Dova
Yes, I know this has been banded around for a while, but I think we should have a thread to at least discuss how it would be implemented. Here are some of my suggestions:Have a public voting system:Every (length of time), we have a collection of all the cards made in a particular section in that length of time, post it in a new thread, and have a poll for users to vote, possibly with a reason, and each winner going to a Hall of Fame. Advantages of this include having the community decide, and not requiring mods or whatever to judge. Disadvantages include votes which are done by trolls, the fact that collecting the threads may take effort (unless there is a way to do it in the forum easily), and the fact that that period of time may have a bunch of good custom cards (some good ones get overshadowed) or a bunch of bad custom cards (a bad one gets undeserved limelight).Having a private voting system:A bunch of trusted users/good judges choose the custom cards from the collection instead of everyone, and from that onward it is the same as above. Advantages include having good votes, but the disadvantages are the same as before when it comes to collecting the threads and the best of many good or bad customs.Relating it only to Competitions:Winning cards of a regular competition(s) (e.g. CC Monthly) are put up into a Hall of Fame. Simple as that. Advantages are disguising judging for that hall as judging for a competition, having a trusted user(s) doing it, and having good choices to choose from, as opposed to just a period in time. Disadvantages are how few there would be, and how long it would be until the next competition, but those can be changed and are just objective.Thoughts? Suggestions? Blake
Not doing it. Genuinely. It's been done and done, and it's never worked out. Especially nowadays, it's rare to truly find quality, much less have it not become buried. The populace voting on it means nothing because the populace doesn't have any standard of good design vs. bad. Not even the judges.
vla1ne
the concept is good, the execution on the other hand... might be difficult. have to say though, even if the populace isn't all to good at judging, that's no reason to to prevent a hall of fame. Darj
Option #2 is the best alternative IMO, but the problem is that, from what I have seen through the years, there aren't many judges or otherwise experienced players in YCM willing to take on the responsibility to manage a Hall of Fame for a relatively long period of time. I mean, you could ask right now and maybe you would indeed get 3~5 experienced users interested to kickstart the Hall, but they may lose interest eventually and then then whole thing will fall apart. And this is the option I see best and the problem with it. The purpose is noble, but the people we put on the supposed Hall of Fame committee would need to stay on for about a year or two. TBH, I'd recommend doing additions to the Hall of Fame every 6-12 months, but even then that has problems.
