Luck

Snatch Steal

Recommended Posts

It's a very vague concept, and can be interpreted in many different ways.

As card gamers, luck can potentially play a huge factor in a game's outcome, be it video games, card games, even sports. I think what we consider "Strategy" is actually quite luck-based.

What do you consider luck? What effects do you think it has on gaming, or perhaps even life?

Luck influences card games like getting struck by lightning. You can take precaution against it, but it could happen any time regardless of that. In card games, it is common that people try to make their deck more consistent and balanced. This is actually the force to try and mitigate luck as much as possible, and gain as much control over it as can be. In Magic, it is about balance and numbers, trying to put yourself in the best position to have a consistent draw and a good draw. Even in formats that have more longevity, matchups are extremely lucky paired against a good one or a bad one. You try to have has much control over what is expected. You can't control what you don't expect, but you can prepare for it as much as possible.

In life, it is the same way. Learn what you can control, and have some action against what could happen. But never fault yourself for not expecting anything to come, and that is just the luck of the draw whether it is good or bad. I could write more, but I don't want to.

The luck stat tends to either do nothing or everything.

Luck stems from factors outside our control or knowledge. You can't eliminate luck, only minimize it. To fully eliminate luck creates a solved game, because then the guaranteed best plays can be mathematically calculated and predicted without failure. Either that, or it involves cheating by manipulating what normally should be uncontrollable.

That said, some games, such as Go, are so overwhelmingly complex that, though logically possible to "solve" have not been so yet, and probably won't for a very long time.

Luck is a game of chance, which applies in every aspect of human life, whether it is employment, games, lotteries, all rely on luck....

Luck is interesting since it affects game play and other stuff, making it possible for a less experienced player to defeat a veteran, when coped up with skill and effort

Skill isn't enough, since the strategy depends on the cards you've drawn on your first turn, which is luck....

Still, I sometimes find it disturbing that a person with great luck who done almost no effort got what he wished, while another person who does everything and out all their effort failed to do so........

Time to find a four-leaf clover somewhere.....
