Card Contest Rules [Read before Post]

Recommended Posts

Most of you guys know this already, but for those of you who don't, this is for you. These are the rules of the card contest section.

1. Each member can only have ONE contest up at one time. If there are more than one, the older one will be closed until the newer one is complete and the creator of the contest has PM'd me about opening it.

e.g.: Magmar makes contest "Pyro monster contest"

Two days later, Magmar makes contest "Aqua monster contest"

bhim closes "Pyro monster contest"

"Aqua monster contest" ends

Magmar PMs bhim: "Can you please open 'Pyro monster contest?'"

bhim opens "Pyro monster contest"

2. Make the rules of your contest clear [this means you too Developus] so that everyone understands.

3. There must be a prize for your contest. Too many of us are too greedy to work for free. Prizes can be in the form of points or reps.

3a. You can donate points by going to a player's profile, and by their point count, will be a link saying "[Donate.]" Click here, and you can donate the points. Alternatively, in a player's post, you can simply click the number of points they have and donate from there.

3b. You can donate reps by going to a player's reputation, and clicking "Rate User"

3c. If you are new to the site and don't have many points, offer reps as prize for your contest. A lot of contests offer prizes like so:

1st Place - 3 reps

2nd Place - 2 reps

3rd Place - 1 rep

When you give a rep for a contest, give a positive one, not neutral or negative. Don't be mean.

4. Something that would help me and others would be, when you finish your contest, edit the name to include [done/closed/anything else] in the contest name.

e.g. "Pyro monster contest" ends.

Magmar changes title to: "Pyro monster contest [done]"

This would help me to know which threads to send to the completed section, as well as keep those users who don't read the posts and just post their cards anyways from spending their time making the cards, and then posting them, only to find out that they're too late.

5. "Entry Reserved" This means that you will post an entry. If you're holding a contest and you have reserved entries, don't end the contest. PM the user and give them a time frame to enter their cards, and if they fail to do so, end the contest.

e.g. JimmyNeutron posts in "Pyro monster contest" "entry reserved"

Magmar decides to end the contest

JimmyNeutron hasn't posted entry yet

Magmar PMs JimmyNeutron: "You have two hours to enter "Pyro monster contest" or it will end.

JimmyNeutron doesn't post entry

Magmar ends contest

Magmar changes name to "Pyro monster contest [done]"

5a. Don't attempt to disallow users to reserve an entry. I'll do it anyways. Most users will anyways.

6. I think Weather Duelist made it perfectly clear what rule 6 is.

There should also be a rule of "No pointless contests." Have you noticed how many contest are the same?

"Hey all' date=' here's the contest. Make some cards, and if I like it, you win."

the worst was a one liner:

"Make cards for me. 1rep to winner."

If you make a contest, have a reason for it. Create a so-and-so type monster. Create a card to go with this. Create a set having to do with this. Something to make the contest actually have meaning. It will get more poepl competing.

Me personally, I will almost never enter in a contest with no special rules or purpose. [/quote']

7. Stop with all the stupid polls of: "Do you like my contest?" and then crying about it when we vote no. We vote no because we HATE POLLS. So stop.

8. This one's very important. And I mean VERY IMPORTANT. A lot of users post the following: "Must have perfect spelling and grammer." Is there a problem with that sentence? I think so. Grammer. It's spelled GRAMMAR. With an "A," not an "E." Don't tell others to have perfect spelling and grammar until you have it yourself. Or at least have enough that you can spell that sentence correctly. Make yourself look legit. Those from Australia and Britain are exempt, although more than 80% of you guys aren't...

9. Not really a rule, just a little pet-peeve of mine... "No entries reserved." I'm gonna reserve an entry anyway. I don't have the time to make my cards right now. I need to reserve an entry so that you don't close down on me too quickly, and so that I know to come back to this thread. So I really don't care what you say, I'm reserving an entry.

10. NO CONTEST CAN GIVE OUT MORE THAN 6 REPS TOTAL OTHER THAN THOSE THAT ARE ALREADY RUNNING [7/6/7]

11. "Staple" rules. These are the rules that great contests will have.

A. Perfect grammAr and spelling.

B. Balance [No over-underpowering]

C. Make the art fit the card

D. Any others I forgot? Post here and I'll update!

Here's a great example of someone who knows how to write rules: Seth. I loved his explanations on the rules so much that I gave him a rep. This is it:

Judging

They will be judged on the following things:

1.Effect- Do they have one? If so does it go well with the monster?

2.Fusion Material- Is it a fusion? If so please post the material too.

3.Ritual- Is it a Ritual Monster? If so please post the Ritual Spell Card as well.

4.Over/Under Power- Please don't it isn't fun if you make a level 4 monster with 3000 ATK points.

5.Grammar/Spelling/Punctuation- It must be 100% correct or it WILL NOT win.

6. Artwork- This is one of my most important things. It must look like the title of the card' date=' it must be extremely detailed, and it must have a background, please no white behind the monster. Artwork is 50% of my judging.

[/quote']

12. You MUST have an end date or a required amount of entrants before you close the competition.

13. You CANNOT only allot for a certain number of entrants [i.e. "Only five people can enter]. You're holding a competition. This means YOU'RE grading everything. It's your problem your contest is so popular that twenty people enter with twenty cards each. The best advice I can give for this is don't make contests with a bunch of cards for an entry.

14. The following users may not post a contest thread because of a special reason [not because they have one running. Those people can't either though...]:

If there is anything else, post here and I'll add it.
