating out with others. If I'm with people, I only really bring it out to look at it when there's a natural lull in conversation; as it tends to happen. I find no fault in any of these practices, and I enjoy having my phone.

THAT SAID, people that poo-poo others for using their phones or the whole "Phone-Shame" people who act high-and-mighty for not having one (not saying anyone in particular here; but I do know people not-from-here that do this to an incredibly obnoxious degree) can just G-T-F-O!!

Okay so...

I was actually ridiculed a bit for having the mentality a lot of you do. By family and strangers no less. The idea of having a phone seemed impractical to me. I never went places that weren't littered with cameras. I always followed a strict route through places. I was as safe as humanly can be and continue to be. But once I got a phone and later one with a proper internet connection, a lot of my anxiety of going places went with it. Suddenly I had the world at my fingertips without the worry of the scrutiny of those around me.

So getting a phone for me let me get out of my shell in no small way when it came to being more outgoing. Seriously considering getting one of those portable usb charge packs so I can stay out longer too. The homeless use it a lot and the advantages does not escape me.

Yea, you might not have a practical reason to get one. And its benefits may not be the same for you as I. But rewards come in many shapes and sizes. So stop and consider that it might just make your life that much brighter.

(Also more than a little surprised that I probably have the "strongest" phone here).

Currently have an iPhone 4s and am fine with it. Don't use it that much for actual phone use more using it for Internet and games at home. Might get a newer one which doesn't die as quickly near the end of the year though.

Though I've never really used a phone for calling and texting that much anyway. Only really used it to organize lifts places, that and I and I prefer face to face if it is an option so outside of one or two people I have never really had a need for a good phone.

Nobody uses phones for actual calls anymore. You just watch YouTube/check your emails/text eachother/etc

So of course it lets you be more free.
