Man beaten with bricks for children's trading cards

The things people do to get their hands on trading cards...seriously. Thankfully, he's okay and didn't lose his life over them.

Given he went to tournaments, we can assume that he had a couple metagame deck or otherwise cards that we'd probably kill to get (well, this is probably the case if it's worth $10K). Looking at his remaining binder, he still has Sylvans left (but I need to double check the value of them right now).

Hopefully he can get his other cards back, but chances are that they're gone forever (as in the guys who attacked him selling them for money and other things, or yeah taking them for their own Decks). I know some guys used to rip up cards they stole in school, and toss them around the place.

That, and the attackers face criminal prosecution when found.

This is probably a note for me to actually keep tabs on MY collection (I have a few good cards here and there, but a lot of them are generally pack filler or really old).

Wasn't wise of him to bring that big of card collection to a public place where people that are obsessed with the card game are , you're just asking for something to happen to em, although the weapon of choice was a little unusual, at least he wasn't stabbed or something

This is why my personal collection of cards remain at home, no matter what. Not that i go to locals or have a reason to actually bring them with me.

This does remind me of when I heard about someone being robbed at gunpoint for their cards+YouTuber SimplyUnlucky getting his entire collection stolen in a break in.

Looking at the binder, this is what I can tell he has left.

2 Compulse and a Skill Prisoner.

Also Advanced Ritual Art (I think)

The Mist Valley Field Spell

Obviously Sylvan Bladefender, Peaskeeper, Charity

Queen Angel of Roses

That version of Storm4th that targets and prevents Battle Phase

Soul Release

Something that looks like a Fire Formation

Something that looks like a Raidraptor RUM

The newest member of quick-play "Forbidden" series

Burial from a Different Dimension

141

Scapegoat

That's all I can tell.

Edit: oh and also

That s*** freaks me out. How much of a monster do you have to be to beat a man and steal his prized childhood possessions for their f***ing monetary value?

A Level 8 or higher monster.

reminds me of the time when people got stabbed for mechanicalchaser or 7-colored fish.

around 2010-11-ish, some guy got run over for his dualities when they were $300

this is why i hate monarchs. too many brick hands

but really, people need to learn what integrity entails. it's a childrens card game, if you're willing to go to jail over this, then you need to rethink your life from the ground up..

I mean, it's money if you know where to sell this stuff.

And this guy's collection was a LOT of money. Maybe not, like, bank robbery levels of money, but it's still a lot. While I agree the crime is dumb, it's more than just a children's card game with the amount of money you can make off of a crime like this.

I feel bad for the dude though. I had a deck of Inzektor/some mixed Agent stuff stolen when they were still good, so while it wasn't worth nearly as much, it really does suck to lose these things. Chances are he won't get his collection back, and I know that feeling.

These days, people will try to cause harm to others for everything they need, including cards and other stuffs that are not essentially needed to survive in the world, either by killing or stealing.....

Do not try to show off, especially in public since there's a high risk that many others will get jealous and rampage over it, but the most important thing is , do not harm others for your needs.....

If the police found these criminals, make sure they get the same consequences, losing all of their cards and hopes, and a sentence in prison for twenty years.....

20 years for stealing YGO cards would probably be too harsh. Since the person was beaten, it will definitely result in more time, though.

$3,000 to build a $10,000 collection?

So either money laundering or he's psychic.

I doubt many people will care about the cards (except for the fact that they are really that expensive), but yeah, he got stitches from it.

...this is just me being cynical, but I wonder if there would be more of an uproar if it were something more practical?

I might stop bringing trades to locals now, or at least for a while @_@

I know it's worth money, but what i mean is, you really want this on your record when you go to jail? there's crimes that you just don't want to get caught doing (i mean crime in general, but some more than others), and beating somebody severely with bricks over a card game is one of them.  prison is going to be hell for these guys.

Probably would be. It doesn't have to be theft either. If someone was just walking home from work and got ganged up and beaten upon, and if there was video of it, I'd imagine an big uproar would happen.

If I can make a few thousand by throwing a brick, I'm going to make a few thousand.

Hell, replace the card collection with a few thousand worth of computer parts. It's the same crime either way so long as you know where to sell the stuff.

And Magic/Yugioh/Vanguard/etc Players don't have the kind of security a computer store has.

i know, i get that much, it's hard to explain, but going to jail over computer parts is more "criminally acceptable" than beating up a guy for cards. both are thing's you'd regret going to jail over, but the card thief is going to be the larger target in jail. essentially, unless they've got anal targeting immunity, they're going to be the biggest prison bastards in the entire facility aside from convicted child molesters and rapists.

It's kinda up to the individual in prison. The only people who tend to get attacked and ganged up on in prison are...(Not counting racism stuff and the like)

Those who are weak and alone

And those who did stuff to kids.

Everyone else is on the same playing field of "What you do/who you talk to/how capable you are".

....This is a weird discussion XD
